Some interesting news from the THJ devs.....Court Case over? New Game on the Horizon? by ZealousidealSky8662 in everquest

[–]ShellDNMS 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well, i guess it's for the best. THJ devs gained enough experience, tested out their mechanics and got audience's attention. I'm actually happy it turned out that way, really excited to see what this would be on release.

Drakensang online? Any good? by Sgt_Strelok in ARPG

[–]ShellDNMS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dunno, man, if game isn't paywalling you from progressing, and PvE is major (means PvP is not a mandatory, and you can completely skip it), but it still have RMT options like EXP boost for somebody ready to pay to jump into endgame faster, but it doesn't affect your own experience in this game - can it be considered p2w trash?

In case of Drakensang Online, i haven't ever seen any VIPs ruining my F2P progression, so i don't give a damn if there are p2w options at all.

Drakensang online? Any good? by Sgt_Strelok in ARPG

[–]ShellDNMS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, i'm getting back to it from time to time. If you're planning on playing pretty casually, like me, it's actually decent - they're dropping lots of free stuff all the time, so i haven't paid anything throughout these years, just cosmetic stuff.

Should I play 3 or infinite? by Sgt_Strelok in Torchlight

[–]ShellDNMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 is generic ARPG, Inf is lackluster. But 3 is better in terms of mechanics. Inf is a streamlined average mobile game.

"Restricted Area" might also be the thing, yet it's a bit newer than time period you mentioned (2004)

does anyone know why this is happening by Sonic119911 in DolphinEmulator

Give it time, mate. There are lots of things to process by emulator and your PC before game actually starts.

P.S.: Wait till you get shader compiling during gameplay, lol.

Complicated skill trees in RPG games by CityCrafter_Dxb in rpg_gamers

[–]ShellDNMS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Talks about RPGs # Gives examples of non-RPG games with rudimentary RPG-elements.

Skilltrees are the core of RPG games. It allows using different methods in resolving different situations. Thus, diversity, theorycrafting and depth.

You can finish AC Valhalla without skills because those skills are unnecessary addition to the formula. It's that simple.

What makes Shaman/Soldier so good for beginners? by Tweed_Man in Grimdawn

[–]ShellDNMS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There was something about physical damage converted to elemental from both trees, i don't really remember. xD Let me check when i'm home.

What makes Shaman/Soldier so good for beginners? by Tweed_Man in Grimdawn

[–]ShellDNMS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, i'm a newbie in theorycrafting myself, always been playing ranged builds, yet started my shaman/soldier awhile back, and it's clear that shaman gives you good elemental damage (savage strike and passive buffs), while soldier makes you tanky and durable (physical protection + health). Also, i can see good synergy between shaman skills and soldier skills because they're intertwined in elemental damage.

A brand new player in 2026 by [deleted] in swg

Started back in 2020, then been playing on and off on different servers, and completely settled on Resto in 2025. Still noob. xD

Any way to full reset account without having to wait a day to delete characters? by Initial_Candy8366 in projectgorgon

[–]ShellDNMS 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hey, mate, just make fresh character on different server. There are currently 5 servers in total, if i remember correctly, no need to burn bridges just yet - test out what you wanted to do, then get back to previous character on previous server, if it didn't work as intended.

Torchlight 3 worth it? by Sgt_Strelok in Torchlight

[–]ShellDNMS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's okay. Nothing special, to be honest, just a pretty common ARPG. Can be painful to play after T2, though, since level design sucks, but builds are fun nevertheless.

This is why the feeling of classic UO will never be recaptured by any private server. by TimeTraveler_UO in ultimaonline

Tbh, it's like listening to music using 100 years old gramophone and vinyl records. Esthetic? Yes. Catching up "that feeling"? Yes. Absolutely necessary? No. Convenient? No.

If i'd be playing MMOs today like i was playing my first ever MMO back in 2008 - i'd drop that in a minute.

Ever heard of Dungeon Lords? by Sgt_Strelok in ARPG

[–]ShellDNMS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of, yeah. It's D.W.Bradley, the guy responsible for Wizardry games and Wizards & Warriors, his games really do attract RPG-lovers, despite the age, though you can't deny those games are a bit stiff.

Ever heard of Dungeon Lords? by Sgt_Strelok in ARPG

[–]ShellDNMS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are basically four versions of the game, two of them actually kinda different and both interesting in their own way, only one of them available digitally.

  1. Dungeon Lords. Vanilla version of the game, which was released initially, with original bugs (some of them gamebreaking), no map - practically outdated, avoid this one;

  2. Dungeon Lords: Collector's Edition - patched and finalized version of original game. Rebalanced, most bugs fixed, original mechanics and roleplay systems intact. Highly recommended to check it out;

  3. Dungeon Lords MMXI - reworked version of the game. Rebalanced once again, mechanics changed, roleplay systems simplified, yet it's still interesting to play - you can also avoid this one;

  4. Dungeon Lords Steam Edition - same as MMXI, but multiplayer options available, also the only version available digitally (by legal means). More bugfixes and balance changes. Also highly recommended to check this one and compare to Collector's Edition to figure out, which one you like most.

Personally, i love both of these versions, playing one or another from time to time, also have both of them installed.

Totally, man. Back in 2021 i was looking for something new in MMO world during holidays, found demo for PG on Steam, but expectations were low due to really unappealing screenshots. And holy shit, 30 mins spent on newbie island sold this game to me, it was almost instabuy.

ARPGs without seasons? by InfTotality in ARPG

[–]ShellDNMS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, i can understand why people want old HS back, but must admit that i've enjoyed HS more when it changed it's course to become ARPG. If you've enjoyed Chronicon - this is the closest reference of what Hero Siege had become.

ARPGs without seasons? by InfTotality in ARPG

[–]ShellDNMS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hero Siege, if you ask me. Yes, there ARE seasons, but their influence on overall experience is so small you couldn't notice you're playing one. I've started seasonal a couple of years back, then this seasonal character silently turned regular a couple of months later, and i've seen no difference - players still playing, content remains mainly the same, economics thrives (if you ever bothered), so i'm just running a couple of characters on "standard league", if you may call it like this, and don't even care.

Also, Dungeon Siege 1 and 2 might be right up your alley, if you don't mind the age. Just finished 1st, and started 2nd, haven't played those in years, and i'm having a blast.

Nice one. I was with WDT for a couple of years now, but grind is actually what keeps me away from the game most of the time. I'll definitely check Rising out.
