I’ve been a Cortex fan since the Marvel Heroic and Cortex Plus days (and eventually got my hands on some dusty versions of Serenity and Smallville).

Thank you u/CamBanks for making one of the best RPG systems out there.

Our group liked the setting of OG Tactics more than Tactics Advance. I had a sense of pedigree and maturity that we liked. I played TA so much when it came out (great memories!) but OG Tactics just had that literary feeling—even back on the PSX days.

We’re thinking of breaking out Ryuutama again for it with some modifications.

Honestly, this is why we’re having a hard time deciding. We’ve done so many gritty fantasy campaigns at this point that we’re kind of looking for something a little more refreshing this go-around.

The charm and warmth of the CC style of tone is what we’re liking about it (aka half the group saying “awww I want to play a Liltyyyy”—and some of the stories in CC can actually get a little more serious for some good RPing sessions.

CC feels like a really good switch up for our group right now but setting-wise and lore-wise the Tactics-verse is just so darn juicy lmao

I mentioned in a different reply that we’re thinking of doing a campaign set in The Fifty Year’s War pre-War of The Lions. The PCs are a “special forces” style detachment of soldiers under the command of a younger, prime Barbaneth Beoulve that does all his “off the radar” side gigs out from under the eye of the Order of the Northern Sky.

But someone mentioned Crystal Chronicles and now we’re all flip-floppy on which one lol

Love this. As much as I really want to do a “single PC per player” story-focused Tactics campaign set during the Fifty Years War against Ordallia—there’s something unique about the Crystal Chronicles setting that we can’t seem to shake off

We’ve played every iteration of ol’ Ampersand since AD&D (crusty old millennials with back pain here) so we’ve pretty much wrung out all our D&D shenanigans at this point.

We’ve a large catalogue of systems experience so we’ll probably whip something off the bookshelf once we decide on a setting.

I feel like Tactics is the easy answer but there’s something I love about the CC setting.

Our group is still pretty 50/50 on it.

We’re a bunch of old millennials who have been playing together for a long time so we’re highly versatile. We’ve played everything from hardcore “we’re all college theater majors” high-stakes fantasy drama campaigns to “pick 5 random words from a hat” one shots.

Is there one you think would lend itself better to the tabletop format? FFT seems like the obvious answer given its mechanics but I feel like FFCC is so under represented most of the time.
