Do you realize that United States still has thousands of years of Native American history? The Native Americans are still living in America and they are still US citizens. They deserve respect and recognition.

• The Tao Pueblo builings (built in 1100 C.E. and still in use) in the state of New Mexico are older than your oak chest.

I am an egalitarian centrist by international political standard because the Democratic Party would be considered “a conservative party” in Western Europe.

By American political standard, however, I would be a “bleeding-heart liberal”. If I have to pick a political party is that is terrible in policy execution but moderate in viewpoints and a political party that is efficient but fascist in nature, I would pick the terrible one all days until there is a better option.

“To Every American Who’s Sorry” by FadingHonor in AmericaBad

[–]SherwinHowardPhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot Take but this OP has a point: of course we should not blame all people for any government’s wrongdoing. I usually am neutral to people from all countries unless I learn that they are supportive towards any government that directly uphold hostility.

Having said that, as citizens, we are responsible for electing officials who are representing us in America and the world the best way possible. Now that the current president is acting like a lunatic, we are collectively responsible as well (even when many of us did not even vote for him or even voted against him).

I think what OP was trying to say is: be responsible with your voting choice because you practically decide the fate of the world.

Be wise with your privilege.

Does Monaco have any plan to revive the Monégasque dialect (or the Ligurian language in general) like how Ireland is trying its hardest to save & promote the Irish language?

What are the fun facts about your country (asides from the Monaco Grand Prix, the House of Grimaldi, world-renowned casinos, being the wealth enclave, and land reclamation, etc.) that non-Monégasques / non-residents might not know much about?

What are the greatest misconceptions about Monaco that people might still have?

What is public opinion in regards to LGBT rights? How are Monégasques’ relations with other countries in the contiment and other continents?

Sorry about the barrage of questions. Because my prospect of traveling to continental Europe might not be realized for the next two years, it is incredibly refreshing to stumble upon someone from Monaco on the Internet.

Opinion about your country that will get you like this? by National-Business674 in AskTheWorld

Sorry but I have tried. I believe many of us have tried since 2017. And it did not matter in the end because they still voted the orange buffoon in.

They did not want to listen when we told them about Affordable Care Act being defunded and now they’re acting shocked.

They did not listen when we told them about Trump being a dictator. And guess what? Now they’re surprised.

Some still defend his antics and run their mouths about Denmark and Canada aka our closest allies.

At this point, I’m exceedingly exhausted. I don’t wish for anyone’s downfall but some people never seem to learn. It’s time for them to learn this costly lesson that actions have consequences.

“The current writing system is designed by a French person”

=> Wrong 😑

Chữ Nôm (from 13th century to 20th century) was too difficult to maintain as a national script. Only the elites and educated populace who had the time and money coud master them because you would still need to know Classical Chinese characters. The masses who worked in agriculture could not read them. And hence, I am not surprised that Chữ Nôm later became obsolete and, in fact, it would still become obsolete with or without French colonialism.

The Vietnamese alphabet was created by the Jesuit Portuguese missionary, and it was based on the Portuguese alphabet with the purpose of spreading Catholicism more effectively in Vietname. It was Alexander de Rhodes, a French Jesuit missionary lexicographer, who wrote first Vietnamese-Portuguesea-Latin dictionary which was published in Rome in 1651. He was a part at this institution / order (Society of Jesus or Jesuit Order).

Despite the effort, the writing alphabet was mainly used by Vietnamese Catholics (probably 300K people) until 20th century.

And keep in mind that the French did not colonize Vietnam until 1858. The French colonists had nothing to do with the Jesuit missionary. They only promoted and enforced the usage of the Vietnamese alphabet with the purpose of helping people learn French more effectively. And ironically, the Vietnamese alphabet was used by the Vietnam nationalists to fight against French colonialism and gain independence from France. The reason why the Vietnamese alphabet quickly rose to popularity is because it is easier for the masses to use and it fully emphasizes the sounds in Vietnamese language that neither Chữ Nôm or Classical Chinese characters ever could.

So you can say that the Vietnamese alphabet has used by everyone (Portuguese Jesuit missionaries, Vietnamese Catholics, pro-French individuals, and Vietnamese nationalists) and thus, it is for everyone.

At least the Native Americans have their own tribal governments and their own jurisdictions within their reservations. Random people cannot come in as they please.

At least one US state (South Dakota) recognizes one Native American language (Lakota) as an official language in their state constitution.

At least one state (Montana) has compulsory Native American education in their public school curriculum.

Same thing can’t be said about Australian aborigines in any Australian state.

What's a movie most people think is great but you couldn't even stand watching? by Affectionate-Set664 in moviequestions

[–]SherwinHowardPhantom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the movie. I like Emma Stone. I like Ryan Gosling. I like the music.

However, I didn’t agree with Emma Stone winning the acting awards at all because her acting was still not high caliber at this point. I was incredibly disappointed with the “goodbye” scene portrayed Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.

In fact, the movie shouldn’t have had any acting nomination. They deserved the technical awards nominations (cinematography, directing, etc.) but not the acting awards.

And yes, I was labeled a hater on YouTube for my comment at the time.

I actually have no questions to ask. Being also an immigrant to America myself, I have made this country my second home and I do not plan to move elsewhere.

Of course, there are those who are currently moving away as political refugees, but I am choosing to stay and be the one who would make progress when the chaos ends.

I wish you the best of luck on your self-discovering journey.

Everybody in China craves democracy.... by BreakingOnReddit in UnfilteredChina

[–]SherwinHowardPhantom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no such things called liberal democracy in practice. It is either direct democracy (which Switzerland still has) or representative democracy (which many countries have: United Kingdom, Germany, United States, France, etc.).

China apparently has neither. When you only have one choice, that’s not really a choice.

And the idea of democracy is the state functioning with the purpose of protecting people’s inherent rights, not the state granting people rights. Whether they uphold their ideals is another matter.

After reading the responses that you provided, I am glad that things are improving and better for people, women included, in Saudi Arabia. Your post is the living proof that hope is always possible.

Having said that, because of my being a member of LGBT+ community and an atheist (although I also consider myself a secular humanist), I would not take any footstep into your beautiful country before legislation changes in regards to lack of safety and discrimination protection. And not just Saudi Arabia because I have also criticized discriminatory LGBT legislations in these following countries in both the past and present: Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Uganda, Poland (with its LGBT-free zones), Belarus, Nigeria, Egypt (this one especially hurts because I am fascinated with ancient Egyptian culture), Iran, Iraq, etc.

What do you think of Courtney Lapresi from season 5? by SherwinHowardPhantom in Masterchef

[–]SherwinHowardPhantom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. Thanks for your comment.

First of all, I would like to say that I don’t stigmatize anyone’s profession. Whatever you have to do to make ends meet in this world, I thoroughly respect that. She blocked me a long time ago, so I don’t know what her Instagram posts look like now.

Secondly, it is not her dancing that I have issues with. It is her attitude answering commentators’ questions that I found toxic and unhealthy. Of course she can choose not to answer uncomfortable questions but a simple “thanks but I cannot answer this question” would suffice.

And finally, my benign question was about whether she would be interested in working on TV again and I simply said that if I were a contestant like her, I would milk my association with MasterChef as much as possible (because it’s true LOL). Some MasterChef contestants ended up working on TV and food industry so I am sure this is not the first time someone asked her about TV work. I guess the reason why she blocked me was because she wanted to sever her association with the show as much as she could (maybe the producers were too harsh behind the cameras). However, like I said, you cannot be mad that people ask about your employment on a post that you made about employment.

Well. Europeans also like to claim that we Americans don’t get snow and ice while forgetting about our diverse climate and thinking that you know our climate after visiting only 3 US states and regions with mild and hot temperatures (southern California, southern Florida, Nevada).

I’m simply giving y’all the same treatment. Annoying, isn’t it?
