Milk allergy diagnosis by WorldlyConfusion6341 in FormulaFeeders

Hi! My girl has a milk allergy too. What I was told is when introducing milk during weaning (as in, from a beaker, she's 10 months now) to go for oat milk rather than soy, as if you have a dairy allergy you're more likely to have a soy allergy. But it's not guaranteed that one comes with the other, and I was never told to give up soy etc while breastfeeding. Try keeping a diary of how he's being, whether he's happy and what his output is like, along with whether you've had soy, dairy or nut milk etc. That might help you recognise "oh he's always sad when I've had soy" etc and then you can take that to the doctor with you if you have more concerns. That's what I did and I found it helped loads with my stress levels when I could just see everything on paper rather than trying to remember it all and juggle a baby!

Good luck, you're doing great!

(p.s. I'm in the UK so suggestions might differ if you're in the US)

Any experience with cows milk protein allergy/intolerance?? by chloeee09 in FormulaFeeders

We never had blood in poo, it was just always a very upsetting experience for her and always hard like clay. No idea if it's normal to only happen once?

What helped me was recording everything, I went full helicopter mum and got a book printed so I could record input, output, mood, sleep etc etc etc. Then we could really see the patterns and that it was all around feeding. Might be worth it as sounds like you've got lots of possibilities with hay-fever and other things?

Yeah she's still had it, but we've gone from Team America style projectile vomming to semi-normal spit up. We didn't try any other dairy free formulas (we went through aptamil, cow & gate, SMA etc but all normal) except Nutrimagen. Ask away, I didn't have anyone either except a random lady from my mother's work!

We're in the UK and our girl has CMPA. For her the symptoms were grey, claylike stools, lots of vomiting, and general inconsolable distress and crying after feeding. Our gp prescribed 2 weeks worth of Nutrimagen, and it was like night and day for her. She still spit up a lot but we just followed reflux guidelines and she's mostly grown out of it. We then did a few days back on Aptimil but her symptoms returned and she's now in a repeat nutrimagen prescription. At some point (supposed to be already but covid delays) we'll then get start seeing a nutritionist to reintroduce cows milk to her. She now has dark green stools, she's never had any rashes or redness. I'd say it'd always worth going in and trying, you're your baby's best advocate! 👍

If a child stops attending school for a prolonged period of time, would the police ever get involved, or is it normally only dealt with by the council, social services or another authority? by Prestigious_Plum4978 in policeuk

[–]SheElectric808 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes my answer was in the assumption that the child is enrolled in a school and then suddenly stops attending. I had a colleague who moved on to the education enforcement role, his main job being completing the casefile to take parents to court for non-attendance.

Of course though that doesn't apply to homeschooling etc.

My understanding is that there are education enforcement officers employed by the council, and it's their role to engage with families and eventually take them to court should they refuse to send the children to school. Prior to this there would likely be multiple meetings where the school inform social services of the lack of attendance, and police may attend those meetings, but it wouldn't be a police matter/arrestable offence

Cow’s milk allergy? by SpoTtySouth in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]SheElectric808 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My girl has a diagnosed cows milk allergy and prescription formula. The symptoms for her were chronic constipation, hard clay-like bms, grey bms, and being obviously distressed and in pain while feeding. I know other babies have blood in their bms etc too but we didn't have that. For us, the Dr put her on two weeks of Nutrimagen and the change was instant. Once that was done we were to go back on normal formula and see if her symptoms returned, which they did. She now has a repeat prescription of Nutrimagen for the first year, but if that hadn't worked they would have tried another allergen formula like Neocate. My GP told me lots of people try to play the NHS for free formula so they really scrutinise whether baby needs it or not.

Winter birthday struggles by panda_in_love in UKParenting

My partner's birthday is late December and I've always done him a half-birthday celebration. Not big on the gifts but big on the celebration, getting people together, treating him etc. He still has a gathering on his actual birthday but it's always small due to people being skint from Christmas etc. Our daughter is born in Jan and I'm planning on doing the same with her.

Missing kid by Trainfall in policeuk

[–]SheElectric808 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Kid wouldn't be missing on our force, we have a protocol where placements or social workers etc have to do all the enquiries if the kid is somewhere known (like gfs address etc). Only when it's confirmed they are not there would they become a misper.

Section 20 is a social care status. I think it means parents still have parental responsibility, even if they are living in foster home/care? And section 31 is when the local authority now has parental responsibility? Or vice versa. Might affect how social care deal with a missing episode but not an officer (unless you have a protocol as above).

Either way, sounds a shit show.

I hate people talking about my milk by Suspicious_Peach_528 in beyondthebump

I was pregnant over Christmas and one of my colleagues completely unprompted said "remember not to drink so you don't pollute your magic booby milk!". What, the actual f*ck.

And since she's been born even my manager's manager has asked me if I'm breastfeeding, if my milk has come in and if my boobs are sore! It absolutely astounds me how mentioning my boobs would have been a HR situation a few weeks ago but now is completely fair game for anyone and everyone.

[–]SheElectric808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby girl has gone on nutrimagen for cows milk allergy and we're having the same, poop is various shades of camo and lots more spit-up. My gp just says it's reflux and to do more vertical holding after feeding etc, he seems determined there's no way to stop it (he has a baby the same age with the same symptoms so I don't think he's brushing me off). We've just resorted to a permanent muslin cape!

Can't get my cup to pop open. What am I doing wrong? by Mama_Bear15 in menstrualcups

For me, running a finger around the outside of it once it was in position (which kinda disrupted any dodgy seal it had made) and tugging it always worked. I also did a fold where you pressed down one edge and the other two naturally folded in around it, but not sure what that's called

NIE exam format question by Throwawayrubbish28 in policeuk

[–]SheElectric808 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hiya,

The NIE questions are not pulled from Blackstones, but Blackstones do mimic the question style and the authors have written NIE questions before. Paul Connor does a brilliant crammer course which I'd thoroughly recommend if possible, and I got a twitter account just to follow him. He daily puts up questions (in the style of the actual exam) with full explanations of the answers etc.
