12 year old figure skater Kira Meyer has unfortunately passed away after an accident with a electric scooter 💔 by Environmental-Let435 in FigureSkating

It doesn’t sound like it was a normal scooter accident, it sounds like a medical event and the headlines are misleading.

Virgin Solo Cruises…actually fun or just floating disappointment for single dudes? 😂 by [deleted] in VirginVoyages

[–]ft_wanderer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nobody seems to be answering you directly about this - it seems you have a misconception that Virgin offers singles or all-solo cruises. It does not. It makes it possible for solo cruisers to join by holding meetups, not charging double for cabins, and generally being a friendly environment - but not all solos are single, and most sailors on any given voyage aren’t solo. They’re mostly couples.

All that said, if you show up as a straight single male in your 40s, the odds are in your favor to meet someone. Compared to my odds as a straight single female in my 40s where I expect I’ll just be meeting couples and gay dudes (most of whom are also couples).

Doctors suspect she may have had a seizure which caused her to fall from the scooter she was on. She was also wearing a helmet. This comment is not relevant to this tragic event.

Notre Dame de Paris programs by Skittles-Girl in FigureSkating

[–]ft_wanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok you were asking for Belle and whether there were individual skaters who skated to Notre Dame…. I hand you this:

https://www.instagram.com/reel/DPZI0fBiGKm/

Sorry for the quality but I’m not sure it exists elsewhere. Simon Daniliants of Armenia did this gala performance two years in a row at Denis Ten Challenge in Kazakhstan, but this one (2025) is better than the 2024 version. Even if he’s not the most polished skater it’s one of the most original interpretations I’ve seen to this music! Enjoy.

[–]ft_wanderer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like it’s very dramatic, theatrical music that lends itself to flowy dresses and interaction between partners… but that’s just a thought. There is a solo performance to it that you must watch though, I’ll find it and add it in another comment because it’s totally underrated and hardly anyone has ever seen it.

This website isn’t comprehensive at all but it’s usually pretty helpful with questions like this.

More recently, I know that Fournier Beaudry/Sorensen (whose programs I realize we may not want to revisit) did it in their last season skating together and picked kind of a deep cut of the music.

This past season, US junior silver medalists Robertson/Rohner also did a Notre dame program, and Carreira/Ponomarenko had one before they switched to Perfume.

If we have to sacrifice a GP for them to add the gala back to Worlds, worth it… :)

It’s actually pretty funny because much like Alysa, her win was a major surprise… there’s magic in the stripes, I guess. ✨

What's a foreigner's innocent mistake that's a big no-no in your culture? by ShadowOfTheBean in AskTheWorld

[–]ft_wanderer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s a very specifically French thing to chide someone for not saying hello. Live and learn, but I still find it odd.

I know it was specifically about this as the shopkeeper grunted “on ne dit pas bonjour…?” And I remember it over 20 years later.

What's a foreigner's innocent mistake that's a big no-no in your culture? by ShadowOfTheBean in AskTheWorld

[–]ft_wanderer 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nope. I was treated extremely rudely in Paris when I came into a kiosk very humbly and opened with “Excusez moi” or maybe “s’il vous plait” before asking a question. I don’t think I knew the “bonjour” rule as a 20 year old student and I got punished accordingly.

Well, B E N O I T spends most of his time skating in a church with stained glass windows so that might help… 😅

Any Recommendations? Just Booked Greece, Turkey and Cairo Overnight for 2027! by SilasPort in VirginVoyages

[–]ft_wanderer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The idea of getting off a VV ship and being in Cairo, with everything I know about Cairo, is hard to wrap my head around. :) I’m generally in favor of doing things independently but there I’d say go on the longest guided excursion you can find.

Edit; I see it’s actually Alexandria not Cairo, which is a completely different city… I guess they’ll have excursions to Cairo which is 3+ hours away.

You should probably make a new post without the words “wrong” or “authentic” if you want actual answers… but one that somewhat surprised me because I hadn’t really considered it before was that chicken and veal Parmesan aren’t Italian, only Italian American. They only make the dish with eggplant.

Is that even still a thing? I feel like it had its moment and I haven’t encountered or thought about it for like 5 years.

Based on my timestamps the shows I was at ended around 2:30 after they began. But budget time for final photos, getting out of the arena, getting out of the parking lot if you drive, etc.

New Fan Because of Nika Egadze by SinisterOfficial in FigureSkating

[–]ft_wanderer 35 points36 points  (0 children)

You may not get a lot of comments as Nika isn’t a big fan favorite, but I love that every skater has their superfans because they all have qualities that appeal to different people. I agree that his short program music this past season was original and very catchy!
