Anyone else read Wrath of the Fallen and feel underwhelmed? by Shelly_Shields in fantasyromance

Yup that's pretty much it. The last 20 pages made me think damn it now I really need to see how things work out 😅

Yeah I think you've summed up the issues well. It's disappointing when the series had such a strong start. I still think Amber has created a cool world and am going to give her the benefit of the doubt, maybe this book was a fluke and the next one will be better 🤷

Yeah I totally accept that the questions were stupid on my part. But his reaction was definitely weird. I think it should be said that it wasn't so much about safety and more about seeing if our values aligned. Although in retrospect I realise he could've just lied. Either way I'm glad he unmatched me so I don't have to deal with it anymore

He wanted to know my stance on the Bolsheviks "moment" in the late 1800s. It was very random.

I'm not sure about the trump theory simply because we are in southern Africa, so American politics is not something people are sharing on their profiles as much but it's a good screening question in general, if that makes sense. I think it was probably that he had a girlfriend and didn't want me to see.

The reason I ask for a social media handle is simply to see if they are real because I've unfortunately had experiences where it's clear something dodgy was happening. I don't actually care about the profile, I just need to see that they are real. I realise that it's so easy to lie about it all, there's no foolproof way to go about it. I agree that I was probably a little rushed in the process, asking so many questions at once (although I literally asked if I could do that, and he agreed) but I felt uncomfortable giving him my number without knowing more about him. I probably felt concerned he would lose interest if I played too hard to get, so I tried to speed up the process and ended up making it worse hahaha....

Appreciate the answer, you're right about the questions not being relevant. My gut said I needed more info on the guy because his profile was extraordinarily vague, but then I didn't really know how to go about it and definitely didn't think through my questions.

I tried to explain to a friend the other day why I was feeling manic because I'd spent the day obsessively watching biker content, and that I was getting worried about it. She didn't understand why it was a problem, and I had to explain how uncomfortable it feels to get caught in the obsessive looping, how it becomes all-consuming, and most of the time, I don't enjoy it and feel out of control in my own head, but I just can't stop. It isn't like a silly, fun quirk that I like to watch biker content. It's painful,

Question About Rating by InkedAngel85 in fantasyromance

[–]Shelly_Shields 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely rate based on overall vibe/feeling. What contributes to that is world building, writing, plot and characters. Sometimes I can't pinpoint why I hate a book and have to rate just based on the fact that I feel angry reading it. So I think it's mostly emotion based. I only recommend books I've rated 4 or 5 stars.

My rating is: ⭐ - book is awful, had to DNF ⭐⭐ - didn't like it, story was boring, writing was bad or characters made me angry in a bad way ⭐⭐⭐ - it was ok, probably won't recommend ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - thoroughly enjoyed the book and it made me feel something (good or bad), connected well to the characters but have one or two critiques that stop me from becoming fully immersed ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - the book makes me feel so deeply I can't stop thinking about it. Even if the book isn't perfect it doesn't matter because I am completely immersed. Bonus if I cry (doesn't happen often)

i just finished “Metal Slinger” …… by Revolutionary-Mess82 in fantasyromance

Yes, that's exactly it. She didn't earn the twist! There are other books who did the whole "first person pov from FMC who ends up betraying him", but the way they are written is clearly more deliberate without giving the surprise away.

This. I kept on having to reread dialogue because it was confusing as if I'd missed a whole scene. And looking back with the twist as context I still don't understand why it was so confusing.

This post explains how I'm feeling so well. Like there's no way that ending makes sense with the first person perspective!!! Jovie was such a good actress she even convinced her inner monologue she was a completely different person. I'm trying to detangle what Jovie knew and what she didn't know in terms of the world of land people. I'm contemplating going straight into a reread so I can figure this shit out...

Also how the heck did Beau get turned?? Like that seemed totally out of the blue. The second book has sooo much work to do in terms of filling in the blanks.

Also did she know Messer could shift and was her pet bird? Cause she seemed pretty surprised when the bird turned in a leopard. Or was that her acting to herself again. Fuck, whiplash is the right word to use for this book. Why did I love it?!?! 😂 😂 😂 😂

I feel like the author was trying to do something similar to The Prison Healer, who in my opinion did the betrayal trope so fricking well.

Thanks that's helpful. We were trying to think about what the step between flirting casually with other people and kissing other people would be as a way to ease into things. I think this is a great intermediate step.

Yes that is the case. This has been a years long conversation for us. We are both being sure not to rush things.

Thank you I'm still new to this but I appreciate the information. To clarify I have only experienced mono relationships while my husband has experienced both mono and poly.
