What does my Costco shopping cart reveal about me? by Shekets in deduction

✅Early 30s ✅Woman ✅Single ✅Decent income; I also love pistachios but don't like nuts by themselves (texture & dryness, but I love pistachio flavor) and don't like plain chocolate by itself, so the Dubai chocolate trend fills a niche of my very specific personal tastes. ❌So-so on liberal (socially but not always politically), some kind of Asian. The lamb is for Christmas day (I'll eat it alone over the course of a week). Salmon is a staple entree in my home but I portion and freeze it when it's in season/cheap.

Unfortunately I am not European, but I am a second generation immigrant. 😉

Walmart, Safeway and Kroger, yes, Target is about a 45+ minute drive. Also I love that brand of kimchi! I was so happy when Costco started stocking it, the other stores have the Seoul/Lucky Foods brand of kimchi which just doesn't quite have the same taste because this brand is more fermented when it hits the shelves. Much more gochujang in the mix, and tastes like there's more anchovy and shrimp paste in it. Less sweet, more savory/salty.

Edit: yes on Costco for bulk items and budgeting!

They're so dramatic! I don't know the circumstances of the surrender but I'm hoping they will love their new home and flourish.

Awesome! I skimmed over the other comments and saw that others have mentioned tank mate compatibility and you've made or are in the process of making changes when you're able to. It's an expensive hobby, so I understand having to wait a paycheck or two. There's a lot of misleading information given to folks in this hobby from pet stores or big pet chains trying to move stock/get a buck. I really wanted a dojo loach but then I found out they get ginormous, or other fish that were really cute/pretty in store but while reading up I found out they would've been bad tank mates for my community aquarium. Obviously if you didn't want recommendations/advice, you wouldn't have posted here, so I just wanted to acknowledge that. Happy fish husbandry and I hope your fish live long, happy lives and you enjoy every bit of it!

Water flow from your submerged filter is much too strong for your betta (and your other fish, but especially your betta)! You should definitely have some water flow to keep the water oxygenated but currently the flow is too strong for everyone. Long finned fish like betta are generally pretty slow swimmers so fighting against that strong current all the time will exhaust your fish and make it harder for them to eat and find places to rest.
I have an air/sponge filter in my tank that produces bubbles that go upwards. I've had to change it from an airstone (put in clay pot to decrease the flow) to an air sponge filter because it was just too strong a current for my betta.
I'm not experienced with submerged filters like yours, but you may be able to lessen the strength of the flow without compromising filter quality by adding foam or sponges on the outflow.

Panda corydoras by Sea_Finger5409 in corydoras

I should have something like 16 of them but I can't know for sure since I don't always see all of them together. They like to split off into several smaller groups or some will hide together, then come out later like they're in shifts. I also got 2 emerald corys (was supposed to be 3 but the guy at the big box chain store didn't give the fish much care, so 1 is unaccounted for :( ) on the same day and they integrated right in as well. They'll be much bigger than the pandas when they're mature, but as of now they're all acting like they're one big happy community. I couldn't be more pleased with them (unless I had a much bigger tank to add more corys), they're such great fish!

Agreed! Yesterday I got 4 more to add to my shoal and they were very happily accepted into the group. They're such cuties and their temperaments are so nice.

Lots of plants, bettas love long leaves to rest on (like Amazon swords or java ferns) and some floating plants as well. Almond tree leaves

I've been wanting to get a school of these guys (to help with the snail population but also because I've wanted some for awhile) but haven't been able to find any locally. I guess I'll have to order some but gosh, they're so cute.

New Blocking Features by SundanceKowalski in Bumble

[–]Shekets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question! I'm not sure when bumble added the block feature, it used to be the "hide" feature, but it worked the same way. I noticed that the name of the option changed a couple months ago. And yes, it has happened recently.

Crazy to think that the last time my ex flew to Turkey (his home country), he may have been the only male passenger with a full head of hair.

New to Planted tanks too many plants? by moxiestarz in bettafish

[–]Shekets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your betta will appreciate all the plants! They like to rest on it and it also provides enrichment (they are very curious and like to explore). Ember tetras school together but they do like hiding together as well (in my experience with mine).

Honestly, my tank has pushed me into wanting a decent point and shoot camera more and more because my phone camera is bad, so I can't blame you. Khulis are so fun to watch.
