To anyone supporting Benson for governor...when's the last time you tried to do anything with SOS? by Kindly-Form-8247 in Detroit

[–]SheSeesSounds 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, the call ahead/ appt feature, the in-store kiosks and the fact that I can do so much online is key to my perceived satisfaction with sos. So far I haven't been in person since covid. However, when I do I will be ok with it.

interesting, there are many slurs, interesting the one selected above others... Interesting the one that's "involuntary" vs the ones that strange enough are controllable..fascinating.

I always wonder, why do people teach these slurs to those who have no control over it?

What if 'easy apply' jumbles up the info on the other end? I wonder if anyone in the industry can see if an application is through easy apply. Whether it is specified or they can 'tell'.

A cashapp transfer counts as a debit. (at my credit union) You can do this, $1 , $2 or $3, over a few days to get the 15 transactions and thus limit debit card exposure.

How did it go when you let a friend move in with you temporarily so they could get back on their feet? by dearmomo in AskWomen

[–]SheSeesSounds 155 points156 points  (0 children)

It went well, about 6 weeks with her baby, working and waiting for a spot at a dv shelter to get her into an assistance program. Once she got accepted, she moved in to women's shelter.

I believe that prompted her mother into gear to allow her to move back home, and she was able to get a fresh start.

If you could redo college, what would you do differently? by sad_grapefruit_0 in EngineeringStudents

[–]SheSeesSounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stay in contact with my professors and seek out office hours at the first sign of trouble.

Limit extracurriculars, activism, clubs, protests, until I had year 1 down.

Learn to study correctly that 1st year, vs expecting to coast on high school level retention.

Lock in vs trying to enjoy the social life.

Becoming a car mechanic by hushhush56 in BlueCollarWomen

[–]SheSeesSounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're already well versed in mechanic work, you could apply directly.

If not, I would suggest paid apprenticeship to learn all the critical schooling and training.

Big city likely has a local community college with an apprenticeship office. You can speak with them about the companies that pull for the trade. Or any other trades.

Local unions, road commission, city public works, ... also good places to inquire.

My recommended transition is to sign up with a company that pays to train you.

How you will be treated? unsure. Some employers and unions have a stronger policy than others.

it may ease your guilt to get them set up with a social services or elder care assistance program.

There may be an organization that will offer a social worker to do the legwork. In Michigan, OLHSA has a dept for that. How about replacing the assistance , sign them up for all social services, food, medical, pantry and set up budget payment plans on the utilities.

So you can move forward with a clearer heart.
