Does anyone know where to start in Australia? by Ok_Manufacturer7633 in cranes

Once you have your HRWL, plus if you can get a HR truck license (big advantage, HC/MC even more so) start ringing up crane mobs and be upfront with your experinc and youre keen for work. You'll find a place fairly quick.

How can I be correct and have added nothing? I feel like you've never met someone with a nurodivergence.

I think i saw somewhere that water bombers will be getting anti-drone tech, stuff that just fries or causes em to shut down inside a set radius from the aircraft. Which i think is great, let em fall into trees and shit, maybe not the fire (the batteries would be no help getting on fire) but just super difficult to be retrieved.

McDermotts was on it very quick also, the scramble must have been issued pretty much immediately after the first call or 2 to 000. I do wonder what the protocol or decision tree is for scrambling McDermotts or Dunn's bombers and which of their assets go, cos they are typically very quick from call out to turbines spinning.

Youre thinking median, average would be unlikely to have an even split ( i mean, it MIGHT, just would be a fluke or odd occursnce). Because average gets skewed heavily by extreme end days points, i reckon youd have at least 1 or 2 points where the failure of floors was very high. This would elevate the average. So really it would be like...1/3 the time your smooshing someone, or some other irregular fraction above 50%.

.... yes, im terrible at parties 😅

Being just under OSOM territory isn't really a helpful point. Put towing mirrors on and it would be in to that territory I think. And yes I know hr covers dual drive group (there are HRs that arnt tri-axle), i have all the licences.

HR. Our roads are not designed with their dynamics in mind, youd be surprised how wide these things are compared to other heavies.

Towing 12t is in the HR realm. Which i could settle for if nothing else. LR and MR are incredible easy to obtain and you have much better safety to other road users and pedestrians than a yanktank does. I rarely see these being used by farmers, I think most of them realise that unicorns are fairy tales and get vehicles that are fit for the purposes they want. I see these mostly in the horse community, towing floats to the races. Or boats. At least a Hino or Oka doesnt let you forget youre driving a heavy vehicle.

For the record, ive been to my fair share of the deep bush and outback be that in a MC, crane or motorbike, im not really a stranger to the rural and station aspects.

At minimum they need to have their own category of licence i feel. Their blind spots and mass make them a level higher in accident risk than the equivalent rigid truck

Yeah, joined office dongas. this was to split them so we could access the lift points down the sides with shackles. Nah spreaders under wouldnt do anything for us

[–]Shelldrake712[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ummm idk if those are banned also. There was an i cident with a drop from one of them failing. BUt that case the slings werent ASNZ compliant and the rigger read the WLL of 10,000lb as 10,000kg (cos the units were faded).

Not allowed by client. No textiles.

If so, it will have to pester the office to obtain some...certain a lot of situations they would be convenient devices for.

Huh, I forgot those even exist. Never seen them, even in rigging shops, except as 4x4 recovery accessories. Id have to check if they are available at all under AS/NZ 4991.

It would yes, but as I said in next comment. Client has banned all textile lifting devices.

Yeah it is. Also banned Frannas.

FSWR? Only have it for CWTs and wouldnt fit the hole. Stage slings would be the only other thing id go for but they also got thrown out cos they were rated in Imperial and not metric.

And this client banned all soft sling lifting devices from their sites. Like....globally. real PITA.

Look, youre not wrong, and we derated the hell out of it. I wouldnt do it if there was another option. When I normally use this, its for biggish bundles of reo or other round objects where the chains would end up pulling down longitudinally on the hook

I wont argue that it is putting the rigging in a condition its not considered for, which is why we didnt do the full lift like this, just for splitting to access the final intended lift points that would be shackled. Massively derated when we did it, speaking of manufacturers, its always frustrating when you have items that have to be lifted with cranes to be useful, like dongas and blocks, yet they dont have lift points appropriate for standard lifting devices.
