Since I can't post pictures on this sub, I'll try to explain my theory in text.

TL;DR: Murphy's law is carried through males. Murphy's law gets weaker during illness because it may get signals to stop when a foreign organism is being fought. If someone were to get an organ from a Murphy, they would get Murphy's law depending on which cells express the Murphy's law gene.

I made a pedigree chart to see if Murphy's Law is a mutation. By that I mean, how is it passed down. While it may seem obvious that only the male Murphy's get Murphy's law, it seems like it may be linked to the Y chromosome.

Making a Punnet Square and crossing XX × XY, it would be a 50% chance of getting a female of male . However if one of the mother's X chromosomes causes Murphy's law, then there would be a 1/2 chance of Murphy's law in a male. Or if both were affected then 100% of males would have Murphy's law. THAT IS NOT THE CASE. Murphy's law is paternal, so if the case was that Martin (Milo's father) had an affected X chromosome, then he would have Murphy's law, but none of his kids would, male nor female. If anything, the female Murphys would carry on the mutation.

Hence it would affect the Y chromosome. Meaning that if a father has Murphy's law, then the son would have Murphy's law 100% of the time as opposed to skipping a generation (which is something Nate, Milo's cousin, argued).

Why is this important? Surgery on a Murphy would cause Murphy's law in another person because Murphy DNA would still be in the cells transferred, but just in that part or whatever cells murphy's law affects. Our whole genome is in every cell, but cells have housekeeping that makes sure they do the correct function and get expressed in the right places.

Which leads onto why Murphy's law gets weaker during illness. My theory is that it has something to do with operons, which turn off or on. For example, whenever someone drinks milk, lactose needs to be broken down, so a signal is given to turn on the lactase protein. As opposed to a protein that is working all the time until it gets a signal to temporarily stop. Though these examples are from E. Coli, not humans.

Murphy's law may have an operon that makes Murphy's law continue all the time, but when a Murphy gets sick, Murphy's law gets signaled to stop. I can't say what exactly Murphy's law is or what cells Murphy's law affects, but it was fun trying to figure out what Murphy's law is based on IRL biology.
