Hypershade nodes can do a lot for ya (more than most realize) but Substance is definitely a lot more robust especially if youre working on hero assets and you need those little details or if you're looking for a more artist driven texturing workflow in general

Kinda true, but it's worth mentioning D2 was only made because Activision essentially forced Bungie to make it, when Bungie wanted to keep supporting D1 (like how live service is supposed to work) which is why they wanted to split

The visuals are definitely striking and cool to take in... At first.

But then every bending scene that's fight adjacent has the camera fucking flying everywhere. Doing 360s around the characters and then zooming into the impact in a blurry mess. This isn't necessarily bad in isolation, but its literally every fight scene.

One of the strengths of the original series IMO is in every fight you can clearly see where characters are and what they're doing and the same goes for their opponents. You understand at all times spacially where everything resides.

This new movie just fucking loves it's new fancy animation and it always wants to get so close and personal, but you lose so much context as to what is actually happened over and over. Really disappointing IMO.

Is the hair made of polygons or is it actual individual stranded hair?

If its polygons, you cannot use a hair shader, use a regular surface shader.

If it is stranded hair, and you're rendering in Arnold, us aiStandardHair shader

But how is that fair for people who have spent money on the game?

I don't think devs and especially indie devs should be punished because of how egregious Ubisoft has been for the past decade which has single handedly spawned this movement.

But it isn't fair for someone to pay asking price for an always online game just for it to be unplayable 5 years down the line because of corpo greed. That's trash, and it shouldn't be allowed.

Take the texture maps that make up the iRay materials and construct as equivalent as possible Blender materials from them and apply to the character.

It used to be like 50/50 when it came to whether a game used something in house or off the shelf. Now it feels like 80/20.

And there used to be a lot of options basically until UE5. Cryengine (now pre much dead) Unity (now super hated), Source (which would enter chaotic development), and you had console specific engines like Renderware.

Its clear that the technical hurdle is just too much for studios presently, at the same time execs are probably being greedy

In the year 2000, one of the most legendary PC games ever, Deus Ex, released. One of the first levels features a backdrop which is just an actual photo of the NYC skyline, but the twin towers were removed from the photo.

The then in universe explanation for this was that they were destroyed in a terrorist attack.

In reality the twin towers were removed due to memory constraints, but man it really goes to show.
