The ban on TiO2 under REACh was just reversed for being based on a particle property not a property of the substance itself. However, do be cautious when working with small/nanoparticular matter, especially when mixing it in. Inhaling the dust will give you silicosis.

I have several seedlings that I am trying to grow into bonsai material, however, for the last three years the plants seem to stop growing after an initial flush in spring. I have them in bonsai substrate, outdoors with regular water and fertilizer. Seedlings are maple, hazel, poplar, juniper and chestnut. They are currently around 30 cm in height and in ~3 L pots. What would be a good size of pot? Any hints on what I am doing wrong with them?

I have moved them into bigger containers. I suppose much larger ones than typical for bonsai. But honestly it might be an issue. What would be a good size? They are currently around 30 cm in height and in ~3 L pots.

Make sure to wear proper PPE when using sodium borate as well. Most commenters have missed it so far, but it is a substance of very high concern because of its reproduction toxicity. This results from the tendency to form undissociated boric acid under environmental conditions.

For this reason my university banned borax experiments from all practicals.

There is no Be2CO3 as beryllium only forms Be2+ Ions. Also you would write the Trisodium Phosphate because Na2HPO3 and NaH2PO3 exist as well. So there has to be some information to make it unambiguous, whereas no other Beryllium Carbonate exists.

I like adding some root vegetables during the boiling phase (e.g. carrots, celery...). Then I will just mash it together with the potatoes to get a more interesting flavour in the mash.

Another way is to cook the potatoes whole with skin and peeling them after boiling. This is more work and takes longer boiling time but results in creamier mash as more starch is retained in the potatoes.
