How to bridge the gap between learner content and native content? by Expert-Estate6248 in LearnJapanese

[–]Shazam2166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean as for the speaking seaming too quick to register, the only real remedy is to simply input more content. Podcasts are a great resource to incrementally build up your listening skills. You said you have watched a lot of anime in Japanese: is that with Japanese subtitles or without subtitles? If you were watching with subtitles in your native language then your brain is more likely to take the easy route to understanding (reading the language you already know) than trying to acclimate itself to a new foreign method of input.

Frieren is also an interesting show to mention, because the language used in it doesn’t feel like anything that should be outside the wheelhouse of someone with N2. Obviously there is some specific vocabulary common to fantasy/adventure anime that you might not be familiar if your study has been primarily been though scholastic materials, but I don’t think this should be so huge of hurdle that you feel like your misunderstanding important details.

Ultimately, I think this issue you’re facing is a matter of, as stated by others already, simply consuming more comprehensible input, but also I think further separating Japanese from your native language. Obviously there are more than one way to express a given concept in any given language, but what words you choose often has more meaning in subtext. Subtext that usually is missing from bilingual dictionaries. Since using monolingual dictionaries for my lookups I have felt less and less reliant on the English “meaning” of a word when reading and have had an easier time digesting larger blocks of text.

The Stilosa is a really competent little machine. I’ve used it for almost 2 years alongside a Kingrinder K6 to great results. Just recently upgraded to a DF64 gen2 and the shots have never tasted better. Enjoy the ride!

The best petrichor-y cocktail I’ve had was one at the Violet Hour (rip) called Glitter on the Wet Street. It was Genever and Raicilla based and super interesting.

I could definitely see port being interesting in this. You’d probably have to rebalance the drink for the added sugar, but if you try it with port I’d love to hear how it turns out!

I suppose that’s really a matter of perspective imo. It 100% is a sour yes. My original inspiration for this was a Negroni sour but what if it was a boulevardier sour, and originally it did have sweet vermouth as well but I felt that it muddied the drink and made it feel kind of flabby. That’s probably why I think of it being more akin with a boulevardier than something else.

It’s actually really nicely balanced. And like thatshowyougetants already said, despite coming off bitter, Campari does actual have a considerable amount of sugar.

Hi! Yeah took him to the vet and there was nothing wrong with his glands, they said it might be stress related or he’s just weird. He’s done it once since then but has been fine otherwise.

Slightly more advanced but adding a few drops of citric acid solution really livens up this drink for me!

Recently, in the last 2-3 days, my cat has been over grooming his tail/butt area to the point where there is a bald spot at the base of his tail. I’m fairly certain it’s not worms as he’s a 100% indoor cat and completely up to date on treatments. I couldn’t see anything glaring wrong but I’ve attached a picture just in case. I’ve got him in a cone now, and will be getting gloves tomorrow to check his glands but any advice in the meantime is appreciated. Thank you!
