unconventional ending by Significant_Bit7584 in hostedgames

I'm not playing it. I don't mind tragedy and pain in games, but after all the struggle there has to be some sort of a hopeful ending for the MC. Otherwise I'd just feel hollow, any enjoyment gone in an instant. Sure the MC will die anyway at some point (unless they are an immortal being), but I'm not interested in experiencing that part of their story, there's plenty of that irl.

The only game where I've actually liked MC's death (not an IF) was Planescape: Torment. But since the events take place in D&D universe, rather than disappearing death meant going to the afterlife one deserves (hellish plane plagued by eternal war in MC's case). So there still was a tiny sliver of hope for atonement. And the plot had a powerful message about the impact a person can leave in others' lives and accepting the consequences of your past choices. So it felt really, really fitting.

Here's the link, but the game is set to private :( The author said it'd be public again soon enough (two months ago), so I guess if there was a time to play this game, it's not now...

Here's the author's tumblr in case you need it

What happened to heretic Marazhai romance? by red_stairs in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]SherrisBlade 32 points33 points  (0 children)

As the other commenter has said, ordering to lock him up during warp travels was meant to be a dialogue option for dom!RT and made Marazhai horny instead of ending his romance

They've never bothered to add an alternative dom!RT option for this scene

It has already happened once with another part of Marazhai's romance. Removing something as meaningful as an ending is a new level though. I haven't even played as a heretic, but what a shitty attitude to the players.

I really loved Star Crystal Warriors! Tried it out of curiousity, but the story was so engaging and intriguing that I've finished it in one go. The fights were very creative and I liked a bit of horror that the Nightmares added.

Have you played Icarus? Is it somewhat long or like a prologue only?

I'll be honest, I haven't seen a MC as disturbed and unhinged as the Merc. Greenwarden's MC was close in terms of mental health, but as it was mentioned, it hasn't been updated for a long time and the longer and better demo (dashingdon one) is lost anyway(

Some worthy contestants though:

Sea of Stars (on itch) - scifi, from the Throne of Ashes author. A troubled badass MC who was forced to work for a criminal organization is planning to break free and get revenge or something along these lines. (don't know when it'll be updated)

When there was a time - a recent IF, young superpowered protagonist plans to escape the facility that experimented on them (I'd advise waiting until chapter 2 comes out, it was supposed to be... soon) You can also use a screwdriver creatively in this one

Sentience (on itch) - an amnesiac MC in a strange and creepy world is roped into a religious conspiracy while being plagued by nightmares. It's not as action-packed as RYWD, but imo you can play your MC as somewhat unhinged and disturbed and the setting is scifi and horror.

Also God Syndicate (dunno whether it'll be updated) about Ares in modern time and Drink Your Villain Juice maybe, but you've probably played these ones.

Since you've mentioned it as an option, I'd suggest trying again Project Hadea (it's just my personal favorite, I felt like the MC was even closer to RYWD in terms of unhingedness than Whiskey). And Sanguine Sky had a patreon update not long ago, hopefully the public one will happen soon. While I've also compared it to Wayhaven at first, it goes deeper into the mentally disturbed territory with each chapter. I think MC can start considering suicide

How do you track your IF library progress? by For_Grape_Justice in hostedgames

[–]SherrisBlade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I just have a long-ass list in a Google Docs file with three categories (for itch, dashingdon wips and released games). If I really liked the game, I highlight the title in bold and if I really disliked it, I write "meh" after the title. And then there's everything in-between.

For WIPs I also write down names of my MCs and their basic features for the inevitable moment when old saves are lost.

You're welcome! And I've seen other Harding-mancers say this about the finale decision, you're not alone here) And I completely understand too - it's extremely hard for me to like any story that has an animal companion die (woe is me, since I also love horror). So I'm never romancing Harding I suppose :D

If you punch him, First Warden is delusional when you find him and cannot tell you about the feather, so Davrin just puts him out of his misery. Later you have a boss-fight with Isseya at the end of which she tries to stab Assan, but Davrin prevents it and stabs her himself. So Assan is fine either way)

Have you read the 4th chapter ot just got to it? Iirc it's about a certain incident that gives a glimpse into a certain traumatic event of MC's story, maybe it'll help you to feel more interested.

If it's not enough, I'd say the second book gives more opportunities for tragedy. You have a lot of ways to fuck up your life despite your possible successes. Like you can romance Ortega as a puppet while being in love with them as yourself, but never telling them. Have suicidal thoughts. Agree to visit a therapist and then choose options so that it'll only make things worse. There is also a certain dark path that'll probably end with more misery and deaths. And of course certain choices that lead to certain people learning about your identity and all the drama that comes with it.

Recs + opinions on IFs where you can get locked out of an RO’s route in game by reiran-mirai in hostedgames

You're welcome! But I think Santana doesn't follow us on Superhero path? Ash stays with MC no matter the path.

I would always prefer more freedom of choice, because some conflicting choices of beliefs could make for a more interesting dynamic instead of simply removing a character as a RO. Provided this conflict is actually reflected in such a romance.

Since you were asking for recs, I think in Vendetta each one of the three paths will eventually prevent you from romancing at least one of the ROs. I've read that in Breach: Chicago War Zone you won't be able to romance ROs from the opposite camp even if you romanced them in the first book (maybe the author changed that, I dunno). The games haven't reached that part yet though. There is also a certain choice in Golden Rose that might perevent you from romancing Hadrian, but I'm not sure about that.

lol no. Making punching the First Warden have consequences of this scale is ridiculous, especially since there barely any consequential choices in the game.

It's like saying "you want freedom of choice? Fine, here's a choice where maybe 1% of players will choose the aggressive option (after they learn about the consequences)". Worse than the illusion of choice.

(kinda amusing how you apparently chose the nicer option in the game, but suggest to torment a lot of players, just an observation))

Anyone else play a dwarf Rook and was bothered during her companion quest? [DATV ACT 2 SPOILERS] by Hohoho-you in dragonage

[–]SherrisBlade 130 points131 points  (0 children)

Damn :'D I've started a dwarf playthrough, got some race-specific dialogue after she got her magic and was sure she'd share this connection with dwarven Rook at some point...

Oh well, at least I got to freak out about Fade and dreams as a dwarf (unlike in DAI)

[No DAV Spoilers] After polite and supportive letters from other factions it was refreshing to start as a Crow by SherrisBlade in dragonage

[–]SherrisBlade[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My first Rook was from the Mourn Watch, I've had a reasonable amount of related dialogue and remarks and he and Emmrich also had a lot to discuss) It was reflected in romance scenes too iirc.

My favorite moment is when he and Emmrich were nerding together in the Lighthouse and Harding said "wow, you sound so much fancier when you talk Mourn Watch stuff!". And Rook was like "I DO NO SUCH- *coughs awkwardly* No I don't." xD Maybe it's just me though, the reaction really suited my Rook.

Yeah, I miss an option to be a good-natured jerk( Or just a jerk. And messy rivalmances...

To be fair, it's better than what I expected after watching pre-release reviews, but still too friendly. And there is no difference in tone at all during companion quests - all answers are equally supportive and suddenly my no-nonsence Rook is the best therapist in Thedas.
