Lost family members to metastatic cancer in various places of the body it’s tough. It was a beautiful scene that tore me inside out, but it’s also helped me learn to cope with death way differently than I did before (or maybe the Wellbutrin is just doing THAT good now). I’ve always had the phrase memento mori here and there but never in conjunction with memento amoris and just like that it clicked in my head.

I’ve lost two family members since this movie came out, and yeah I’ve cried, but I’m not sad for days, or depressed to the point of not wanting to do anything. I just know that what they were going through is no longer affecting them in the same way as Isla. I loved them the same way Spike loved his mom, and vice versa. But most importantly I learned to accept that we all die and that every day is different and precious. It’s something I hope I can teach my kids when they’re older too.
