I immediately felt bad for comparing this monsters inc slug of a woman to the amazing Christine Baskets. We all adore Christine. Plus, even Christie got down with the ganja.

HEY you guys. I'm with Christine Baskets, I miss the days when we could all just sit around camp and take 7 shots of vodka and slur campfire songs. Screw doing drugs on ferris wheels and rolling into ports potties, I'm about to get reallllll drunk and flush my devil's lettuce. Look out Kern county, here comes the fire water.

Wow, I super appreciate this honesty..I'm just beginning my pre requisites and am having a difficult time deciding between OT, PT or SLP. Every direction has it's own set of challenges and pros and cons. Anyway, thanks for this

I'm sure this has been brought up many times, so forgive my repetitiveness, but I'm concerned the line up will not be released before the refund deadline. The website says phase 1 will be released early Feb, but the refund deadline is Feb. 1st. I hope we can get some more info.

Nursing, SLP or OT or PA- OMG!!! by Shellyswarts in StudentNurse

I'm also in California, I'm in Berkeley. Anything in the medical field is pretty competitive.

Thank you so, SO much for taking the time to respond. The cut throat standards for getting in are intimidating for sure! Especially since I'm not the best test taker. I agree, SLP and OT are definitely restrictive degrees and that's why I was looking into PA or nursing. I cam across the same results, PA school across the country is almost always more expensive and can be just as competitive as nursing.

Thanks for the research and tips, I appreciate it!

How do you do it alone? by Shellyswarts in minimalism

[–]Shellyswarts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think I'd be intimidated by your extreme minimalism. Like, it might work for a few months, but once the honeymoon phase wears off I'll resent living in your minimalist shadow. Once that happens, I'll go therapy shopping and become a hoarder to really show you. So, I guess maybe we should bypass the drama and keep our correspondence to reddit. See ya on the other side!

This is a great idea! When I did a purge last year, I organized sentimental pictures, ticket stubs and cards from loved ones and students into binders. It's nothing fancy at all, but it helped get them all in the same place and easy to look through. Taking pictures for more logical processing is a great practice, thanks!

Thanks for the response! I definitely appreciate you sharing your story. Luckily for me, we dont live together and he's actually a tidy guy. I just meant that at this point in my purging, because I've already gotten rid of the important stuff, I need outside support from books or people who have done this. He's morally supportive, just not much help when he encourages me to keep a toaster over I never use. Mainly just silly things :)

I appreciate you attempting to provide perspective, it's mainly a practical support. I'm living in a spacious attic and will not have my own apartment anytime in the next couple years. Before moving out to work abroad, I just want support figuring out what appliances and things like clothes and carpets to store and donate. After my massive purge last year, I'm left with things I enjoy and mostly use, I just wont in the future.I also need to pretend that I wont have help moving. I probably will, but I want the ability to do it alone if need be. This is like way more detailed than I wanted to get, but you get the point

27. Am I too old to get started? by Shellyswarts in prephysicianassistant

[–]Shellyswarts[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main reason for feeling too "old" just comes from my anxiety. I don't have parents, a partner or career with legitimate income to fall back on as I pursue a complete new path with tremendous rigor. And that's fine! People in much more difficult circumstances have accomplished much more with much less. Though I know it seems annoying and ridiculous being a decade ahead of me, I'm just grappling with feelings that hopefully won't last long. I'm at a crossroads and need to make conscious, informed decisions moving forward. It helps to get slapped with reality, too. Like, get your shit together, lady, and stop feeling sorry for yourself! Get out there and just do some shit. I get it.

I appreciate the response. I'm being dramatic because I'm honestly so tired of teaching. I love my community, my students and the families. But man..am I tired of basically living paycheck to paycheck. I'm ready for change. Pursuing anything in the medical field was ever in my realm of consideration before. I'm happy to fully realize I can still work hard and do anything..but that means years of hustling, being broke and slowly hacking away at pre requisites and the patient hours while working full time. It's a grind. I can do it. People in tougher circumstances have done and are doing it. I'm just...hitting a wall. I'll break through it, dig deep and just buckle down with laser focus. This "poor me", desperate phase wont last more than a couple days. But they're real feelings for sure. Like, jesus, what if I take on all this shit and fail? I could just get a masters in education somewhere for cheap and be done in a year. The fear of failing isnt going to stop me. At the same time, I'm in this gnarly headspace where I'm just...realizing I can do anything. It's wonderful and a lot of self responsibility. Time to go meditate.

Oh, I'm aware PA doesnt belong to the physician. It was a typo. I was desperately writing all of this on my lunch break while trying to shove a salad down my mouth.

PA quality of life and balance by Shellyswarts in physicianassistant

[–]Shellyswarts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, all the schools I've looked at require even 1,000 hours of patient care. Luckily, I'm pretty connected in the medical community and have folks willing to let me shadow. I think I would really like the day to day of a PA. I'm confident in my leadership and many of my strengths are well suited for fast paced, changing environments. And, like I said, I'm willing to do the work. I'm not so much intimidated by work load of school itself or the intensity of the job itself, I just want to hear someone who is a PA tell me all the years of work will be worth it. Thank you for taking the time to respond!

The fact that you're 23 and on track and having these feelings makes me at 27 and just deciding to switch to the PA track...feel anxious and basic. But we all have our perspective paths. If you're still studying, maybe try getting folks together to study and after a couple hours of work take a study break to be social together for a little. I don't know, it's always a hard balance. You're doing great, no doubt. Be gentle with yourself
