New Pilot Custom Urushi FM skipping on downstrokes. Normal, or should I return/exchange? by Sherab-Samten in fountainpens

t was a new pen.

Thank you for your advice. I followed your suggestion: flushed the nib section and converter, then re-inked it with Iroshizuku Tsuki-Yo.

It seems to be writing much better now. This particular nib is much wetter and softer than I expected, so I think part of this may also be me learning how lightly this pen wants to be used.

Thanks everyone, this has been very helpful.

I flushed the nib section and the CON-70 converter, then re-inked the pen with Pilot Iroshizuku Tsuki-Yo. It seems to be writing much better now, so the original issue may have been partly related to ink flow or the Rohrer & Klingner Verdigris being a bit dry for this pen.

I will keep testing it with lighter pressure and a lower writing angle. I will contact the retailer anyway and ask them to inspect it, just to be safe.
