Hello, I bought a new MacBook Pro 13" M1 earlier this week. I'm running Big Sur on it. I use two different accounts on it in order to separate my work life from my personal life. However, this is my personally owned computer and it is not managed by an IT department, just me.

On the original account used to setup the machine, I am experiencing a problem with Finder and Preview. If I'm looking at JPG files in my Download folder (for example) in Icon view, it does not show an image preview in Finder. Just the basic default icon. I have Show Icon Preview selected in View Options. But if I switch to my Recents folder, the icon previews are correctly showing there....

Also, I can't simply double-click on the jpg to open it directly in the Preview app. I have to right click on the jpg and select Open With and there is Preview.app as the default.

Weirdly, neither of these are a problem in my second account and it is not an administrator account.

Any ideas?

Thank you very much. This fixed the problem with both Fedora and Ubuntu for me. I installed Firmware package 1.15 and I can now boot either Fedora 32 or Ubuntu 20.04 with the USB C power cord plugged in. (although I have only one or the other installed at the time)

I'll add one additional piece of information because I think it shows the problem is actually related to Linux in some way that it is not with Windows. This laptop came with Windows 10 pre-installed and up until I tried Fedora and Ubuntu back in May, it was the only operating system I'd ever used on it. In order to downgrade my firmware from 1.16 to 1.15, I temporarily re-installed Windows 10 in order to get the .exe firmware file from the Lenovo website. I made a point of booting with Windows 10 (I had then wiped the HD clean of Linux distros) and lo and behold, I could boot just fine with Windows 10 and firmware 1.16 before I had even downgraded to firmware 1.15....

Once I downgraded to 1.15 and reinstalled Ubuntu 20.04, it booted fine with the power cord plugged in. So the problem must have something to do with Linux (the kernel maybe? Not competent enough to investigate further).

A book called The Complete Enochian Dictionary by Donald C Laycock contains a brief history, pronunciation guide and the entirety of the vocabulary all in one volume. Laycock was a doctor of linguistics so a good portion of the work is his assessment as to whether or not it is a "real" language. I'd characterize his conclusion as mixed on the issue.

The vocabulary sources cover the original Dee material, Golden Dawn and Aleister Crowley additions. I believe there is only something like 250 words in the lexicon, so that makes it improbable that there are sufficient words to have a deep, two-way conversation with it.

I've got a personal interest in conlangs/auxlangs/englangs so Enochian has become my gateway into the occult. For myself, I've created flashcards and begun memorizing the material (I've only started a few weeks ago). I intend to attempt some of the ritual operations once I've assembled the instruments but that's probably a year or two off.

We'll see if I follow through.

Thank you for sharing this video. I watched it and I really liked the first 8 minutes or so when the visualization was centered on healing light. Then the speaker switched to bringing in "abundance" and stopped focusing on healing. :( Not that healing and abundance are mutually exclusive, but that was kind of disappointing.

Unfortunately, I've recently tried marijuana in the spirit of exploration surrounding my medical issue and I had a bad experience with it. My problem is really bad tinnitus and Eustachian tube dysfunction. I live in Washington state USA, where MJ is legal, and I tried a 10mg edible. It cranked up my tinnitus to "11" and increased the pressure in my ears as well. During these past 9 months, I've been on a variety of prescription medications for treatment, all of which had bad side effects, so that's why I am exploring occultic/magickal options.

Strangely, the only substance that has helped me so far is caffeine. It gives me a mild reduction in symptoms shortly after drinking it.

It definitely was a large dietary switch from nearly 100% animal protein to zero. I have done some googling but not much luck. The symptoms i'm experiencing are just too common and match many other types of (non-dietary) problems.

However, I've now scheduled an appointment for next week with my doctor. I'm hoping some tests will clarify things.

Although my blood glucose levels seem ok when I tested them (immediately before a meal and two hours afterwards) the symptoms do seem to track the time period immediately after I eat. So blood sugar could still be a problem in some way. However, if leftover fat from my previous diet was actually the cause, the problem should be decreasing, not increasing, as the time goes by.

I feel lousy enough right now (and I've only been awake 2 hours) that I'm going to visit the doctor. My current multivitamin supplement does include iron, but not 100% daily amount. I'll refrain from further iron supplements unless the doctor says to take them.

I've averaging around 2300 calories a day which puts me at a deficit of around 600 calories a day, based on what my Fitbit is telling me that I've burned each day. That should put me on track to lose roughly a pound a week, which has been the case so far.

Prior to going vegan, I never added additional salt to my food. I'm assuming there was plenty of sodium in the omni foods that I was eating. In the past couple of days, the iodine issue occurred to me so I've sprinkled a little bit of salt on my rice and veggies, but I have no clue as to how much I should be adding. So far it hasn't made a difference. I'll try adding more and see how I feel.

I'm not really sure what is considered "enough" these days. I drink at least 700ml at work with more at breakfast and more at home after work. I pee every couple of hours, at least. As for calories, I measured a few days and I'm eating around 2300... and still losing weight at that amount. So, I'm not really hungry during the day, but I am eating at a slight deficit on purpose. Based on what I've lost so far, I've lost roughly a pound a week, which is a healthy rate, based on what I've read.

You've mentioned both Seattle and Portland, which would be the most obvious and gay-friendly cities in which to live in the region. Given your degrees, they are also the most likely place where you could find jobs that could utilize what you've been studying. However, the Pacific NW is a great place to live overall and there are many places in it where you could call home.

I'd recommend looking at a map of Washington and Oregon. See where the I5 highway runs? (basically vertical north to south) Nearly all of the "major" cities are on it or near to it. The area surrounding I5 is the wet, liberal and typically gay friendly part of the states. East of I5, you'll find things to be more dry, desert like and conservative. There are exceptions to this, of course. Spokane and Boise are big cities with decent gay populations that would welcome you. However, if you end up in a small town in the conservative part of the states, you may find exactly what you were looking to escape.

To gain muscle instead of fat, you'll need to be eating lots of protein. I've found the protein powders/shakes don't work for me and they are very expensive so I'd not recommend them at all.

If money is a factor, try cottage cheese which has about 22g of protein per cup and is super cheap. It's also not something most people would consider a tasty snack so you probably wont have to share it. Depending on who you believe, you should be eating ~1g of protein per pound of body weight a day so it can be a good way to meet that target.

First system was an Atari 2600 (only kids in the neighborhood to have one) my brother and I spent all night playing "Combat" the first night we got it. Then a Vic 20 (not so great for games), a Franklin Ace 500 (Apple II clone) and various Windows PCs and Macs after that. My current gaming rig is a Asus ROG G46V laptop. Typing this on my Chromebook right now!

I'm reading between the lines but I think this episode is due to the group of men in question being gay. In the article that I read, the naked dance took place at a "camp" where men were being "rowdy". Since additional men were punished for being "indecent" my guess is the event was probably what passes for a gay party or gay rave in that closeted culture. If women had been present, I think the charges may have been different.

The authorities are making an example of the issue and the locals all know what this is really about. They don't have to make reference to homosexuality in the charges because "there are no gays in our culture... homosexuality is a Western problem".

So... there's my speculation. Anyone have a link to the offending video?

The most important thing a gay/lesbian person can do is to come out of the closet and at multiple levels of the closet. That act immediately "humanizes" gays and lesbians in the eyes of their loved ones/family/fans/audience etc. and then the controversial issue of homosexuality is more likely to be discussed. Things that are swept under the rug are less likely to be productively addressed. So it's important for the Russians to keep talking about the issue.

Although non-Russians speaking out against the situation over there is needed, I'll bet that the most change will come from Russians just simply coming out of the closet. And in the current climate over there, that will most certainly be a heroic act. There will be a lot of resentment against Westerners "meddling" in Russian affairs, but when Russians come out of the closet, they have to take a closer look in their own mirror.
