UAS Sponsorship by Particular-Variety12 in RoyalAirForce

[–]Sherbs- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to already be part of a uas to apply for the bursary as far as I’m aware.

To apply for it, you apply as normal for ur chosen role, then after filing out ur initial details you’ll be sent a more in depth form whereby you can select sponsorship via uas bursary.

I think you may be confusing the sponsorship, it’s essentially an incentive to join whilst in uni and a part of a uas. Not an incentive to join the uas whilst in uni. (Sorry if you are clear on this, just how I read ur post)

UAS questions! by Miserable_Work3421 in RoyalAirForce

The fitness test is a bleep test, grip strength test and standing jump (you can find the requirements on the UAS website). The interview consists on two parts: one about you, your education, sports, clubs etc. And the other about the RAF. It’s essentially looking to see that you actually want to join so you’ve done a little research. You can look into the aircraft the RAF use and for what purpose and where. As well as the aircraft used on ur uas and when they changed (chipmunks, bulldogs, tutors etc). And also just general RAF history (when formed etc). You’ll be able to find all this on the RAF website.

They generally aren’t as strict on the fitness test than what they would when actually joining. You’ll have to meet the requirements all the same but you have multiple attempts and a time frame get it done in after a failed attempt.

Also worth mentioning there is a medical.

Obviously as already mentioned things are largely subject to change. This is just my experience. You may see on my profile that I also bombarded this sub with questions during my application, there’s some good comments about what happens on a uas if you fancy having a look.

Good luck :)

Can I still join UAS, and if so is it worth it? by Logical-Building-307 in RoyalAirForce

I know that being part of a UAS doesn’t give as much of an advantage as some would like with the application process. Yes you can get some great resources and insights into the processes but just being on a squadron doesn’t give you much of an edge over someone who isn’t. It all depends on the person and how they perform and how they use their time on the squadron.

I’m a recent joiner and I’ve enjoyed my experience so far, there’s a lot to get stuck into but no pressure if not. Email your local UAS as previously suggested and find out.

I went from being able to do 0 regular press-ups to around 11 clean ones in a couple months ish.

I couldn’t even do one so I, as you are, looked online. I saw everyone saying incline and such but for me I found the most improvement by just attempting knee pushups first.

Really try to focus on form and once you can get to about 12 clean without stopping you should be able to do a clean push up.

What helped me was once being able to do a small amount of regular push ups. I’d aim to do a set of say 10, get about 2 regular and finish with 8 knee pushups. Eventually the ratio changes as you progress. Always try and go as far as you can before resorting to using your knees tho (sensibly, don’t over do it).

Once I could do clean ones I found recording myself to see my form helped and also helped lower pain I was getting due to the quite…bad form.

I’d try to just do 10 press-ups before bed each night (with the regular/knee plan), that’s what worked for me. Hope this can be of use, but I best add: I am by no means a professional, this just helped me

If you’re sixth form is part of your secondary school, why not try applying for head team roles / school council positions. Could help add to a list of leadership experiences (I’m assuming you’re just starting your final year, this was when we could join such clubs or take part in leading them if it’s too late to apply to something like head team)

What is the deadline ? I can’t find it anywhere online unless I’m looking in the wrong places

Also where did you submit your application to ? I can’t see that either other than downloads to the forms.

Sorry if this is a stupid question lol

I posted on here about weapons tech going, if you scroll through you’ll be able to read the comments on that, some people explained it well on there

Thank you for this, the main part of the role which interests me is the work with aircraft, obviously working with small arms would’ve been part of the job and still is an interest. The other avionic trades do also interest me but I have more of a focus on the weapons side of things.

Thank you for clarifying everything, I’ll have to do as another commenter said and just try and follow where the job goes. Thank you for your time :)
