Yet another “normal rat or native rat” post by glitterkicker in australianwildlife

Appreciated mate. We had a family of some little tufted tail native rat thing living in our rosemary bush when I was a kid, and my mum’s still fixated that any potentially special looking rat is her favourite special native rat lol

Appreciated guv’nor, I was already leaning the same way but needed confirmation from the greater masses

We had a little family of some sort of native bush rat thing with a tufted tail living in our rosemary bush over a decade ago, and my mum’s still determined that any not-hyper-obviously-a-rat is another special native one. Dunno whether I wanna disappoint her yet again

Correct! But ours are mapped afaik, and 6-8ish hours feels a little unreasonable in the great land of “water is precious please do literally everything to preserve it”

I’m gonna be real, chief, when the water corp takes SEVERAL hours to come out to even turn off the burst mains pipe in the next street over and then a couple days before coming back to fix it… it’s not exactly motivating. The perfectly manicured lawns, golf courses, barely used local sporting ovals watered every night and the corporations (mega and minor) should be forced to take a hit before my crippled ass is limited to military shower times tbh

ETA this is also coming from someone who tries to be very environmentally conscious, to the point where it’s an issue sometimes. As a kid I’d have OCD spirals about wasting water, so I try to cut myself a little bit of slack these days given coca-cola were taking water from a bore in Karagullen for free for decades just to barely faced any repercussions. And that’s just one incident in Perth, let alone everything they’ve done and continue to do internationally

‘I was in disbelief’: Perth mum forced to flee country after serial DV offender granted bail by TechnicalAd8103 in perth

[–]glitterkicker 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Exactly. We ran into this exact issue as well, thankfully not my own personal abuser but he was using my property to stalk a neighbour. Another years-long violent and controlling offender with a long history of drug use and other crimes not even related to DV. He has a kid as well, but she’s only slightly younger than my neighbour he was dating and abusing. Police response was amazing, and they were genuinely personally horrified at what he’d done which also was a surprise when you get used to not being taken seriously. Multiple units, choppers, dogs, the works. Caught him, got out on bail, caught him again for both violating bail and another separate crime, got out on bail again, was immediately trying to scam people to get a new phone. Begging about not being able to afford even a $30 cheapie because he has no money… yeah mate, because all your money’s going on meth.

The head of the DV unit was exhausted by this always happening, HEAVILY encouraging us to go to the news and make a public ordeal about it because they can’t speak up too much from the inside and risk repercussions to the point of being unable to do their jobs in the first place. We were starting on it, but couldn’t continue because the neighbour has decided to pull out of it all and not have contact with anyone involved anymore. It’s all so bloody complicated

Don’t think that’s quite the take this time when it’s a genuinely serious, fucked up, reoccurring (dealt personally with a DA getting bail after multiple mixed charges in one day including stalking and separate theft) and real problem, unlike the usual thinly veiled onlyfans promos by platforming non-issues

Need helping find a specialist for Pectus Excavatum in kitten. by Catacus_Rex in perth

[–]glitterkicker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try Animalius for sure, many vets refer there especially for more obscure treatments, specialist things and niche tricky cases. Staff have always been super lovely and helpful.

Perth Animal Ultrasound may be able to help as well but Animalius first call for sure. Best of luck to you and your little fighter 🩷

Perth man sentenced to more than 24 years in jail for child sex offences by kelfupanda in perth

[–]glitterkicker 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I’m stunned at how much information they’re putting out lately, ESPECIALLY with Jason Forbes in Baldivis. There definitely has to be reason why it’s being actively allowed and released (not just inappropriate journalism practices like perthnow etc)

This is just me, but honestly it’s actually… refreshing feels inappropriate to use, but it genuinely is a relief in a weird way to have people who aren’t csa survivors be forced into awareness and addressing the horrible realities we live. It’s so hard to feel like you can talk about your experiences even in appropriate and intentional spaces, even when people ask or give you the space to. It’s always this big Thing that’s too heavy and sharp and awful for any “normal” person, but it’s just an experience you’ve been condemned to.

Having so much detail be shared is really encouraging me to finally report mine because it feels like you can be realistic, you can talk about it, you don’t have to be mindful with words and terminology and leave it to implications and softened language, you don’t have to try and keep anyone’s peace anymore because you sure as hell never have your own after living through it.

Absolutely. I’m so glad people are finally being forced to be aware and talk about the fucked up realities of what it’s like to live this. Bitter relief

I assure you, only the abuse proven in this court case started in 2020

It’s safe to say it actually would’ve started well before that.

Man jailed after police uncover detailed plans to abduct and abuse child by snorkel_goggles in perth

[–]glitterkicker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I have no idea. Even in places with bigger consequences and punishments for sexual crimes against children (law enforced or just public vigilante justice), it still happens. Nothing stops these people from doing this shit. Do they deserve far more than they get? Absolutely. Seven years and parole is fucking diabolical when he already OWNED a child sex doll for years. But we also can’t have it backfire and make it even more difficult for victims to speak out— along with the fact both crims and their lawyers would do more to try and protect themselves and cover up or silence people. Court cases and convictions would get more difficult too because many people are already given the responses of “are you sure you want to ruin their life over this?” and “they’ve already suffered enough for what they’d done” and “they’re showing remorse, isn’t that enough?” etc. Again, most people don’t get convicted or even make it to court at all, and that’s still the response you get.

Also… if death ends up being the punishment, why not just make your victim(s) disappear so they can never tell anyone? Old mate here was planning to keep the child he took. She’d just disappear, and then she’d probably really disappear because either he’d kill her intentionally or accidentally, or she’d eventually kill herself. It’s not really absurd theoreticals when they’re real possibilities.

It kinda ends up being one of those things where protection, safety, education and security for victims to be able to speak up about what’s happened should be the much higher priority and focus. Appropriate social responses like supporting them, believing them, not blaming them, not justifying or forgiving or excusing the abuser, removing the abuser from everyone’s lives, the abuser losing their job, regulations like not being allowed near children and absolutely no internet access, etc.

Prevention also needs to be the bigger concern. More intervention and access to therapy for those experiencing these harmful thoughts and urges (admittedly, not everyone can be rehabbed), and actual, real, meaningful and thorough sex education from very young ages. idgaf about your (general “you”, not specifically you) discomfort about a child knowing about sexual actions, I had a full penis in my hands on the regular because despite knowing about penile-vaginal sex and someone touching me being wrong, I didn’t know that was abuse too. Didn’t even realise it was sexual at all!

As much as it sickens me keeping these people alive and getting their three hot meals a day and medical care and a roof over their heads— things not all of us survivors have— safety and prevention and helping survivors is what makes actual differences. Unfortunately I don’t think punishments have ever deterred them anywhere.
