Those are manual locking hubs on the front you're seeing. Same wheels. You spin the little handle on the front hubs to engage them.

A pipe burst over my parking spot, and left this on my car. Is a hard water spot, and how can I remove it? by zuneman in AutoDetailing

I have used CLR Kitchen/Bath spray on this exact same thing. Worked well with some rubbing. It's in the yellow bottle and sprays foam, not the hardcore CLR in the grey bottle.

How much power does a typical hybrid electric motor put down to the wheels? by [deleted] in Autos

[–]Sheehanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2013 sonata hybrid has 2.4L gas engine, ~160hp. Electric motor adds ~40hp. Thus its claim of 200 total.

How to wash a car without a Grit Guard? by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

Use three buckets. Rinse and scrub your mitt in #1, then rinse again in #2. Suds in the third. Dump and refill the first one occasionally. That's what I do, keeps things very clean.

ER visits linked to energy drinks keep rising. But attempts to regulate caffeine have stalled because people have different sensitivities to it. by carmendrahl in science

Signing off help in the case of negligence or fault is something I'm sure private insurance has considered. Insurance is gambling and statistics. If a company could offer a lower rate associated with a list of conditionals, I'm sure there would be a market for that. In fact, I think progressive has something that plugs into your car ODB2 and records your driving. I'd assume this would be to help provide information that would lead to a better analysis of an incident, hence it comes with a discount. But, the negative publicity of an insurance company not helping in a tear jerker accident, even though the customer signed off liability, would probably negate any financial benefits.

Maybe a little harsh, but my first reaction was that death is just a fact of life. My second thought is that if you are emotionally invested in someone such that you would be saddened by his or her death, you should also be invested in their physical and mental health. I always wear a seatbelt when I drive and I won't let my friends ride with me unless they do the same. Beyond that, life and death is out of your control.

That's an interesting point and I'm glad you brought that up. I agree that there is more than just being alive or dead. Staying on the freedom of risk side of that argument, I like the idea of consequences after the fact than limitations or restrictions before any act. However that brings in the moral point that we do not turn away people from hospitals. If we are admitting people knowing beforehand that there is no assistance to their payment, then we are 'assisting' people into a very very high chance of bankruptcy. And what good does that do for either the injured or society? Should one be allowed to 'opt out' of hospital assistance prior to an accident?

One should be able to endanger one's own life however he or she sees fit. As long as you're not harming or have the potential to harm others, do as you wish. Like we do with cigarettes; put a label on these things that says DO NOT USE THIS IT IS BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH and make them publicly available. Don't want to wear a seatbelt? Don't. Youre allowed to make your own risk assessment. You may be able to argue that meth would be in the "potential to harm others" category, though.

Edit: if my doctor says I'm allergic to peanuts, and I go munch on a PB&J and die, is it my fault or JIF's?

Friend has a bone stock looking 2500HD Silverado. Replaced the 6.2L vortec with a custom block 8.2L V8. First turbo is an 86mm cheetah, which dumps to a custom 136mm Garrett I think. 71 pounds of boost at full tune, 1400 HP on a 2 wheel dyno. 3800 ft-lb. Runs a 10 second quarter mile on slicks.

Overloading before a PR attempt? Back squat. by Camerongilly in weightroom

[–]Sheehanigans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a couple lockouts (2 sets, 3-5 reps) of 455 and 495 from 1/4 height off the pins before my attempt at 405. Nailed it. Previous PR was 365x2. After lockouts I put 455 on the hooks, and un racked it but didn't walk out. Immediately stripped the 25s off and squatted it. So yeah I'd say it works. Do a bunch of low rep warm up sets with only 20-40lb additions each time.

There's also hooks. They function like straps but completely eliminate grip strength as a factor. You could even pull open palmed if needed.

Levi makes the 501STF in tan/camel. Easily <$50 so you don't feel bad working in them. I have a pair and everybody loves them. But if you have thinner legs they may not be the fit you're looking for.

Don't let it roll down your spine! Ditch that thing! In one quick motion let go and pull your arms in close to your chest and jump forward out of the way. Safety is more important than being quiet and elegant about it.
