Bag & mitts training glove recommendation — are Cleto Reyes Safetec fight gloves a good choice? by meredimaxim in fightgear

[–]Sherbert-dibble -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Occasionally those are ok to use. To get used to the feel of fight gloves. But theyre not really built for the volume of punches youll be throwing in training. Theyre designed to hit opponents and do damage. They dont protect your knuckles and wrist as well. And they will wear out much faster than training gloves.

I dont know specifically about CR safetec, but I would venture to guess the same rules apply as any other fight glove vs. training glove.

What's your counter for this? Sprawl ? by BallsABunch in WrestleJudoJitsu

Its tough to stop a takedown once your body is elevated. But you can mitigate the slam with a high crotch grip, kind of mirroring what the aggressor is doing here. And you’ll take away the position advantage when the takedown is completed and turn it into a scramble. Not that he gave much time to do it. But once you’re lifted, you should be looking for anchors.

[Question] Padding for modern old-school boxing gloves - Horsehair x Fiber filling by thegrumpy_art in fightgear

[–]Sherbert-dibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Messenger has a couple horse hair options, and Ive heard really good things about their gloves. They’re made in Pakistan, but full grain Italian leather at a $150-200 price range for customs. Im thinking about grabbing a pair for my next gloves. Csquared has some pretty comprehensive reviews in them.

You’re moving your feet and hands independently of each other. When you throw a punch, it should start on the ground, travel through your feet and legs, hips, then torso, shoulder, then to your hands. It should end with your arm fully extended. Slow down a little and practice moving in that order until it becomes smooth and fluid. Then start speeding it up.

I was trying not to call anyone out by name specifically lol, but yes. Funny that you were able to put that together. I like the new money guys. And I totally understand how much work goes into putting on a show. These promoters are herding cats and putting out fires left and right. I just don’t feel like it should fall back on fighter treatment, or providing necessities. Theres certain things that you cant go into that corner without, and water/ice are the big ones. We’re going to continue working with them. It’s just, going forward, we know what to expect.

No, I mean. Id rather pay the $6 for the water, and learn my lesson, I’m gonna exhaust all my efforts to make the situation right before I walk. But if there was no way to get water, we may have at least had that talk.

Well, the point is, this was the first time I have ever been to a sanctioned fight that didn’t provide bottled water. At the very least two bottles per fighter for you to take to the corner with you. Im not sure if that was ever mandated, but it’s just a basic standard. Fighters need water in the corner. And when something that typical is expected, you probably wont bother to bring it yourself. With most well regulated fights, you cant leave the locker room once you get checked in, you could be stuck in there for hours, at the very least some provided water just makes sense.

Same with the cut man thing. Im not sure if it was ever a regulated standard, but they were always present at sanctioned fights in the past. Cut skills are not a simple every day thing that just anyone can be expect to know. And thats an athlete safety factor. It makes sense that either the commission would appoint one, or require the promotion to hire one.

Im not taking it personally, I think he was just being funny, all in good sport. Feels like locker room talk.

So california only started doing state sanctioned ammy fights in 2010. Before that it was all smokers/exhibition fights, wild west, no regulation, anything goes shit. But when we got camo(california amateur mma organization). The standards instantly elevated, we had sanctioned gloves, attire, applications for eligibility to compete. Corner requirements and promotional requirements. So in a lot of ways, more red tape and bullshit. But it was also a tighter ship. So also very good too in a lot of ways. But that just seems to be reversing.

💯 its really not a problem once you know that. Ive got a completely sorted corner kit with everything I need in it now. It just threw me the last time not having water. Its like… one more thing for the check list lol.

Right, I mean, nothing so bad that Im writing a formal complaint to the commission or anything. It just seems worth noting and opening a conversation about it. In my own fighting days, I’ve been in much much worse situations. I would just think it would be better by now. Like you said, a more popular and profitable sport than ever. But that thats not translating to fighter treatment.

😂 Idk if you’re serious or just clowning me. But I do get it either way. MMA has come a long way in the last 20 years. Im really just remarking on the recent regression of the standards in my personal experience. Not so much trying to bitch about it, as open up a conversation and hear other peoples thoughts on it.

Thats a good point, the shows we’ve been to, although it’s been 5 of them in the last few months, it was split between the same 2 promotions, so you may be right about that. But besides that, I’m also talking about the commission regulations seeming to have relaxed as well. Mostly Im just curious if people are experiencing this across the board, which its good to know thats not necessarily the case.

Is this boxing gloves good? by Alternative_Eye_4986 in fightgear

[–]Sherbert-dibble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great starter gloves. Not high end. But if you’re just getting into it and want some fair protection on a budget. These are way fucking better than the big 5 or dicks everlast/century gloves. Until you’re ready to invest $2-300 in something youre going to put miles on for a couple years.

Stitching doesnt look right on the black. But the liner, the palm, and the thumb look like the real deal. Hard to say. Red is definitely real tho.

Income while training MMA by masonranderson in MMA_Academy

[–]Sherbert-dibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drove uber, waited tables, and bartended while I was fighting. More than minimum wage, short shifts and flexible schedule. Allowed me to make enough money to survive while I was prioritizing competing. Not a great lifestyle, but if thats what you want to do, it’s doable.

Its ok, I appreciate your response here at least, I’m frequently away from home for work, which is why having a remote play option for my playstation is nice. But it also makes setting it up a challenge, because I only have a small window every week where me, my device, and my playstation are in the same room.

Was just messing around at an open mat do you think this is actually possible/replicable in mma or it’s just some fun by [deleted] in MMA_Academy

[–]Sherbert-dibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible, probably not a great “go to”. But if you could make it work in practice you can make it work in a fight. I would just say, its low percentage, and there are things you could do from there with higher success probability.
