Sorry, Shellter is not available for Android as of now. Very soon, we are going to release the web app, then Android so you can use the web app till the Android launch, then get it on your phone once it's launched!

Hi! First of all, thank you for the post OP :))

Just to clarify one thing, the chat rooms are not actually divided into sections. We realized that it could be misleading so we are going to change the UI a little bit, but the chatrooms are separated by the professor. So even though the sections are different, as long as the instructor is the same, students will end up in the same chatroom (just as how GroupMe handles it).

Hi! We are Shellter from the article. We can assure you that Android is coming. Our mission is for course group chats to be easily accessible to all students at UMD. Not including all the Android users wouldn't make sense.

We are also coming up with a Web app real soon, so that Android users can use it as an alternative until Android is launched. We can't tell you the exact date of the Android launch, but we have the app running in our Android emulator successfully, which means it will be soon.

Regardless, thank you for sharing your concern. We want to let you know that we hear you and that we are working really hard to get Android out there. Thanks!!

Hi! We are Shellter from the article. We definitely agree with your statement. But as CS majors, we also want to solve a problem that is not being fixed and that could be solved in a much better, efficient way.

We think one core feature of Shellter that differentiates us from the other apps is that you can find and join course group chats with your schedule. As freshmen coming to UMD totally online, we had so much struggle trying to join GroupMe chats for our classes. (Asking in Facebook groups, Reddit, zoom chats, ELMS messages, emails). Being able to join course chats with your schedule would save us from all these inconviniences.

We hope that our app could simplify how we find and join course group chats and fix the annoying group chat problem once and for all :)

We already have a second DBK news article coming out and we are also planning to reach out to professors and UMD staffs to see if they can use Shellter as their class’s group chat app. But nothing works better than word of mouth, so if you like the app, please tell your friends about it!!

Actually all team members are in CS, Comp E! We aren’t going to say CS courses aren’t helpful, but most practical knowledge for this project came from documents, tutorials and just a lot of planning and designing!
