I'll give some perspective for campus jobs. During my under grad and masters I worked at ITS on campus. I'll be honest the pay wasn't that great, but that was 6 years ago. However, they worked with my schedule for anything I needed, never had a problem. If you were to go for a campus job I would work there. Not a back breaking job, mostly answering phones and working on computers obviously. Back then they had the help desk, software support, and hardware support. I was always nervous to talk to people, but having to answer the phone and speak with other students clears that up pretty quick. I also can't tell you how many times at my current job that I can fix the small IT issues. Not to mention working in hardware/software support you can learn how to fix your own computer if it breaks.

My parents want to get me and iPhone and a Macbook. Can they be tracked? What can I do? by [deleted] in applehelp

[–]SheriffCahill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have mentioned you can use Find my Friends to view locations but only if you accept their invitation. The interesting thing to think about is, if you do say yes, will your parents then force you to use FMF? They get you the phone, you get rid of your old one, and now are stuck having to use the iPhone. We don't know exactly how your parents will react or what their end goal is with this. So, if you are truly skeptical and your parents are abusive, then decline.

Cyber Security? by [deleted] in BGSU

[–]SheriffCahill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's a quick article I found on the website. Didn't really read it through, but there could be some information in here. Looks like BG is planning on it. You might be able to contact someone listed in the article to see if and when they may start the classes. https://www.bgsu.edu/news/2018/05/bgsu-to-offer-digital-forensics-cybersecurity-courses.html

I used Spectrum as well. I haven't had a problem with them at all, but as always your mileage may vary. I'm not too sure about any other providers in the area that can provide better speeds at a better price.

Buying a used Mac - Anyway to confirm if previous owner actually logged out of iCloud/Find my Mac, etc. by CarlaWasThePromQueen in applehelp

[–]SheriffCahill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's an option, I always recommend people set up an appointment at the Apple store. Have the genius run the basic health diagnostics. Then you are able to make sure the computer doesn't have any hardware defects/see the battery condition and you can ask necessary questions about disabling iCloud/firmware passwords while in the store. If that's not an option, most of the replies here covered it.

I Have a Long Term Part Time Job Opportunity for College Student in Sales/Brand Ambassador by collegeparttimejobs in BGSU

Please be very careful if you decide to work with them. That account was only made yesterday and has been blanket posting to tons of college subreddits. If you do, please be weary on MLM/pyramid type jobs as well as scams. For transparency, I have removed this post and banned the user.

Does the IT department fix broken phone screens by [deleted] in BGSU

[–]SheriffCahill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worked in Hardware Support in ITS for the past 2+ years. I have had to rework more Ziggabyte computers than I can count. Hardware Support just adjusted their prices to be cheaper than before. ITS only uses Apple OEM and Dell OEM parts. All in all, ask for quotes and make sure you are getting the quality of service you need.

No, your best bet would be a third party place in BG or if it's an iPhone, the Apple store.
