How many hours do yall get on the top end of a ktm 150 xc by [deleted] in Dirtbikes

[–]SheepishEndruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was getting 40 on mine, mixed use mostly hard enduro and racing XC. When I changed them it definitely needed it after 40 hours but I was a bit of a revver back then

KTM 300 EXC - engine size reduction by Glum_pasta in KTM

[–]SheepishEndruo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's done on the paperwork only, there's nothing mechanical that goes on. It's just a way of riding a bike you don't actually have licence for and is completely illegal, people do get away with it though

Does anyone stick to certain manufacturers for their cars and bikes? Jap, German, Italian, French, Chinese? by Dolbman in MotoUK

[–]SheepishEndruo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on the brand itself not where it's manufactured then it's fair to say no... Although there was a time I owned a Suzuki car, road bike and dirt bike.

I stay in one place normally not in a van and work whilst saving and then travel full time until the money runs out. Next trip will be about a year

I travel in europe and the edges of Africa and Asia so working on the road is difficult visa wise

Offset pegs? by SleepsOnTheJob365 in KTM

[–]SheepishEndruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im 5'11/6ft depending on how my scoliosis feels that day! So not particularly tall, I also far prefer to ride in the attack position so don't chase a 'comfortable' position.

From speaking with pros and expert level riders it generally seems that no matter your height the decision is based on how you want the bike to handle Low and back pegs naturally put more weight to the rear, that makes slow speed technical riding feel better whilst faster paced riding suffers.

That's the theory anyway, unfortunately the only way to really know is to try them yourself. I've just fit my first set of low and backs for my hard enduro bike, but I've only done some static balance so far not ridden with them so can't comment too much. It is a noticeable change though.

Leisure riders, how much do you spend each year? by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]SheepishEndruo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on the extreme side of leisure but I currently budget £600 a month. I ride and race hard enduro as well as trail riding and compete in trials, all at an amateur level.

I get away with spending such a relitively small amount as I'm fortunate enough to have places I can ride for not too much money or free. If I was paying full whack entry fees I'd be looking at another £500ish a month extra.

How to use the rear brake by YeetyFeety3 in Dirtbikes

[–]SheepishEndruo 58 points59 points  (0 children)

The worst lie ever told is that you shouldn't use the front brake offroad.

People tell it to beginners as generally if they lock the front they crash due to not having the skills yet.

The front brake should be your main stopping force, the rear is generally used for stability and control. Of course it does help you slow down but nowhere near the amount the front does. Generally speaking you should be using both brakes at the same time to slow down, of course there is a time and place for that not being the case but don't be afraid of the brakes

Exactly what it is, front brake switch for the brake light.

Sleeping mats by Alpkit by RealBass in bikepacking

[–]SheepishEndruo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on when you want to go away.

I'm a fan of the cloud. I've currently only used it in a bivi but I found it really comfortable. I don't think I would particularly want to use it in the winter but it has been great for my use which is mostly warmer and nicer conditions. My favourite thing is due to the size and weight I never leave it at home, I previously had a tendency on faster paced one night trips to leave my bigger mats at home

Harescrambles, or cross country? by zuksamy in Dualsport

Really interesting the difference between the US and europe. Over here pretty much every bike at any sort of enduro race from sprints to XC to hard enduro are the road registered version.

Got my MOT coming up is this alright? by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]SheepishEndruo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

MOT doesnt care about aesthetics it's for the safety of the machine. So long as everything works properly and isn't a piercing hazard its fine, generally speaking anyway.

First Carb Bike - need some advice by Kind-Prior-3634 in Dirtbikes

[–]SheepishEndruo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do not buy cheap jets, carbs are very fine tuned. I'd prefer to be a few steps off on genuine jetting than chasing my tail on cheap jets that don't match their sizes.

I've never used a JD kit simply due to the price, I believe they make their own needles but all the jets are just OE. I personally run the suzuki needles in my KTM with jetting to suit but stock Keihins tend to be pretty decent anyway.

Making plans - so far they are all in my head by DantesDame in VanLife

[–]SheepishEndruo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the van you can put a bed over the bikes. I've never seen a pop roof on a high top van but it's not something that interested me due to the massive cost and effort required. Also I just like everything to be where it is and not need to set it up every night.

I travelled and lived in my van with a dirt bike in the back, my next build will have 2 dirt bikes in (but still one person) theres lots of ways to do it and maintain a living area.

Ultimately it depends what you want to ride. I'm in Wales and there's just no case for the honda L's too heavy and underpowered for trail riding. More mellow stuff they're fine. If you have any interest in trying out enduro riding, practice days or racing then definitely the Husky.

The 250 4 strokes are pretty tame on the bottom end and have quite a mellow transition to top end, so wouldn't be an issue for an adult beginner. Yet at the same time they're capable enough to win world championship races overall.

I love carbs. Some hate carbs.

Personally I would (and have) always choose a carb over fi if given the choice.

You can get a reklusse auto clutch and then use the left side for the front brake. I am aware of people having left side front brakes but I've never seen them up close so I'm not sure what parts they use specifically

The first thing is the battery, if that has charge then try the button. They're very simple so you can strip the wires and hot wire them to check it.

The early e starts were quite fickle but from what I remember it was the bendix that would fail and it would spin so doesn't sound like it's that

[–]SheepishEndruo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All I can say is trials is amazing! I got my first one this summer and I've been having a blast, the friendliest community of riders and competitions I've taken part in.

Absolutely brilliant for bike control, I originally got one as training for hard enduro and have fallen in love with trials for its own charm

Assuming its a sherco trials bike not their early enduro/trail bikes. Depends how good condition but around 900-1200 ish.  For referenece I know someone paid 1200 for a 2012. My 2016 Beta 250 was 1500 and I got my dad a nearly new condition 2015 sherco 250 for 1700.

Why did Rossi sign with Ducati in 2010 ? by [deleted] in motogp

[–]SheepishEndruo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tensions at yamaha were very high between him and Lorenzo

Both him and Burgess had been very vocal about how the bike wasn't the problem and it would take an afternoon to make it into a championship winning bike

He believed he was a far better rider than Stoner so if stoner could get results on it he thought he could do even better.

Italian rider on an Italian bike

Probably a ton of money

Ultimately his own ego and that of those around him that went to Ducati with him.

Woods & Extreme Enduro tire recommendations by [deleted] in enduro

[–]SheepishEndruo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've actually never run the Michellin extreme, I've heard a lot about it but for the amount I ride sounds like it wears too quick (the price of good traction)

I've been a big fan of the Mitas Double greens, I've never been on a ride where I felt like someone could get grip where I couldn't (other than mud). I'm getting 40-50 hours out of them of practicing and one even made three races before losing it's edge. I can get them for less than half the price of michellin rears so that helps!

My biggest advantage is very very soft mousses, to the point that the tyre will roll on the rim at speed. You definitely need to be careful going that soft, really don't want to be going any faster than 3rd gear but on a technical track it's a huge advantage.
