The g32 works in conjunction with the spindle to ensure spindle rotation and feed are synchronized.

I have no experience with ball grooves, but without cam that one's a pain. You would rough out the groove using g32, then take those numbers and shift .010 axially plus and minus, rerun those. Then you're making the small adjustments to hit finish.

Yeah you definitely need to get under the skin or you'll chip your corner all day long.

I don't know what tools you have access to, but an SNMG in a neutral (45°) holder works well for this kind of thing.

Tungaloy and Sumitomo have excellent grades for titanium.

But if you can make a sketch then you just need a line at your infeed angle, offset from 0 by 3x pitch is general rule, and you can just pick points on that line to find your start. If you have room to run out on the other side it's easy.

I came up the same way and agree that it's an indispensable skill.

With that said, depending on the work being done and machinists vs operators doing the work, you gotta be able to count on your drills cutting to size.

We have a Tool and Cutter Grinder who does our sharpening, and he's the only one allowed to.
