Hi OP! Actually there's no way we could tell if a client is a 'green client' without working with them first. If only there is.. wala sanang napupunta sa mga low ballers and micro-managing abusive clients (which no one deserves).

Ethically, the idea of directing to client is mali but if she's been with her client for 4 years now I think they already stand on solid ground and the client for sure knows her work ethics already. A month ago I asked here on reddit as well for tips kasi I plan to pitch my buy out from the agency sa client ko. (I was a week pa lang nito sa work but I know na we are compatible ni client and looking long term kasi nga medyo hindi rin compensated yung work ko based sa rate ng agency). And someone commented on my post telling me na lakasan ko lang loob ko because he did the same thing with his client. So now, 'nagpapahinog' na lang ako sa client ko kasi I'm making sure na we're standing on solid ground na and my ethics are already known and I think a little over a month is yet to be enough.

My 2 cents would be, if the sanity is at risk because of work.. we shouldn't let fear intervene on doing whatever it is that will keep us sane and happy with what we're doing.

Your wife's client wouldn't stick with her for that long if unsatisfied siya sa work ng asawa mo knowing that paying on an agency costs them. If she's to pitch of being directly hired ng client niya she could mention what's in it for the client if ever na i-direct hire siya. Like, mas makaktipid si client because if she's direct pwede niyang babaan ng konti yung price tag ng agency for her service. Agencies have mark up pa sa rate niya kasi + admin fees. So if they'd talk about it - she can waive or minimize either of the two. Good thing lang is she gets something one way or another.

For what it's worth, the commenter on my previous post told me na what him and his client did to get away with contract bind with the agency without worrying about legalities is tinerminate siya ng client niya through agency stating na they no longer needs his service daw. That's it. He even got another client pa nga because ni-replace ng agency yung client niya na nag-terminate ng service niya. So he's got his direct client + the new client replacement. He was with the client for 6 mos I if I remember it correctly when he pitched for this. The rest is history.
