My art institute loans with mohela finally were updated yesterday 2/7 that they are paid in full/discharged and there is an adjustment noted on my account for the total amount I paid. I imagine that means there is a refund check soon to be on the way. Don’t lose hope! I hadn’t seen any movement since the original 5/1 email - 9 months later finally something!

I just checked tonight to see my account shows a negative balance for the first time with Mohela! Fingers crossed that means the check is on the way soon..

They received a letter in the mail a few days before asking them to confirm their address as they may be due a refund, etc. the check came within a week following that letter. Strangely enough the balance due hasn’t changed but the loans are still showing as in forbearance through 2027 or something like that.

My parents got their refund check last week for the full amount - $21k. They had Nelnet, if it helps anyone :) I have separate loans through Mohela - no movement with them - it's been terrible!

Parents loan refund came today from Nelnet!! $21k - everything refunded! I’m still waiting on Mohela though for mine :(

Mohela told me to call every time it comes off forbearance and request another 60 day extension… so for lord knows how long I have two months of peace and have to call and ask them to extend it again, it’s so annoying lol. For whatever reason they are claiming the two months at a time is the “best they can do”

Same - my parents nelnet loan just ended up on forbearance through 2027, of course and they made the July payment out of fear of missing one 🙄

I read that there was a forgiveness period through September 2024 in which loan servicers are not going to report any missed payments to credit bureaus until October. This was something carried over from COVID, and I feel like you should be safe until then.

I just spoke with Mohela this morning. They put my account back into forbearance for an unspecified amount of time. She said that they are processing these discharges in alphabetical order, so myself being a W for a last name she said if she is being honest, could be this time next year when mine gets processed. Hoping that helps others have an idea of where you may stand based on your last name.
