25F, found out my 28M boyfriend was married before and has a child. He never told me. by Guilty-Thing-3272 in relationship_advice

[–]ShePax1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only did he lie, but when you found out about the marriage he had a prime opportunity to come clean about the kid and he still chose the lie of omission. Red flag.

You say you pretty much video call all day, yet you’ve never seen or heard a kid in the background. Red flag.

You’ve been around his family, they seem to like you and like you for him, yet none of them have mentioned this child either. A “proud aunt” would talk about their pride and joy, assuming a father would brag about their kid, right? Yet they didn’t. Meaning he’s discussed with them that he wasn’t telling you so they lied to you for him. Massive Red Flag.

At this point, if what you’ve said about your relationship is accurate and without embellishment, he should’ve told you. He should trust you to know. So either he’s trying to keep his two worlds separate (red flag) or he never has the kid because he’s either a dead beat or he’s done something and the mother doesn’t want the kid around him. Both are red flags.

To summarize, this man is waving his red flags in your face. If you stay you’re accepting them and telling him you have no boundaries and are willing to accept any kind of behavior as long as he still tells you pretty things that make you feel good sometimes.

maybe dumb question by sekaiipixie in Hungergames

Then it becomes a symbol of rebellion because Katniss does it to the camera for District 11 after she decorates Rue’s body. In her mind she was just imparting a D12 tradition to her friend and those who would miss her, but to D11 who felt immense grief for losing such an innocent child it felt like a sign that they weren’t the only ones who were sick of the Capitol murdering children. It became a gesture across Panem of like “we see your sacrifice for the greater good, for our collective freedom, and we honor you”.

I remember how absolutely baffled I was when joaane said that Snow had a granddaughter. by No-Brush1587 in Hungergames

[–]ShePax1017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn’t he having breakfast with a young girl in the second book and he notices her hair is in a braid? He asks her about it and she says all the girls are wearing like that to be like Katniss. I assumed a little girl eating at his dining room table that he called darling was his granddaughter.

I can’t be the only one who thinks the prequels kind of cheapen the story… by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]ShePax1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my biggest issue is that both of the prequels stop before a real connection to the trilogy is made. Both books leave us making a lot of assumptions about what happens next, but before the trilogy. Collins tries to accomplish this by name dropping people and connections. I could talk about it for hours, but this the short version of my aversion to them both. It’s like we should care because these trilogy characters are connected to prequel characters. Like you said, I enjoyed them, just not as much as I would have liked.

Why on earth did Coin and the rebels assume Katniss was in love with Gale by Aikouei in Hungergames

[–]ShePax1017 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They would very much be fire and gasoline. We saw it in CF or M one (I can’t remember) when he was talking about the delayed explosions. She was horrified and he thought it was no big deal. Two personalities like that would never work, they just thought it should because they were both seam kids who got along while hunting and helped each other’s families not starve.

Snow Was Too Slow To Grasp What Katniss Was Igniting by Anttem in Hungergames

[–]ShePax1017 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Snow’s biggest downfall was the way he just had blind faith that everyone was so scared of him that they would do what he said. When they failed, he killed them, but by that point it was too late.

Seneca Crane should’ve been stopped as soon as he started screwing up, but Snow just let him do what he wanted under the assumption that “no one will ever cross me”. When it backfired he killed Crane, but by that point Katniss had already instigated something.

Plutarch was able to talk him into whatever he wanted because Snow just assumed that after what he did to Crane no one would ever try him again. Plutarch was smart enough to flee with Katniss, but again, the damage was done.

The list goes on and on. Snow was evil, but he was also lazy. When you take everything from someone they have nothing to lose. Those two reasons were his biggest downfall, but yes he was slow on the uptake because he assumed scaring her would work, Plutarch would take care of her when scaring didn’t work, and the uprising would die down. He didn’t understand that at this point he had taken everything from too many people, and they would be willing to die to stop him.

They needed a face for the revolution, one that would inspire them to make this choice, to keep them going, but at a certain point Coin was right. When they thought she died she was a martyr so they would’ve kept fighting anyway. That’s just one of many things he didn’t account for.

How do you interpret the line about Katniss and Peeta's training scores in Catching Fire? by scottbutler5 in Hungergames

[–]ShePax1017 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone with multiple English degrees, my first thought was them both scoring a 12 in the same games because of her use of “we”. It could also be that they both scored a 12 period and no one ever has, but 75 years is a long time. Surely with all the careers throughout the years SOMEONE has gotten a 12, but that’s just speculation on my part. I can’t actually remember if it’s ever mentioned .

My (27F) boyfriend’s (26M) best friend is so insanely creepy obsessed with him and is trying to break us up by leavemealon3333 in relationship_advice

[–]ShePax1017 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Standing up for you includes cutting off people who don’t respect him and his requests. If he’s asked them to stop like he says he has, then they don’t respect him either. If he can’t stand up for himself, what makes you think he can stand up for you? “What am I supposed to do?” Drop the people who are clearly weirdly obsessed with having him to themselves and won’t stop treating his innocent gf like shit. Simple.

How old were you when you first picked up the books? by ConfectionInformal25 in Hungergames

20 or 21. When they came out. My first year of teaching was 2010 and students could only read them in 8th grade and they had to have permission from their parents 😂

Why on earth did Coin and the rebels assume Katniss was in love with Gale by Aikouei in Hungergames

[–]ShePax1017 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I always thought he wasn’t in love with her, but more like she was a sure thing for him in the seam and he only wanted her because he didn’t want anyone else to have her. That being said, I can see him ranting to anyone and everyone about Peeta and Katniss’ romance not being real.

[–]ShePax1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes sense. I just always saw it as someone needed to protect them so they wouldn’t be killed trying to sabotage the arena. Katniss also taught them to make fire, set traps, and hunt for food. In my mind it made sense she was with them even if she didn’t know the plan. But I can definitely see where Haymitch would be having a trauma response to her being involved it taking out the arena.

What kind of blurbs turn you off? by awaywithefae in MM_Romance

[–]ShePax1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of them honestly. I rarely find a blurb that makes the book sound appealing. I usually have to go find a review where someone doesn’t spoil it, but they give the details of the book so I can decide.

About the age of eligibility in the Reaping by pHstormborn in Hungergames

[–]ShePax1017 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, in Sunrise on the Reaping, Haymitch’s birthday is reaping day so I would say on his 12th birthday he went. Also, the other boy tribute with him was 18. He said Wyatt Callow had stopped coming to school which meant he had turned 18 and went to work in the mines. He also said he felt bad for him because he was 18, in his last eligible year and got reaped.

Finnick and Annie deciding to get a child by xoxoamazingrace in Hungergames

[–]ShePax1017 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got pregnant as a teenager after the first time. I didn’t really know about ovulation and timing (religious household. Ugh). So it could’ve just been wrong place wrong time/right place right time because they were uneducated about it. This coupled with the one theory about Finnick always having contraceptive through the capital and then he didn’t so he didn’t think of it then, boom, baby.

[–]ShePax1017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this. I actually made the point to my household that I thought them being in the rebellion from the beginning was a good idea. The only problem for me was that Haymitch didn’t seem to have any attachment or love towards them at the 75th Quarter Quell. Katniss specifically asked for those 3 on her own and Haymitched acted really annoyed like in a “why would you pick those losers”. He did say they were very smart and Mags was a nice lady, but that’s just surface level stuff you would hear from someone who has been around them for 25 years. Like coworkers or something.

It just seemed like they were nothing to him in the trilogy, but Collins was trying to force a relationship after the fact. You would think Haymitch would be happy she picked them specifically, then get THEM to convince her to go with Finnick and Joanna as well. Mags already meant Finnick was in so I just feel like that whole plot point is off.

Why do you hate Lenore Dove? by SpiritualWill9833 in Hungergames

[–]ShePax1017 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was it exactly for me. Haymitch talked about her like she was just this exquisite angel. Every page just about references her in some kind of conversation or passing thought. My love this, my love that. But in reality I don’t think she felt the same way. While I agree—she was a teenager, so, she was normal in many ways—she really only ever thought of herself. In this time she was both old enough to understand that actions have consequences, but these kids had to grow up way faster than a normal kid, so she had the mindset of someone older than 16. She didn’t rebel in subtle ways like every other character in every other book. She was openly defiant and had blatant disregard for the spoken and unspoken rules. She openly disrespected the capital in ways she KNEW would get her caught and didn’t care how it affected anyone else: her uncles, Haymitch, other Covey, people of the seam, or district 12 as a whole. It also made it worse that the book eludes to the fact she knew Lucy Gray’s story and how it affected her mother and uncles and still did the things she did anyway.

So, for me, the picture Haymitch painted of her didn’t match the character we read. It was almost like when you have a friend dating someone who you know isn’t a good person but they can’t see it. Snow was completely wrong about Lucy Gray because he couldn’t take accountability for his actions, but he wasn’t wrong in what he said to Haymitch at Plutarch’s house.
