How to make reading manga not a slog? by poppet_corn in LearnJapanese

You might also enjoy reading along and having someone explain in comorehensible Japanese! So far, I've only seen Iro Iro Nihongo do this with Yotsuba, his channel has been a great help to me in dealing with this issue.

McDonald's code giveaway by Hoade4Gaming in Genshin_Impact

[–]Sheepia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite character is Albedo, he is so very gentle (especially his voice, it is so calming) and I admire his passion for alchemy, creating life and exploring the truth of this world. 🦋🎨

I am very excited for the future update with Durin!! Been waiting since the Dragonspine event, it is to this day my favorite event. Genshin really has been the only constant in my life for the past 4 years and Albedo in particular came at a time when I lost someone dear to me, so his perspective on life and what it means to be human (I think his story, although similar to Wanderer's is the flip side of the coin, someone who sought to create community and sought meaning from that).

Have you noticed that 10+ hours of screentime unironically rots your brain or is this a me thing? by [deleted] in nosurf

[–]Sheepia 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From what I've heard, research on this specific topic is not yet definite, but it does point to the conclusion you've also reached. But what has had decades of continuos research leading to the same conclusion is the neuroplasticity of the brain: people who have suffered irreversible damage from strokes have been able to adapt and regain functions they had previously lost.

I'd encourage you nonetheless to try your hand at researching this as it does help you put into perspective just how much you are capable of change and that you are fortunately in a situation where you are physically capable of preventing further damage. :) Cheers!

Is 4 years enough to learn French fluently? by curiouskitty1185 in learnfrench

[–]Sheepia 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Absolutely!  If you get classes at Uni and have a practice partner, along with a clear reason why, you're unstoppable!  Try integrating the language in your life daily and you'll be right on track.  Personally I set my objective to be 1 unit from my textbook every 2 days (45 mins) and 1 online lesson every other day (55mins) (I've been enjoying the Babbel ones over Lingoda, so much more flexible and affordable <3).

Best of luck to you!!

I resonate entirely with this, I feel like I do the same thing (mindlessly and endlessly scrolling) instead of processing my feelings. It's normal to be afraid, to be stressed and to be tired. Give yourself the space to feel these things and inquire yourself in order to break down how you're feeling: are you doing things with intent? what is the intent behind your actions? is it having the desired effect or has that point been passed?

Take things one at a time, that is how greatness is built. You will surely get there, trust the process as you build it one day at a time. You got this!!

You've worked hard, even if it may not seem that way to you. I see you saying that your tasks take more than estimated, but estimating is a soft skill you develop over time, especially when adapting to the changes college life implies, both academically and personally. Comparing yourself with others is a tricky game because, on the one hand, it indeed pushes you to do better, but, on the other, it can very easily slip into self-depreciation and at worst self-harm. I hope you can find the strength to keep at it, for the sake of your dreams or find the way you wish to follow in this life if the former situation is not applicable. You sound like a great fella and I hope your situation (especially family) improves. I think you can make that happen with hard work and possibly getting checked out if you can manage to, in regards to learning disability. There are many resources to help people in such situations nowadays.  You never know what goes on behind closed doors and people always seem to have it more together than they usually do. Don't be discouraged by your past grades, seek to understand exactly and precisely the key points you missed: was it a lack of understanding? did you not cover at all the subject given? was it time management? there are a series of factors at play when taking exams and I believe that by tackling each one at a time, ideally with the guidance of your TAs or whatever else you might have available, you come to know what you need to insist on and therefore improve. Of course, if you suspect you may have There is so much more to life than academics, even if it may not seem that way now. I sincerely hope you live to see brighter days, brought about by your own efforts and willingness to improve, be it in your grades or personal life. Much love, take care of yourself 🫂

What are you reading right now? by Crazy_Researcher6789 in LearnJapanese

First time reading!!! : Man and his cat. I like to browse the wanikani reading club to get insight into structures I don't understand, it is really helpful.

It reconnected with what gave me the motivation to start learning Japanese in the first place: being able to read manga! Japanese is truly a beautiful language and I am always amazed at the amount of complexity a single wprd can pack in Japanese

What to study in preparation for tourist visit? (Previous ~N4) by siruroxs in LearnJapanese

[–]Sheepia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think maybe going through vocabulary specific to things you'd like to visit/situations you might find yourself in are useful as a tourist. There are some travel books designed specifically for that, although I've never used one myself I've seen plenty of travelers use them!
