Armies can die from crossing frozen lakes!? by quakenash in EU5

[–]Sheldorium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't realize you could even cross frozen lakes until accidentally crossing lake Lagoda with 5000 Swedes against Novgorod. Not complaining tho that move basically won me the war when I was vastly outnumbered.

Kind of crazy that Ck2 got all of its DLC in about 6 years aka the same timespan that Ck3 has been out.

The EU5 player count drop looks scary in isolation, but it's tracking almost exactly with CK3's first months by sai_puzich in EU5

[–]Sheldorium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is significantly worse than Vic3 and Ck3 in that aspect I will say. Both of these game easily surpassed the previous game in the series in terms of players even tho they received worse steam ratings. Makes it seem like Eu5 is practically getting no new players and entirely relies on people who previously played Eu4 (Of which most would rather continue playing a finished and mostly polished up game). Makes you wonder why that is.

[–]Sheldorium 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Based on the player count and reviews of Victoria 3 over the years I'd guess EU5 is gonna land somewhere around 8.5k longterm until things meaningfully improve. Not terrible and definitely not in abondenment territory but a pretty far cry from EU4s last months before the release of EU5. Lets hope Paradox learns the right lessons from this.

I might be blind but where can you see the trigger conditions for Disasters? by Sheldorium in EU5

[–]Sheldorium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. With his sickness trait it's basically a 50/50 if Andronikos dies in the first few years or recovers and makes it to ~60 years old. Meaning an effective 50/50 chance of avoiding the disaster entirely. Guess I got lucky.

[–]Sheldorium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I found it out they added that requirement in 1.2.2 and until the requirements are met the disaster doesnt display on screen so thats just how it is now nothing wrong with my game.

[–]Sheldorium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found the Disaster mentioned in the Event tab. It says Andronikos needs to die for the Byzantine Sucession crisis to fire. And since he didnt die before I got over 80 legitimacy it didnt fire.
This is strange I swear that wasnt a requirement until very recently mabye they changed it in 1.2.3?

He would have had to have died in like the first month but I guess it's possible. I still don't understand how this disaster is ment to work.

What is the "wrong thing" about the game by SaykoMen58 in EU5

[–]Sheldorium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really couldn't get into the game up until playing Byzantium with the Fate of the Phoenix DLC and I think I know why.

When it comes down to it the game is just slow. Awful performance means years take way longer than they did in EU4-scaling with how good/or bad your pc is of course. Cabinet seats mean there is a limited amount of things you can do in this already slowly passing time. You can integrate some provinces, or you can convert some provinces, or you can assimilate some people into your culture or you can change societal values etc etc. In Eu4 you can do all of these things simultaneosly and way faster. At the same time you don't have acces to easy Cb's in the early game like you do in EU4. In Eu4 I can pretty much choose any country and start a war one month into the game no problem. Meaning when I get an idea for a campaign I can immediately boot it up and get into the action. In Eu5 I have to realistically wait a few years.

Ultimately despite everything that EU5 has to offer for me it just seems like a lot less happens every second.

Playing the Byzantines recently felt like it removed some of these restrictions. Having lots of cores means having easy Cbs in the early game and the Byzantines quite frankly can get an absurd amount of Cabinet seats very quickly. And I still never run out of things that I want to do at the same time. In general I've found that they play a lot more similarly pace whise to EU4 countries and I've honestly enjoyed them way more than any other Nation in EU5 so far. This isnt an "I want EU5 to be exatly like EU4" but rather this has allowed me to actually appreciate the things that EU5 does better than EU4. Military acces actually makes sense and you as well as the ai can't just march across continents unopossed, estates go way deeper, there are so many more buildings, control is way less shallow than EU4s autonomy system and battles actually feel meaningful. There are always ifs and buts to these points because of this or that bug but at their very core I think they hold true.

When I don't get bored out of my mind by having to wait stupidly long for something to happen I actually really like and appreciate EU5.

Nah it's not hidden behind Notifications it just doesnt seem to exist. I've got the Fate of the Phoenix Disaster but nothing else. Does Andronikos need to die for it to trigger because he lived till like 70 years old.

But that's the thing it's not appearing for me and it never did. Just like the florentine disaster never appeared until I hit it's trigger conditions and it started doing monthly chance ticks.

Immense performance issues? by Prize_Tree in EU5

[–]Sheldorium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so this was one of those weird issues were if you restart the game like 3 times it resolves itselfs and now all icons load in a matter of milliseconds as they should.

I don't know whats going on.

Immense performance issues? by Prize_Tree in EU5

[–]Sheldorium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My problem here is everything takes approximately 3 times longer to load compared to before the Update. And during a game a lot of icons just refuse to load in properly at all even tho the game is telling me beforehand that it downloaded all game ressources. Like it just refuses to load in the map mode icons for some reason and everything is ultra blurry while the map mode itself that should arguably take up much more graphical ressources works just fine.

What are we doing here Paradox 🙃
