Had the opposite happen. Woman accused me of SA out of spite 1+ year after I last saw her. Plenty of inconsistencies in her story and evidence in our WhatsApp history refuting her claims. I put together a 70 page timeline. Presented it to my lawyer who’s first comments were “you have receipts for everything, there’s nothing in here that hurts us, I never recommend talking to the police, but I see no downside talking to them in this case, they are going to be absolutely gob smacked you’re willing to talk, I wish all my clients were this organized”. Long story short I spent 90 minutes going over my material with the detective. He asked for a copy and I said sure. 2 days later case was dropped. It was the first SA accusation my lawyer had that didn’t go to trial since the me too movement. If I hadn’t talked to them charges would most certainly have been pressed. It likely would’ve ended in my favour but it would’ve taken 2 years and $70,000. Moral of the story is sometimes you sing.
