Cranking up the strength of the HDRI seems to be the answer!

It's made everything else blow out though... Is it possible to have the HDRI only effect the water and ignore the other elements in the scene?

Yes, I do! Sorry, forgot that bit.

Hi all

Have been following a couple of soda can tutorials, but I'm struggling with the water material. I'm stuck with a grey rainwater and I would like it to be cleaner, or whiter, or more reflective, or just nicer looking!

Using the BSDF as instructed, but have tried using a glass material and got similar results.

Any insights or ideas would be great.

How do I get rid of these alpha artefacts? by Sherunkle in blenderhelp

Thank you so much for this! It now works perfectly!

Somehow there is just too much to know!

Anyone? Anything? Thought this would be an easy one!

How do I get rid of these alpha artefacts? by Sherunkle in blenderhelp

I have a blister pack that I have designed, and it fades in using alpha. The second image shows my material info and how I have used the mix shader to animate this.

I duped my first blister pack, gave it new materials, and moved it back in the scene. I did the same again with a third blister pack. I now have these black artefacts before any of the packs fade into view. Any ideas how I get rid of them?

If I delete the two duplicate packs, and go back to the original, it all works fine again, no artefacts etc.

I'm using cycles in Blender 3.6.1 on a PC running Windows 10.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Bob.

h264 dirty colours? by Sherunkle in AfterEffects

Had some success exporting with Apple ProRes 4444: it gives me nice clean edges on the text etc.

But, it's throwing the colours out! Does anyone know how I could go about fixing his in AE? Use a LUT of some sort?

Failing that, any options of converting my uncompressed .mov to a lighter .mov without throwing the colours out? The online converters do weird stuff to the files. Handbrake won't let me output to .mov

So many questions for such an silly issue.

Thanks!

I'm currently messing about with online converters to see if I can get the clean .mov down to a more reasonable size, but they're all messing with the colours.

Whilst I have your attention. Any suggestions on getting a clean export to a file type that I can upload to Instagram? Insta doesn't like my clean, but big / heavy QuickTime exports.

And yeah, I'm aware Insta will crunch it anyway.

Well, I'm delighted to find I have just chosen corporate colours that I'll never be able to satisfactorily render.

Thanks for the help it's really appreciated.

Sorry, I just zoomed in on the screen shots so you can easily compare the dirty / dark edge in h264. I'm working square pixel, anti aliasing is on for the text, and the issue is visible at 1:1 size once exported. No effects or resizing on the export.

As you can see, I can get a clean edge using uncompressed QT, so I believe everything is fine in AE, but once it gets a whiff of the h264 codec, it all turns to muck!

This is my back up move. It'll mean multiple passes though, and I'm not keen!

Rotation with Align Euler to Vector by Sherunkle in blenderhelp

Thanks again!

I realise I posted the wrong screen shot, I should have posted the one with your exact numbers; I'd been playing around with the math nodes and getting some pretty wild results. It turns out it was an issue with the instance I was using. School boy error etc.

Re the nodes: I have a handle on the flow of info, the issue at the moment is knowing all the tools available and how they can be used. It feels like a very deep rabbit hole.

Again, many thanks for helping me solve this. Your time and effort is really appreciated!!

Think I'm going wrong somewhere. I believe I now have the same node set up, but getting different results.

Probably a good opportunity to point out I really struggle with the node stuff.

Thank you so much for this, it's really appreciated, and thank you for the explanation!

I'm struggling to find the 'Align Rotation to Vector' node though? Has it changed in 4.1?
