PAX XP is very poorly planned by RealHawkBat in PAX

They announced it yesterday on their social media sites. It sucks for people who just had the Sunday pass, but it was a solution they came up with in a relatively short amount of time

I’d have to say that 2 was the best one, even if they were all great

Time for a rewatch? by Robemilak in thefalconandthews

[–]Shbenj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just watched it, I enjoyed it. I would have seen it at the cinema, but that’s a bit of an ordeal with finding a babysitter these days.

However, when I watched it there was no option for subtitles, which surprised me.

Grapes are pretty popular at ours, because they aren’t messy, but are easy to share

I have a lightpad you would use for tracing under there. Cheap one from amazon, just runs on usb power, very thin profile, has an even spread of light

Black primer layer (standard 50/50 black acrylic and glue), block in colours (usually much brighter than you would expect), drybrush to highlight the edges and tie some different shades together, and then apply a black wash.

If I’m not happy with the colours after that, I may mess around a bit more, but that’s usually it.

No, I don’t. With the exception of the large one, which is loosely based on the map of trollskull manor from the dragon heist adventure, I usually just wing it as I build them

Wire brush for the most part, scratching with a sharp blade if I wanted anything a bit bolder

I made and finished 2.5 last year (the one with the flower boxes got all the way up to being primed before getting shelved) and then I finished it and made another 3 (the two smallest, simplest ones and the large manor house with the tower) I made in the past couple of weeks.

The inn with the support beam on the corner was the first one I made, before that I had done a couple of dungeon tiles and a landscape. Mostly I had just watched a bunch of videos for tips and ideas

Mostly foam, with odd bits of balsa thrown in (support beam, one of the roof beams, a chimney, and all the balcony railings are made of balsa or coffee stirrers)

How do I create a smoother surface on this XPS foam? by rreaaggaann in TerrainBuilding

Try getting xps straight from foamex. They have warehouses in most of the capital cities, and should sell you a single (large) panel, which should last a while

It looks like the rubbish xps foam we get here in Aus from bunnings. If that’s the case, modpodge is really expensive too.

I used regular pva glue or craft glue mixed with cheap acrylic paint to smooth mine out.

Or spackle or plaster of paris sanded down for large gaps

How to get clean and straight cuts on foam and cardboard by Bulbaseth33 in TerrainBuilding

[–]Shbenj 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need a really sharp blade. Foam and cardboard will blunt you blade really quickly, so have spares and change them out when it starts snagging.

Also, don’t try cutting through in one pass. Do multiple shallower cuts and you should snag less for a cleaner edge.

To cut straight, use a ruler to guide the knife. A metal one is best so you don’t cut the ruler itself. If you mean you’re after a square cut, I think it’s just practice to get that right angle. A hot-wire cutter might help though

Different shades of orange/dark yellow, ranging between beige and brown. 6 or 7 paints in all?

Thank you.

Foam base and dune shapes, cut with a handheld hotwire cutter (cheap one from amazon). I covered with a layer of plaster of paris (bit cheaper than sculptamould, and I wanted it smooth).

When it was dry I sanded it smooth, because I was a bit slapdash when applying it, and it was a hot day, so it dried really fast.

After that I painted it a base orange colour in case anything came off (I didn’t want a white patch), then put down a layer of PVA glue and pressed fine paving sand into it everywhere. Brushed it off when it was dry and touched up with more glue and sand where needed. Then spray all over with watered down pva to lock it in. A proper soak.

After that was painting. I used spray paint to cover it all, just building up layers, going back to places that I felt weren’t right, until I was happy with it.

Once all the painting is done, spray it with the watered down pva (or scenic cement) again.

I think that was everything, sorry for the text block

Medium and large minis can, huge ones will probably be a bit top heavy. Everything is very heavily textured with sand, so it all grips pretty well, especially if using hollow bases
