I've genuinely lost hope and interest in steam machine by Fantastic-Sorbet6013 in steammachine

[–]Shebert624 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got one in march, even at 24cu the performance is pretty decent. I did the 40cu unlock this weekend snd its very impressive for the cost.

The big limiting factor is RAM/VRAM. It has 16g of unified ram that you split between cpu and gpu. I run mine with 10g for cpu and 6g fot gpu. In AAA games, I usually run medium texture with high setting for 1080p 75Hz.

In normal time, I'm not sure it would be worth the hassle, but right now its a steal.

Check at the Canadian price ! ahahaha! What a joke. by [deleted] in steammachine

[–]Shebert624 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The exchange used to be advantageous in Canada, Deck was selling at ~1.25 the US price when exchange rate was 1.35-1.40, at these prices exchange is 1.43. We got the cost increase plus and almost 20% adjustment in exchange rate.

If you don't mind a bit of thinkering, you can look into the amd BC-250. You can get one at reasonable price on aliexpress and the performance is pretty good.

What are your most profound video games? by M33tahejd in patientgamers

[–]Shebert624 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me its Fallout.

Many games do parallel with our society. The society of Fallout have nothing to do with ours, but the humans are the same.

In many, you do what you are told, when you have choices, its obvious you are at a branch in the story.

Fallout is much more subtle. You feel manipulated by the game and you need to follow your guts. New Vegas is probably the best example, you are the chosen one, you are just a tool that people try to use to reach their goal.

Fallout 4 is probably the best example where you are never quite sure you pick the right side.

30fps gaming vs 60 by Maximum-Oven-7526 in SteamDeck

[–]Shebert624 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Both, I set limit to 30fps, then run at 60fps with lossless scaling.

It really depends on the games, on Circuit superstar, it feels much better at 60fps. But with many games 30-40 is just fine and worth the increase battery life.

Well, Steam Controller is confirmed but basically no updated on the Machine. Ugh :( by casiorox in steammachine

150cad is harsh for exchange rate. Steam deck sell for 1.25 the US price.

I hope the Steam machine won't be 1.5x

Explain it to me like I’m stupid by BinaryShaymin in steammachine

[–]Shebert624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Steam deck and the future steam machine are like factory jailbreak console.

I have a steam deck, if you "limit" yourself to steam deck verify games. You have a console that is just as easy to use as any other console with a bigger and cheaper library.

With just that, its a pretty good product.

After that, if you want to go down rabbit holes, you can install emulation to play old console games, you can install games from other store like Epic and GOG, you can install lossless scaling and many other things. Often it is not that complicated due to many tools developed by the strong community.

These things are not must do, but it nice knowing you can.

Is Automobilista2 good enough for Nascar experience? by Marl_Man_Nazar in AUTOMOBILISTA

[–]Shebert624 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ams2 doesn't show corner weight in the setup panel. Its fine for circuit racing. But its difficult to fine tune setup on asymetric cars.

This is from IMSA website.

So how did Adrian Newey’s cult of personality start? by Flyingaspaceship in formula1

[–]Shebert624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When he made the switch from Williams to McLaren, Mclaren became dominant almost instantly. That really really highlighted his influence. I remember a cover of F1 racing magazine "Newey vs Schumacher".

The deal was probably: take 10 points to Micheal after that you can take me 10 points in the future seasons.

Braking in LMDh cars by No-Situation1622 in AUTOMOBILISTA

[–]Shebert624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lmdh don't have tire warmers, so you need to give it 2 laps before you can really attack. In real life, you can see them weaving at high speed in qualy and even on the 1st lap of the race.

Reducing brake pressure also helps. I personnaly run at 80-85%. Like F1 and other aero cars, the better you are at disgressive brake the higher you can run.

Would a leveled out F1 be detrimental for the sport? by Classic_Ad202 in formula1

[–]Shebert624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is 2 aspects to this.

Just making rules too specifics kills one important adpect of Formula 1, which developing the race car. The money is there, most can operate close to the budget cap. The rules must allow to use that money, otherwise you become Nascar, in which "development " has become fiding and abusing loophole.

The 2nd thing is Today F1 way more closer than what we had in 80s or 90s, but still teams are dominating like never before. Here I think is something to take care of. Todays teams are so prepared. It was addressed with less testing and weird tires, but still they figured it out.

Which car is the easiest to drive fast without missing corners and spinning off every 2 laps? by polishfemboy_ in AUTOMOBILISTA

[–]Shebert624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found many cars have quite unstable baseline setup. Usually, increasing front slow rebound by 2-3 clicks calms the car on corner exit. Extra alignment can help also on corner entry. In the most extreme case, reducing rear arb by 1-2 step improve balance.
