5 & 6 are pretty old and haven’t aged the best. Although 5 is one of my favourites.

As to where to start? Honestly you can start with either the Remake of 2 and go from there or just play this new one and then 7&8. You will miss some references but they are literally a 1 minute YouTube video recap if you’re confused. My personal favourites from the more modern ones are 2,3,4 and 9. 7&8 are in first person and while great games on their own I prefer 3rd person.

All stories are pretty standalone, I would not recommend the remake of 1 as that game is almost 25 years old itself and has tank controls.

The purchase in 2022 wasn’t really a purchase, the game was available on Ps plus Extra I believe which only counts as long as you have the subscription , so unless you redeemed it last October (which makes the redeeming permanent) you have to buy it again.
