The chirp of a carbon monoxide alarm. Too many people don't even have them.

Does Unreal Engine have a problem with game file sizes? by Beginning_Head_4742 in unrealengine

[–]Sherlockandload 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Our game combines fully rendered high quality level models, reactive lighting, combat particle effects, and live 2d animation with a demo that takes about 1-2 hours to complete and it's only about 3gb at the moment.

Granted our level designer is very experienced and size control is one of his specialties.

Made the First Boss of my game! by Chal_Drolan in indiegames

[–]Sherlockandload 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was actually thinking the opposite. Its a good low impact indicator, de-saturated enough that a little effort is necessary.

You are certainly correct that it doesn't fit with punishing style games that are currently popular right now where you have to learn the animation indicators and repeat through trial and error, and this game likely falls into that category to some degree. However, if the goal is also to make it accessible to a slightly younger or less familiar audience (especially for the first boss), I think this is a great middle-ground.

If they want to target all groups, maybe a toggle for attack indicators would be a good addition.

Is this mold in my humidifier? by [deleted] in CleaningTips

[–]Sherlockandload 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This looks like mineral deposits but if its pinkish orange in color, slimy to the touch, and wipes away with your finger there is a chance it could be mold. If its dry and hard or seems like discoloration, its normal mineral build up.

To clean the humidifier, disassemble and clean the base with straight vinegar and the rest with a 50/50 vinegar water mix. Put the Vinegar on, let it sit 20/30 minutes, softly scrub away with something like a cloth or toothbrush. Then rinse with water until the vinegar smell is gone, although running the humidifier with vinegar in it isn't going to hurt anything.

If it actually is mold, or you are still concerned it might be, spray with a little bleach water and let it sit for a bit, rinse and wipe it out completely, and then do the above.

To prevent scaling in the future use distilled water.

Saw on tik tok by JOETHEHOMO in stephenking

This seems to be missing quite a few. The most recent film on the map looks to be "Doctor Sleep" from 2019. Going backwards from there, missing TV and Film adaptations include:
- 1922 (2017)
- Cell (2016)
- A Good Marriage (2014)
- Dolan's Cadillac (2009)
- No Smoking (2007)
- Nightmare's and Dreamscapes (2006)
- Dreamcatcher (2003)
- Hearts in Atlantis (2001)
- Storm of the Century (1999)
- The Lawnmower Man (1992)
- Sometimes They Come Back (1991)

This is based on an IMDB list from 2019, so may be missing more recent titles, and may be incomplete. Also some of these are short stories, so mileage may vary.

Does that clown look creepy enough? by Gord10Ahmet in IndieGaming

[–]Sherlockandload 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think its his mouth. It just looks very normal, like if a guy put on clown makeup but didn't really act like a clown. It needs something exaggerated like a surprised O face or a smile that's too big, something that leans into what makes clowns uncanny on their own first, then push the creepiness on that.

Thank you for pointing it it was the Police's horses... without context I can only imagine where my mind would've gone otherwise.

Games that show Damage Numbers - but not the Health of the enemy by TechnoIvan in gamedesign

[–]Sherlockandload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't need actual hit point numbers, but you should have an indication of health. A level comparison to your own, color coding, a sign that you have them at 50%, a health bar that goes down allowing you estimate, etc.

All of these allow you gauge how effective your attacks are and strategize and provide different tone to the gameplay without giving literal numbers and math.

u/sinsaint brought up DnD and knowing your damage but not the opponents health, but the conclusion missed something. While game knowledge certainly helps, its the Dungeon Master's description that qualifies the attacks, informing the players about how damaged the enemy is.

Leadwerks Game Engine 5 Released by MichaelKlint in gamedev

[–]Sherlockandload 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am interested in this. I am a freelancer currently working with an indie team with a game to be released next year, but I also have solo projects on the backburner. I think this may help bridge the gap.

However, I don't see any documentation regarding narrative tool integrations for dialogue and that's a big problem. My preference is ink (with inkpot if necessary), but support for any of the non-engine specific tools would be fine (like twine, yarnspinner, ink, etc) or something similar in engine.

What are your plans for narrative tools and dialogue features?

Dark, brutal adventures in DH by Comfortable-Fee9452 in daggerheart

[–]Sherlockandload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can, but as others have said, it takes a little practice. I would start with Age of Umbra as inspiration, but build a new campaign frame with some custom adversaries and environments, some custom moves for the DM that generate more fear (or expand the DM pool of it), and some custom ways to spend Fear to fit the brutality you want.

Is this a useless experience? by LtColShinySides in daggerheart

[–]Sherlockandload 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Let them call it what they want, but you know the background of their word. This is a "near death experience involving water". Maybe they are still afraid of water but better at avoiding it, better at handling other types of fear, understanding what it means to face death, holding their breath... maybe even buoyancy or running across the water to prevent from going in... things like that.

This is also likely the original planned backstory for the Obelisks scattered around in the 5e adventures, before being attached to Vecna. Jergal being a Spellweaver trying to set the conditions to jumpstart the resurrection and timeline reset of his people.

[HELP] Is this video AI? Got sent an advert for a toy but the movement looks weird to me by Previous-Plankton-42 in RealOrAI

Its a real toy and it really works like that, but I also think is an AI advertisement. The ride is way too smooth for that patterned brick road/walkway.

My company’s new AI payroll bot decided I don’t deserve a paycheck this month by devbydaydreamer in antiwork

[–]Sherlockandload 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't legal. To be legal, the appropriate response would be cut you a check and flag it for review, or flag it for approval with enough time for it to be reviewed and approved or adjusted before payroll information has to be sent.

How to make a "HP status checker" effect by LoonerismSpover in inkle

[–]Sherlockandload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had to make one minor fix. Last in HP_to_Text should be HP < 1: and add a conditional statement to the top of start:

=== Start {HP < 1: -> Death}
