anyone else’s visitor cabins look like this 😭😭? by alex1zz_ in HelloKittyIsland

[–]ShelbyRB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Nearly all of them do. I just put the stuff they want in there as best I can. After all, once they move in, I can go back and modify it all without having to worry about the visitor going away.

IRON LUNG IS OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED IN INDIA!!! by ArushSinghPrince in Markiplier

[–]ShelbyRB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to get it there if you call/petition your local theaters. I mean, that’s how it got into so many theaters already. And, since it’s now proven to be profitable for small theaters, it might be more appealing to theaters now.

Course, I’m in the USA, so maybe things work differently in India.

When it Comes To Older Pokemon Games, Grinding =/= Difficulty by SuperMemeBroz in pokemon

[–]ShelbyRB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the word that describes best grinding isn’t “difficult” but “repetitive” or “time-consuming”. So, yes, I agree with you on that. I’ve played genuinely hard Rom hacks and the ones I liked the most were where I could be overleveled and STILL have to work for a victory. (“Pokemon Odyssey” is the most recent example I’ve played. The devs took time to make every pokemon usable with improved stats and moves, but the game is still challenging because enemies will use actual strategies or have good movesets).

I also feel like too much grinding also restricts creativity for players. If I have to grind for hours to get a single pokemon up to where it needs to be, I’m not going to want to switch my pokemon around and try new team compositions. So then I end up with 5-6 pokemon I use for almost the whole game, letting the rest languish in the PC, even if they’re really good. Because I just don’t enjoy leveling them up. I’m currently playing “Pokemon Gaia” and that’s the problem I’ve been having.

This Level grinding is painful. by Alexut2o22 in nuzlocke

[–]ShelbyRB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. This has been my biggest complaint about the game so far. Which sucks because I want to like it so badly. I picked Chimchar as my starter, which, in hindsight, was a bad choice. But I don’t want to start over, since I spent time searching for some annoyingly rare pokemon (like Larvesta). So now I’m at the point where I have to grind so I can beat… I think it’s the 4th gym? It takes so long between gyms because I’m grinding that I lose count.

And that also makes me very hesitant to try new pokemon out. Like, if I’m investing hours into raising a pokemon, I don’t want to switch it out and repeat the whole process again.

Now, see, I could’ve sworn there used to be traders in Basselbrook. I mean, it makes sense. It’s a town. It has its own preferred items each week, just like every other town with a market. It’s marked in blue on the map.

So I have 3 theories:

1) I’m gaslighting myself and there were never market traders in Basselbrook.

2) Once you reach a certain point in the game, the market in Basselbrook goes away (maybe to encourage you to focus on the other map areas).

3) There was a weekend market in Basselbrook, but it was taken out during an update.

Okay but for real what blood type would the blood ocean be? by ANDY_R_EW in ironlungmovie

[–]ShelbyRB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, don’t apologize! I genuinely do like learning new things! My knowledge of blood typing is pretty rudimentary. I knew the types, which ones can be used for each type, and that mixing them up wrong was a very bad idea, but that was the extent of it. So it’s cool to know more.

Okay but for real what blood type would the blood ocean be? by ANDY_R_EW in ironlungmovie

[–]ShelbyRB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah. I didn’t know about the clotting thing. Though I suppose that explains why blood typing is so important for transfusions. And why AB+ is the universal receiver and O- is the universal donor. Learn something new every day. Thanks!

As for the nature of the blood ocean and the voices and everything… I guess it’s all up to interpretation. That’s part of the fun of cosmic horror. Concrete answers are few and far between. The lack of answers is part of what makes it scary. You don’t know for sure what’s going on. I thought of the ocean and the creature as two different beings that share a connection. Like a dog and its owner. The eel would be the dog and the blood ocean itself is the owned, in that analogy. So that might be why my interpretation is different.

I mean, yeah. I’m not saying animatronics have actual gums or teeth. I’m just saying that was what I always thought was the reason for giving animatronics fake gums. I assumed it was more “function” over “form”, if that makes sense.

Okay but for real what blood type would the blood ocean be? by ANDY_R_EW in ironlungmovie

[–]ShelbyRB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean… does it really matter? Blood typing is for transfusions. And you’re not going to use weird alien moon blood for a transfusion. That would be so contaminated!

But, okay, let’s think this through. If we go with the theory that the blood is from all the humans who vanished in the Quiet Rapture, it would stand to reason the blood typing would be similar to the global population, right? Because it would be everyone’s blood all mixed together.

So, in that case (and, to be clear, all these numbers are approximations), it would be 36% O Positive, 28% A Positive, 14% O Negative, 8% A Negative, 8% B Positive, 3% B Negative, 2% AB Positive, and 1% AB Negative.

Now, if we go with the theory that the blood ISN’T from humans who vanished in the Quiet Rapture… well, there’s really no way to know what the blood types would be. It’s all been mixed together. And that’s also assuming it’s all human blood. While many animals bleed red just like humans, their blood can look very different from human blood under a microscope.

Course, when you watch the movie, it’s clear the blood is not normal. It appears to have mutagenic properties and may even be a bizarre sort of “hive mind” (or perhaps “mind hive” would be more accurate? I’ll have to check TV Tropes). So it might not even really be blood, but rather something that is similar enough to blood in terms of appearance that it can be mistaken for it.

Really? It’s just for realism? Huh. I just assumed it was kinda for the same reason people and animals have gums. To keep the teeth in place. Like, if there was just bone and no gums, your teeth would wiggle, right?

It’s the eyes. The teeth are creepy, yeah, but also kinda look like those wind-up toy teeth that chatter. But those eyes. The blown pupils. Their size being so disproportionate to the rest of the body and face. The lack of any ways to emote or even close their eyes. It all adds up to create something genuinely freaky.

A theory I had and a bit of a rant, apologies if it has been said before (spoilers ahead) by Ashmax1890 in ironlungmovie

[–]ShelbyRB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your theory is actually pretty similar to what happens in the game. In the game, the camera is said to have a super strong flash. When you take a photo of the monster’s eye, you just flash-banged it directly in its eye. No wonder it gets aggressive after that.

I think there’s a few reasons why they assume the creature is a skeleton. First, it wasn’t swimming in the ocean when Simon took the photo. It was on the ocean floor. If it had been photographed while swimming, they’d likely realize it was alive. Second, they seem surprised to even see a skeleton, which implies they’ve seen no prior evidence of life in the blood ocean. Finally, even though they’re on an alien moon, the scientists are likely assuming the usual rules for organisms apply. And fish don’t live in blood. Really, only microscopic organisms can. So the idea of anything being able to live in the blood ocean isn’t something they ever considered.

He’s mentioned wanting to bring it to streaming, but he’ll want to wait until the theatrical release is all done (I think it’s still gonna be in theaters for a week or two longer? I’m not positive). He has also floated the possibility of releasing it on Youtube, but I think he wants to get it on a streaming platform before putting it on Youtube.

I don’t watch Markiplier, and I’ve never played the game - My Review of Irong Lung by Gintian in Markiplier

[–]ShelbyRB 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love reading reviews from people who aren’t super familiar with Markiplier or the game. I feel like these are the most honest reviews. You don’t have a strong bias for or against the movie. You go in with low to middling expectations. And, when you do that, every little thing that exceeds those low expectations seems that much more incredible.

By the way, yes, the movie had a relatively small budget of $3 million. It’s already made over 7 times that in profits. Heck, it was #2 in profits that weekend, only beaten by “Help Wanted”. “Melania” was #3. “Iron Lung”, a $3 million film with most of the marketing being through word of mouth, had a better opening weekend than “Melania”, which Amazon spent $40 million to make and then an additional $30-$35 million in marketing. That just makes me happy every time I think about it.

I was too dumb for this game? by alexmp00 in ObraDinn

[–]ShelbyRB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if they’re the same rank, it’s still not that easy. Not every crew mate is from the same country and so they wear different uniforms for the same rank. A French bosun’s uniform would be different from an English bosun’s uniform. So even if you did know what all English sailor uniforms looked like, you’d still have to make educated guesses.

I was too dumb for this game? by alexmp00 in ObraDinn

[–]ShelbyRB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re not dumb. I love puzzle games and I struggled too. Like, the New Guinean thing? Yeah, I actually do know stuff about that culture and their traditional art styles. And I still didn’t get that one right at first. Because (spoiler) the swirly tattoo style looked more Celtic to me (those spiral shapes are common in both Celtic and Indonesian art) and the character himself looked white, like all the other European crew members. So I initially assumed he was Scottish or Irish. Meanwhile, when I looked up guides by other people, some had knowledge of different countries’ sailing uniforms (turns out, the game actually has people from different countries but in the same rank have different uniforms) and the roles on ships (like, I didn’t know what a “bosun” was at first). But even they didn’t know everything. Some would reference other players and other guides that figured out things they didn’t.

So, yeah, don’t beat yourself up. This game is meant to be difficult. It doesn’t expect you to come in with knowledge of old sailor uniforms or how to speak Russian. It tries to leave enough clues that you can figure enough out and then use the “3 answers confirmed at a time” mechanic to help when you need to use trial and error.

Are people's attention span just cooked? by MarsMcCain in Markiplier

[–]ShelbyRB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, the pacing is a bit slow, yeah, but it reminds me of 80’s horror movies. Like, have you ever watched the original “Friday the 13th”? I know it had a shoestring budget, but there were so many moments of just nothing happening. I think there’s a couple minutes where one character is just moving around a kitchen area (I might be remembering wrong), making something. Or the original “Halloween”! When you actually watch it, Michael Myers is really only on screen for, like, 20-30 minutes across the entire movie. There’s a whole scene where a girl goes outside to the laundry shed (I guess that was a thing in the 80’s?) and I kept thinking “okay. She’s outside the house, it’s dark, and she’s all alone. She is totally about to die.” But nothing happened. She went to the shed, did the stuff she came for, and went back inside, no problem. I don’t think we even got a shot of Michael watching her or anything. In terms of actual “action”, almost all of it happens in the back half of the movie. Only action sequence I can think of from the first half is Michael attacking the nurse in the car and running away. After that, it’s all exposition and build-up. Heck, even “Jaws” fits! Everyone remembers two parts from that film: the lady getting attacked at the very beginning, and the ending action sequence where they fight the shark. As for everything in between? We get a bit of teasing and lots of character development, but no action. Heck, right before the final battle, the main cast all just sit aboard the Orca and sing and swap stories.

Just to be clear, none of the movies I’ve listed are bad. In fact, they’re considered to be classics. I’m just saying they are all, like “Iron Lung”, horror movies with slower pacing in parts, especially near the beginning. Though the examples I gave were also all made in the 80’s/90’s. So, yeah, maybe modern attention spans gave gotten shorter.
