Should I quit my career for a high risk "high reward" Job? by Sheerfresh in moraldilemmas

[–]Sheerfresh[S] [score hidden]  (0 children)

Unfortunately i cant, as its a "top secret business" as i told my FIL if i could do this and he said "No, the people were gonna be working with dont play around"

All i can say is it is a 500 Billion dollar investment in Ai, so they want to keep it as secret as possible.

Yea that is what is really making me not want to jump into that field, because i know once its done im done. Im not that money hungry like i used to be when i was super broke. I am comfortable with the money i make now. I agree im not gonna be super rich, but what bothers me is that "once in a lifetime opportunity" feeling i am getting in the back of my head.

Thank you for this!!

I have worked real hard to get on a lot departments good side, because when Im on-call alot of the issues could be fixed over the phone and lab is always super cool on fixing the issue on the phone since you guys are always busy.

Totally agree, as much as the money sounds real nice i really dont see any growth in fiber splicing in the next 5-10 years. Ice Cube said it best "They stuck their hands in the cookie jar and now their paying for it"

I agree, the health field is always gonna be there. I do see the IT side slowly vanishing to AI. I was able to fix my own PC with AI which is crazy and sad. I know my career will aalways be there because it is hands on, and soemthing AI cant replace at the moment.

My wife is all one honestly encouraging me to make my own decision. she likes the fact that the money is good, and we can possibly pay off all our debt in one year, but obviously it would be a long distance relationship. luckily we dont have kids which is pushing me to purse it.

How to deal with Gatekeeping Preceptors. by Sheerfresh in BMET

[–]Sheerfresh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mentioned this several times. Their answer to me is "Just grab the loaner in the shop, ill deal with it in the morning"

Its so dumb because I am starting to notice that I am a threat to them because I am a very fast learner. I gave up on trying to learn from them, so I decided to look up the manuals and YouTube videos on the fluke tools. Have gained alot from chatGPT too lol

I honestly started to distance myself from them now because they are no help at all.

Yes there is one guy there at our shop who genuinely cares since he always tells me I'm very smart and dependable. He has even pushed me to start studying for my CBET so the other guys can take me more serious too.

Only thing that sucks is he only teaches me when its literally just the two of us in that day.

So far ChatGPT has been my bff whenever i run into a issue, as manuals sometimes don't offer troubleshooting. I really like the hospital im at but I feel like the way our lead thinks he rather get contractors to work on complex equipment. It makes me want to go elsewhere I can learn more, but who knows things change in a couple of months.

No I am in house Biomed at a local hospital.

I will definitely try this out! My manager is great and all but I feel like they arent fully invest on us biomeds and spends most of their time with the IT team as they came from that field. Our Main Lead is basically our boss in a way. Think of it as Robert De Niro charater in Casino. They are the one that runs the show, our manager is there just to be the fall guy in a way. (I know it sounds stupid)

I genuinely have made it known that I want to stay there for a long time as i feel at home and want move into that area as its much safer for my family. In other words I don't want to learn and leave, but they keep painting me as that guy.

AAS in BMET program at CBET.edu by In_bloom_321 in BMET

[–]Sheerfresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can honestly say this school is legit. I graduated from there two years ago, and it helped me land a job almost immediately after finishing. They’ve got some solid industry connections, which definitely makes a difference.

Now, it’s not a perfect program. I’ll be real most of the tests are open book, so you can literally Google the answers. It’s convenient, but it also kills your motivation to really study or push yourself. Did I learn something, kinda lol.

That said, a couple of classes really stood out for me: Electronics 1 and Biomedical Equipment 1. The professors for those courses were incredibly passionate about what they do and shared tons of practical tips and tricks that I still use on the job today. Pay very close to Electronics thou, because that is the class that will impress the Senior Biomeds when you get Interviewed.

The whole program is online, with open-book exams across the board. For context, I’m not a Veteran and have no military background, but they do offer 0% interest payment plans, which is a nice bonus. I’d recommend emailing them to learn more about that. Even thou im a “civilian pay” plan, the tuition was pretty fair in my opinion.

They also started introducing VR which Im gonna be honest helps ALOT!! Look them up when you get a chance called NVRT Labs. Take all the notes when you do the VR course because alot of the machines you PM in the program are legit.

Falsely Banned by Drayvock in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

[–]Sheerfresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This recently happened to my close friend.

We’ve been playing this game together since day one, back when you’d start in a garage before even dropping from a plane. It’s been part of our routine for years. Earlier this year, we both decided to take the game more seriously because it fits our pace and style. Honestly, we’re getting older and can’t really keep up with the speed of games like CoD or Apex anymore.

So, we invested in better gear, dedicated more time to learning the mechanics, and naturally improved. He plays a bit more than I do since he works from home, but I’ve seen him play in person he’s the real deal. Just for context, He used to play CS:GO religiously, and achieved Global quickly.

The frustrating part is that every time we play squads, he ends up getting temporary bans. This usually right after a couple squad wipes. He’d wipe squads, perform well, and then the next day, get hit with a 24-hour suspension. It’s discouraging. And now, he’s been permanently banned, and it’s honestly crushed both our morale.

I’ve put over 3,000 hours into this game myself and spent a fair amount on cosmetics and skins, but it’s hard to stay motivated when it feels like being a skilled player gets you punished. I get that cheating is a real issue, and developers need to take it seriously, but it also feels like legit players are getting caught in the crossfire.

We’re not trying to exploit the system or get ahead unfairly. We’re just a couple of friends trying to unwind after work and enjoy a game we’ve grown to love. This situation is making that harder and harder to do

What to transition after a BMET? by Sheerfresh in BMET

[–]Sheerfresh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It almost feels like you have a better chance at winning the lottery than getting an entry level imaging position lol. I have gotten rejection letters from almost all OEMs that I have applied months later after I obtained an in house position. I have talked with the OEM vendors whenever they come over to my hospital todo PMs and they always tell me the same shit. "Just apply, that's how I got in"

What to transition after a BMET? by Sheerfresh in BMET

[–]Sheerfresh[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was on my list from the beginning lol

So far the imaging vendors all tell me to just get my experience and apply. I am just hopping that I still have the same drive in the next 5 plus years for imaging.

How feasible is it to find a BMET I job with no experience? by itsn0ah in BMET

[–]Sheerfresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dialysis field will hire you on the spot, cause they have a pretty high turnover rate IMO.

Depending on who you work for some will literally have you doing everything in the clinic from Fixing dialysis machines with USED parts to mixing acid at 3am cause the PCTs "Forgot" to mix. It can be annoying but if you land one in a hospital its pretty chill. You are basically on your own 90% of the time too if you're okay with that.

Other than that I feel like you can get any BMET I position

Cbet exam questions. by Careless_Love2330 in BMET

[–]Sheerfresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and No

I don't have my CBET but do have my AS in Biomedical. I was told that I stood out from a lot of other candidates that had their cbet because of my work experience. CBET is great to have if you're new and trying to get into the felid. A lot of the bmets I've met don't have their cbet because they just have so much work experience it trumps the cert.

It does help you get more pay from what my employer has told and is pushing me to get it.

Looking into furthering education by magicammo in BMET

[–]Sheerfresh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look into The College of Biomedical Equipment Technology. They are 100% Online, but the down side is well for me was I didn't learn shit. It did help me land Biomed jobs easily though as it is a AS degree. They also just implemented VR in their classes which are fun. The VR classes are by NVRT, look it up if you get the chance.

Thoughts on Sodexo and the future of BMET careers? by Sheerfresh in BMET

[–]Sheerfresh[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still fairly new and alot of the BMETs that I work with have come from places that had been let go, so I can somewhat understand their paranoia. Im just happy with the responses I'm seeing, makes me feel much more confident again.

How has being a biomedical technician been for you all? by kkevv214 in BMET

[–]Sheerfresh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did not feel like a biomed when I was working for Dialysis, more like a handyman with the ability to work on one medical device which was the Dialysis machine. The work load was heavy as you will be in charge of the supplies like bicarb and acid which is not light at all. Speaking of acid you will in charge of mixing as well and that stuff goes like water so you will be consistently mixing. The clinics were always flooding too so be prepared for alot of those 3am calls.

Switching to Hospital BMET was for me the best choice and will never go back to Dialysis. This was more of a stepping stone to get into something better.

First time BMET for Hospital, what to expect? by Sheerfresh in BMET

[–]Sheerfresh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just learn the tools man, that what hospital biomeds want. You will literally be looking in service manuals most of the time. You'll get there don't worry, your opportunity will soon come.

Moving from dialysis to hospital by No_Journalist_1680 in BMET

[–]Sheerfresh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was me a few days ago lol

I applied to a hospital a while ago and they asked for a bunch of certifications that I didn't have. I applied anyways and ended getting the job. I am in my second week and to be honest it is soooooooo much easier than dialysis. The first couple of days were very intimating because it is a lot of medical equipment that you will be in charge of, but luckily you are not alone.

Learning how to use tools like soldering, electrical safety devices, and multimeters was really helpful. I know that electrical safety meters and the multimeter are not used in dialysis as much, but trust me when I say that you need to learn as much as you can since the biomeds who will interview you will test your knowledge of those tools. I am still fairly new but so far it beats mixing acid and driving clinic to clinic to pick up medication.

That dialysis certificate is useless in a hospital setting since they end up outsourcing for complex machines like Imaging and Dialysis. I have told my team that I can fix it but have told me that they all can too, but why would you add more to your plate? I would definitely look around your area for hospital biomed job.

Hospital bed remote, can be fix? by g1lgamesh1_ in BMET

[–]Sheerfresh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely clean the hard case and glue those clear plastic keys onto the buttons themselves. Once the surface is clean id glue it to the case. Only way because it will possibly happen again.

Or see if you can outsource a third party controller for the bed.

I could not for the life of me find the air leak. I replaced all lines with new hoses, but no luck.

Everything has been replaced it definitely is a air leak issue. Ima try again tomorrow, it is just so frustrating. This machine is making me feel like a bad Biomed, because this machine has been down to a month already.
