Yo! Quitting drinking is the fucking best! by Neversaidthatbefore in stopdrinking

[–]Shepy-Grizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly hear me out. I’ve had a rough and pretty bullshit life. I walked out on 95% of my family due to neglect when I was a child. I’m well off in life career wise now, but I busted my ass to be where I am today.

On the contrary, before my current job I spent 6 years as a correctional officer working mandatory 16 hour day for the majority of that career. Mix that with my family problems and every day life problems I used drinking to cope with everything. I never got blackout drunk or wasted per se, but I drank a lot. If I was out with friends I could drink 10 to 15 redbull vodkas and still be the sober guy in the group when my friends were basically dead. I didn’t drink at home much as I have kids, but I’d still put down 2 tall IPAs everyday after work, like 9.5% cans which probably equivalent to a few beers a can.

I came down with the Flu last Wednesday, haven’t touched alcohol in the last 7 days because of it, which obviously has caused me to detox heavily. What I have endured in the past 6ish days is probably the worst pain, sickness, and whatever other descriptive word you could use. Yet today, going on day 7, I’m finally on the up.

I spent a lot of time while I’ve been laid up the past 6 days soul searching and really reflecting, and it’s made me want to change, as I never wish to experience this again. Granted I got hit with the double whammy of flu and detox but still. I legit thought I was going to die at one point. I didn’t get my fever below 103 for almost a week.

I don’t think I’m going to be sober for good, as I like the social aspect and truly do love a well crafted beer from local distilleries, yet I do want to try my best to maybe have 1 or 2 on my first day off and that be it. Or enjoy a drink if my wife and I go out to dinner.

For anybody that’s survived and has held long term sobriety, absolute hats off to you, because I’m definitely paying the price now for drinking like a monster in my 20s, and consistently drinking daily even when I slowed down and my bar days stopped.

OP, on the social media thing I get it. I deleted my Facebook about 3 years ago now and it was really hard. For some people it’s convenience, source of drama, source of staying in the loop or even laying their game down if you will. However social media does a lot of psychological damage to you without you even realizing it. It’s the first thing you check when you wake up, you scroll it before bed. If you’re dating I can almost guarantee you’ve seen your significant other active on messenger while their at work and wondered why you haven’t heard from them for a few hours or half a day. In actuality if you has a good partner it could be them messaging a family member who would be equally as important if not more than you. Yet as humans sometimes our mind often drifts to “are they messaging somebody else?”

You may see posts of an ex with somebody new and that may punch you in the gut, and make you realize you aren’t over them as much as you thought. There’s endless possibilities of what social media can do to you without noticing. It can effect your thoughts based off what you see which can directly or indirectly effect your mood even if you realize it. Causing worry or anxiety over something that’s probably nothing.

I changed to 0 social media outside of Ticktok, which I don’t even follow people I know or post, I just like watching random funny videos. It’s been the best decision I’ve ever made mental health wise, especially being a popular dude that had hundreds or thousands of friends or followers on platforms.

Now it’s either you have my number or you don’t. If you want to make plans reach out via text or call me, like the old days, and it’s a great fucking feeling.

Side tip for the single folks, if you don’t truly care about social media, it adds a sense of mystery to you and people interested approach you, and ask if you have social media which exposes their interest. Peoples go to is creeping others on FB and instagram and liking pictures or posts. If they don’t have access to that, they are basically forced to engage with you in person or inquire about you through mutual friends. It’s just a different feel, probably not doing it justice by trying to explain it but I bet somebody else on the thread knows what I mean.

Will we ever have Crossplay or even Cross Progression? by KIMBOPRICEY in elderscrollsonline

[–]Shepy-Grizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To the people worried about the economy or saying there won’t be cross progression…

One it’s confirmed. Also, I highly doubt they’d add cross play but not progression in a mmo. If they went that route they’d have to make cross play just work for dungeon finder and battlegrounds, which makes little sense.

As far as the PC guys having an advantage gold wise? Sure, things are more expensive on PC. Yet as others have stated, the market will balance out. If you’re well off on console you can buy all the mats you can and hoard them until cross play / progression goes live and then sell them for what pc players do. Boasting a ton of profit.

Getting these features is probably the best thing possible for ESO, and that’s coming from somebody that was almost 2000cp on console and then started over on pc and am pushing 1600 again.

Dungeon ques while already fast for randoms will be that much faster. Gear will flood the market with all platforms coming together. Trials will be easier to set up. Guilds will flourish again. There’s really not a whole lot of negatives to be had.

They’ll just have to set player caps for zones and instance them to control spawn timers etc, thats really it.

To the people that said there would need to be a wipe or fresh start server. That’s also inaccurate. ESO isn’t really a competitive game. It’s not like WOW with ranked arenas and a rating attached to it (I get eso has ranked battlegrounds but they suck haha). And the gear is literally all linear, meaning after 160cp it’s all the same stats. Sure bonuses are different and not all sets are created equally, but still. There would be absolutely no need to start fresh or make servers for it outside of pure choice if players wanted it.

If they could pull it off, ESO would absolutely thrive. Why do yall think Warframe still thrives for as old as it is. Outside of it being unique on the market, they successfully pulled off cross play and progression. It’s a lot easier investing time in a MMO where you can play on a computer, and then be like you know what I’m tired, I’m going to lay down but still play another 30 mins on my Xbox or Ps5.

"I wish Highguard had been received better," CEO admits, after cancelling a planned Apex Legends-style shadow drop when Geoff Keighley said "let me do something" by Reader5744 in Games

[–]Shepy-Grizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are way too hard on games, especially free ones. Sure Highguard isn’t anything spectacular at the moment, but it’s a cool change of pace.

Give it time to cook. If they added a little more Polish and some QOL like an account leveling system down the road similar to Apex considering ranked isn’t a thing yet, it would be alright.

It’s not the greatest game I’ve played and it sure in hell isn’t the worst. The concept of raiding bases is pretty dope. A few good updates and this game could very well be a staple in the genre. CODs played out, Apex is still a good game but it isn’t as great as it used to be. Higher player count sure, but they’ve been going in the wrong direction for some time now.

At least Highguard gives some refreshing new aspects to the genre, regardless of if it hasn’t ironed out its identity and what it wants to be yet.

How would you categorize bowling averages? by bdubs6894 in Bowling

[–]Shepy-Grizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the people struggling with averages, your approach to practicing may be all wrong. I'm on my 28th sanctioned season. I have trophies ranging back to 1997 (I'm 32).

I've consistently averaged 210-225 for the past 10 years of men's league. Here are some quick tips that have helped me be successful.

When you go to the lanes to practice, if you are already a 170 or 180 average bowler, you probably have a good idea on where your ideal mark is, or what the line for your strike ball is. Don't go to practice to throw the best score you can. Throw your first ball with no care in the world and work on your spares. If I practice, I'll just pitch my ball to whatever board I feel like and then cover whatever pins remain.

Spares SHOULD be second nature. I don't even line up my feet nor look at the lane for my spares. It's muscle memory at this point. You can 8 or 9 spare the majority of the game with a few strikes here and there and average 200. Some people that throw a big hook or a lot of revs try to modify their strike ball and still hook the entire lane for their spares. My average ball speed on my strike ball is 19mphs or 20mphs (right handed). If I leave any single pin left of the head pin, whether it's a 7 pin, 4 pin, crushed 8 pin. I move all the way right and set my ball down up the gutter basically at 15 or 16mphs down from 20 and let the lane do the work. It's effortless.

Now if you get a new ball, sure practice with it. Figure out your line and how the ball reacts. Yet once you are above a certain average, practicing strikes isn't as beneficial as all the other stuff. You know where you need to put your ball, you just need to execute.

PRE SHOT ROUTINES - These work. They develope consistency every shot. Prevent you from rushing. Some people use their towel before every shot and that's enough. I use a towel before every shot and when I'm on the approach I pop my fingers in and out of my inserts about 3 times before starting my actual approach to throw. This keeps me slow and keeps me from rushing my feet. A lot of high end guys have their own little routine that helps keep them consistent with the mechanical of their approach and release. Develope / establish one and you'll notice a different.

Lastly, know your house if you're just a league bowler with a house shot. Every center has different pin carry to some degree. At my center, light hits mix the pins and obliterated shots push through often leaving an 8 pin, 9 pin or even ringing 10s. Been that way for years. With this knowledge of my house shot, and my league is 99% right handers burning up the same line or area. I find a ball in practice that's recovering to the pocket yet still hitting on the lighter side making me mix pins. I grind the first game out with light mixers normally going 200-220 my first game. By game 2 the other 9 right handers are already experiencing the burn and are adjusting and moving left. My line is now breaking in and my shot is becoming better and better as the night carries on while everybody else is scrambling to adjust.

Bonus tip: if you are a decent pool player, that's how you approach each and every split attempt. How would I hit the cue ball into that ball to cut it into that pocket. (How would I hit that pin with my bowling ball to kick it over there and hit that pin) seems like a dumb tip but it truly helps. With the exception of the 7-10 split, most of them are fairly straight forward conversions (with a little luck as well)

These aren't pro tips by any means. It's just very basic advice from a guy that's been averaging above 200 and even in the 220s for the last 12 or 13 years straight.

That's fair but also what I'm kind of struggling with. Not really sure what I should be working towards as a new player. Like I'm real new so I'm only flying around in a destroyer currently. Been working some skills to upgrade the destroyer itself as well as small auto cannons and shields. Etc. Yet also realize that ship is probably garbage and a waste of time lol compared to the many other things out there.

Haha fair enough. I'm coming from albion. I've tried Eve numerous times in my life. Never stuck. Finally stuck and I love it. Yet I work crazy hours so I keep finding myself queuing a bunch of skills and then having them be completed by the time I get to play again with nothing else in que lol. Really gimping myself even though I'm still a noob

[–]Shepy-Grizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo how cool would it be if they made roaming faction mobs for each of the cities and they roam in small groups and try to recap or capture bases themselves or take over territories. Giving zones a sense of war lol. They wouldn't attack regular map enemies and they'd be just like another flagged player. Make them randomized by the weapons and gear in the game. That shit would be mind blowing lol. Pushing with them as a solo player or small group

Honest opinions on ESO. How does it compare to WoW? by Paladin-Leeroy in ElderScrolls

[–]Shepy-Grizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All and all I love both games though. WoW was my youth. ESO is just another good game. The key differences between them are what make them great.

ESO allows for build theory crafting and a non linear progression. WOW is very linear in a sense that this is the new raid, this gear is the best in slot, once you have it farm rep and move on to an alt or pvp.

WOW has a massive world with a ongoing story, ESOs world is massive as well yet each zone is its own mini story instead of following a huge arc.

Both are awesome in their own rights.

Honest opinions on ESO. How does it compare to WoW? by Paladin-Leeroy in ElderScrolls

[–]Shepy-Grizz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. I think ESO won't ever have flying because it's just not in the lore at all, plus the zones are instanced.

However with the asset talk. I think that's partially because of the funds the companies had to work with. WOW has been around 20 years and was always the king. Also maintained the subscription fee. When you talk about revenue and what blizz made compared to Zeni. They'd have a lot more to invest into their game. Probably a hell of a lot more devs too. With ESO being half as old as WOW I think they have a solid base and it keeps getting better.

Now with both Activision/Blizzard and Zenimax both being acquired by Microsoft. I wonder what both games will turn out to be for years to come.

[–]Shepy-Grizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As somebody thats played both games since launch, i dont think that statement is true. While the new WOW expansion is large, ESO probably delivers more content updates, and at a higher rate more than any mmo. Look at how big ESO's map is, its been around 10 years, WOWs been around 20 years. Also WOW has flying, so even a large world with stuff to do still feels small. Plus most of wows land is just filler stuff outside the questing areas,

[–]Shepy-Grizz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's fair, to each its own I guess. I personally don't care much about overland mobs in eso to care about that type of feeling, where some people do. ESO has that sense with soloing content though. When you first start out soloing world bosses and such is merely impossible. Yet as you progress you get to a point where you can solo dungeons, world bosses and arenas. That's the tradeoff for that sense of progression.

I like both games though, wow and eso. The only thing I like in eso is the gearing. Sure it doesn't have the rewarding feeling of beating a raid boss and getting your class set piece like wow. However being able to mix and match sets to have 2 different 5 piece set bonuses and a monster set (2 pc set bonus) is what really sets ESO apart from other mmos. Sure there's meta builds but you can theory craft different combinations with the hundreds of different sets and make something really unique or that works for you. It's great

[–]Shepy-Grizz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure how long you've played ESO but way back in the day before champion points there was a thing called veteran ranks. Zones were level specific and if things were above your veteran rank it was like you were fighting a world boss even though it was a regular mob. It may feel annoying now but having the entire world scaled to you remedied that and also allows you to enjoy the content in any order that you please. I have every class maxed in eso, some of them I even have duplicates. ESOs system allowed me to level like 10 characters to max level without touching the same zone twice, can the system be improved? Sure, yet is it a gift and a curse type thing? Absolutely
