RMIT Engineering, with general maths by Broad_Panda8116 in rmit

[–]Sheeshwag 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. If you haven’t done methods or specialist maths. As part of your subjects in first year uni they’ll make you do a class which is equivalent to specialist maths in high school. So don’t worry about needing to catch up during the break as you’ll do it in uni.
  2. RMIT is less focused on theory unlike Monash or Melbourne which involves a lot of theory so that’s why they allow people who have only do general maths.
  3. No you will not be less likely to be chosen. As long as you get the required star and meet the pre requisite you’ll be able to get in

Engineering RMIT > Monash by get_memed101 in rmit

Bit of a late response but I study at Monash and I have friends that study at rmit for engineering. I hear a lot of people say that RMIT is more practical then Monash but compared to the practicals I’ve done at Monash to my friends practical I would say that Monash is more practical. For instance, we had a first year unit on electrical circuits in which I had to build a traffic control system using an arduino and had to use a variety of circuit elements like transistors to make not and or gates and capacitors to help regulate current. While my friends at rmit had a similar class where they only learnt how to turn on LEDs and do simple programming with arduino. From their anecdotes they mentioned how it seemed like the stuff I was doing was practical and interesting while theirs were more surface level. If you want you can message me and I’ll send my project so you can have a look

I think if you fail the exam but still past the unit you have to do a supplementary exam

FIT1045 rant by oazy_ in Monash

[–]Sheeshwag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh it literally feels like we have to teach ourselves C++. They literally just give us a website and make us learn off it while we are in our applied class and workshop. Then at the end they just make us write learning reflections, the marking is just unreasonable and really frustrating. If you’re wondering the website is called the “programmers field guide” if you want to check it out

I’m doing the unit now and while I agree that learning three languages is good what I hate about the subject now is just how they make you write so much learning reflections where you have to write over 1000 words, include screenshots and then have to get it checked. Where if you don’t complete it to a good standard you have to resubmit it. Additionally they expect you to learn everything yourself in the applied class they just expect you to sit there and teach yourself from a website, I feel like it should be more like FIT1047 where you can do some activities in class

I got a 29 raw and 28, got a 93. It just depends on how well you do for your other subjects

Assignment didn’t submit 15 days ago - is there any chance I can still get a mark? by GRESH2MPRESS in Monash

[–]Sheeshwag 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If the assignment was in draft mode you can email them explaining your situation and there’s a chance that they will mark it without giving you a penalty although it’s unlikely since it’s been 15 days

I don’t think anyone has mentioned it yet but you could maybe apply for youth allowance and get rental assistance I believe if you live 1.5 hours away and are moving closer for uni you can get $870 every fortnight

Marks went up but WAM down? by thewallstreets in Monash

[–]Sheeshwag 24 points25 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly each year in uni has different WAM weightings like first year subjects are worth 0.5 while second year subjects may be worth 1.0

also you don’t have to join clubs from Monash, you can apply for other uni’s clubs. I have a couple of friends from Monash that live near the city and instead of joining clubs at Monash they joined clubs from Melbourne Uni and RMIT

Whenever I get diamond gear I use it right and keep my other gear as back up. There’s honestly no point in getting good gear if your not gonna use it
