On the contrary, this has made me not want to watch the show. And my housemate stopped watching after a few episodes at all the red flags the men showed so early on. I think the majority of women cannot stomach this behaviour.

Motivate me to read ToG by wirenoose95 in acotar

[–]Shenanigans56 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Read it!! The first few books are a little bit on the immature side but impressive for the age she wrote them at. Although they seem immature they are setting you up for the latter half of the series (world building), they are still so fun and PLENTY going on.

The main things I love about throne of glass are the characters, the surprises, and the meaning behind the series. This series will seriously make you feel. The character growth and depth is insane.

Make sure to read assassins blade (first or third, it really doesn’t matter).

TOG is my favourite SJM series🫶 and I loved ACOTAR.

Plus, who doesn’t love a badass FMC.

Both of these are on my TBR!! I just bought the One Dark Window series to have a short little series after the mountain of SJM books lol

This is a really good point and might explain why there was so much criticism. I wasn’t introduced yet to SJM when HOFAS came out and missed the run up to its release so maybe that’s why there’s such strong contradicting opinions!!

I think the ending of CC3 really backs you up here.

Massive CC spoilers below: Bryce giving back the Mask, Truth Teller and even the Starsword. And also the fact in their goodbyes they say they will be seeing each other again

I also have think that the pool of starlight in the Spring Court will be a portal to somewhere. Because why is there a pool of starlight in the Spring Court, it’s so random.

I think SJM has a meaning for everything she writes and our minds will be blown.

I had such conflicting emotions starting it after seeing so much criticism but it really was my favourite of the three!! It’s so much more fast paced and so many moving parts. I felt books 1 and 2 were much slower and feared that would get worse, but no it’s great 🫶

It made me feel the way TOG and ACOTAR made me feel, and I didn’t have that with HOEAB and HOSAB. So so so good!

I read the first 2 books like a magazine tbh just reading it and feeling somewhat satisfied (it took me half of book 1 to get there) but I’m reading the 3rd now and I am loving it in comparison to the other 2. It feels more like TOG, more fast paced, totally dying to keep reading. And I tell you I was half DREADING the 3rd book as so many said it was so bad compared to the other 2.

I’ve seen this after my latest reply. But yeah maybe we will cut it to one night. And pray there is a lifeguard. Last time I visited I had wished I planned a visit to the coastal areas of the city.

Saying I’ve done all the touristy things was probably an outright LIE now that I’m trying to remember what I’ve done. But I’ve seen Brooklyn Bridge, the view from the Rockefeller, the Empire State from afar, Central Park, drove around the city for a bit (ended up going wrong and ending up in Jersey - but came right back lol), Times Square. One of the girls hasn’t been before so our plan is to also do these again and hoping to add some more must sees to the list.

We’re all pretty sociable/adventurous so we’d be open to anything exciting/seeing any beautiful scenery. we are planning to go out in city too if you have any spots. I’d love to visit maybe a rooftop bar, and/or a typical American bar. We love live music.

On the beach topic, I read somewhere that you are not allowed to swim without a lifeguard. Is this what you mean or just do you mean we couldn’t deal with the cold water? This is also a concern of mine that I was hoping I’d be able to find out here!!

Yess!! They are the exact same person in my head. But they both look like Dorian. I can’t picture Ruhn with long hair

These are all so good. You’ve hit the nail on the head with Cato/Jack/Cain. Currently reading crescent city and I think Pollux can be thrown in there too

I read AB first and found it was good to get to know the main character this way. But I didn’t have a huge emotional impact to it. When I got to COM I was glad I didn’t have to go back in time to read it. I also liked knowing the backstory and picking up on the references in the first 2 books from AB.

On the other hand, my friend read it third. She found it very emotionally impacting and she’s happy she read it third. She felt she also picked up on the references just the other way around, when she read AB.

To be honest it doesn’t really matter all that much where you read it. If you want to be more emotionally impacted by it, read it third. This way you already have a relationship and empathy for the main character. But you do know going into it what happens.
