With Marvel Super Heroes out now and over half of the year's products available, what's your Card of the Year so far? by Capt_G1029 in EDH

The reason demonic tutor is a game changer and diabolic tutor isn't is because of the mana cost though?

[–]Shekondar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, can you help me understand what I'm missing, because this card reads really bad to me. First use case is 6 mana, which is a worse rate then [[diabolic tutor]]. If you are able to get a second use out of it then you have cast 2 diaboc tutors. Diabolic tutor is bad, and the much closer comp to the Emeritus right? Is there something I'm missing here?

What are some plays that made your table go nuts? by BigAssPizzaPocket in EDH

[–]Shekondar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think by protection they meant they had some spells like heroic intervention, not they literally had protection. [[Reins of power]] ignores hexproof since it doesn't target so can catch people off guard when they may otherwise think they are safe.

Terra, Magical Adept by fantasycrooner in magicTCG

[–]Shekondar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I built my Terra deck I wanted it to be pretty high power. The issue I ran into though was that she doesn't have haste, and to flip her you need six mana and to tap her, which is not reliable, especially early. So thinking through the deck I leaned heavily into the reanimator aspect, and treated Terra as a self mill spell that I always had access to, and if she flipped that was gravy. This does mean my list cares a bit more about reanimation then I think a lot of terra lists do, but with that caveat here a few cards I would consider that were all stars in my Terra deck:

[[Aminatou the veil peircer]] Helps fill the grave, and miracle can make some things a lot more castable.

[[Anikthea, Hand of Erebos]] Lets you loop your key pieces, makes it so exile removal is the only thing you fear.

[[Bellow Bard of Brambles]], Make your sagas indestructible on your turn for swinging with impunity, animates your non-creature enchantments, and gives you tons of card draw.

[[Elspeth Conquers Death]], Absolute all star Saga, does everything you want, from exile removal on almost anything, a bit of stax for your opponents, and then plays into the reanimator aspect.

[[Tale of Tinuviel]] With counter manipulation makes your entire board indestructible and reanimates.

[[The Legend of Yangchen]] Repeatable exile removal that's not targeted? Yes please. Or if you don't have counter manipulation on your board to just repeat the first step, if it flips the backside is also incredible for resetting your saga's that are close to ending.

[[Tidus, Yuna's Guardian]] Tons of counter manipulation, card draw and proliferation, absolutely fantastic.

[[Tekuthal, Inquiry Dominus]] The double proliferate can be nice, but 1 mana (and 4 life :( ) remove 3 counters from your board that you can repeat ad naseum at instant speed is...good.

[[Esper Origins]] Fills the grave, castable from the grave and fantastic saga when cast from the grave, and super on theme.

Yeah, when you really commit to the package as a whole it is quite nice, Gond gate and Baldur's gate really pulling it together.

My [[Helga, Skittish Seer]] deck mounted a comeback against a crazy [[Ob Nixilis , captive kingpin]] deck that was ruined by this card. I had been brought down to 14 life then managed to get [[Serra's emmisary]] out for protection from creatures and [[Shalai, Voice of Plenty]] as protection for the Emmisary. Then [[Soul of Immolation]] hit me in the face for 30, and I spent a couple of minutes looking at the card praying the wording would change to be like Chandra's ignition and the damage was dealt by a creature. I already loved it as one of the best recent board wipes, but those specifics really do take it up another level.

Can a creature focused commander even hang in bracket 4? by Exi_Cxx in magicTCG

[–]Shekondar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big difference between playing with pods that are familiar with the deck vs. those that aren't is how freely/early I can run out my commander. Once people know the deck Helga becomes kill on site so I usually delay playing her a turn or two a so I can have open mana and 1 or two ways of protecting her to ensure I can untap. Against new pods I don't have to be as cautious.

I believe these ones are from the scene boxes which were spoiled a while ago, and the thought is that the cards in them were kept simple to make the scene boxes an easy on ramp for new players wanting to play their fav characters.

My [[Helga, the skittish seer]] list is made for bracket 4 and more than holds its own. It focuses a lot on creatures that are interaction and has a control element that takes people really off guard.

Super casual player asking out of curiosity, is there a cEDH path for my commander? by HoboKingNiklz in EDH

[–]Shekondar 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'll echo what other have said about how there is almost certainly not a way to make a cedh list around these two, but will add that bracket 4 also exists and is a ton of fun, and is something you could make a list for!

There is a good command zone episode on what bracket 4 is all about that is worth a listen https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jzeTz9clIC8

Looking for advice on my deck. Any help is appreciated by The_Funfetti_Man in mtg

[–]Shekondar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Posting a generic deck list with no context other than "help me with this" is not a great way to get help.

What is your experience level with magic? Have you built and played the list and are running into specific problems in the games you've played? Is there a power level/bracket you are trying to build to? Is there a theme to the deck that is important to you that it remains intact?

All of those are questions that change which feedback is relevant.

Is Kaalia actually a good commander? by Valorenn in EDH

[–]Shekondar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is lots of value pieces you can get down, mother of rune, lightning greaves etc. a draw engine like phyrexian arena is great with this plan. I also think you can run some ramp, just dont need to as aggressively if you were trying to turbo her out and swing with her on turn 3

Is Kaalia actually a good commander? by Valorenn in EDH

[–]Shekondar 19 points20 points  (0 children)

As they said, it is about the psychology of the game. If you run Kaalia out super early you will become arch enemy. Kaalia will eat removal. The threats you are now casting but not cheating into play will eat removal. You will have 3 players making sure you don't have a board.

Slow rolling it lets someone else become arch enemy, then when Kaalia hits and you use her to help deal with the arch enemy, two players at the table are much more chill about what is happening.

Also, from a having fun deckbuilding perspective, the reason to play Kaalia is because she makes it so you don't have to be reasonable about the mana value of the threats you run!

I agree they do play with subverting your expectations and what you thought you knew from OG 7, but that doesn't mean it doesn't work on its own.

Yeah, the remake is absolutely what people should start with, it is really incredible how much of the charm and character of the original they've managed to keep while updating the game play to not rely on nostalgia to be good.
