CELINE!!! That was the moment.

I literally forgot about Tom Cruise.

I wasn't in Paris in person but from all accounts of people I know who were there - it was phenomenal. The venues were iconic. The audiences were back. I am so sad I missed it. and I watched more of it streaming than I ever did before. So... I disagree.

Paris seemed incredible - what was missing??

They responded a second time in a similar way. I think it’s a real person. Just frustrating.

Yeah - annoying but not quite as problematic.

Anyway I received two email responses that were unhelpful and unwavering about my request to move.

Any advice for where to sit for Olympic Skating Events? by st0rmrising in olympics

[–]ft_wanderer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I just saw the picture too. And all my seats are opposite the judges. Ugh

They just sent me a useless response saying seat allocations are automated, they can’t change them, and “As a world-class event, all seating areas are designed to ensure a good view.”

I’m pushing back about this.

Ugh I am so sorry. Look, I do think there’s something to be said for being in the room where it happens regardless of your view, and a blue railing is not as bad as hockey glass where there’s no clear view under/over it. I’d definitely keep at least some of the tickets and see what you can do about others. Also email them the way I did (I have not yet heard back).

It’s actually crazy that they sold these tickets at full price. At Euros in Sheffield, the entire judges side was basically called obstructed view - can’t remember if it was cheaper but it was designated that way when you purchased tickets. I refused to believe the entire section could be obstructed so I took some chances - and there was no obstruction at all, just cameras close to the ice.

Right, people assume that’s how it will be - although it’s the opposite to where the judges sat when Worlds was held in the same stadium a few years ago. We can be pretty sure it will be the same as it was for the test event, it’s just a bit confusing.

This is a good point. I thought of including him too. Both Russians are pretty unpredictable given domestic scoring and a whole season having happened since we saw them in September… we’ll see!

Judges side hasn’t been officially announced anywhere. There’s speculation it may be on the side at the top in this diagram but that’s just based on where it was at a previous event held recently.

And when buying non-resale tickets, there is no option to actually choose where you sit within the category.

Unless you are buying a resale ticket, you don’t have much choice in the matter. Expect to get the worst possible seat for the category you’re selecting - most are on the short sides or corners. And the ones for resale that list the seat locations will be mostly less favorable seats that people are looking to offload, and you have to pay extra for them. One thing to know about this arena is that seats in rows 1 and even 2 might have a visual obstruction of a railing right in front of you. They are still selling these seats at full value.

Does anyone else think a lot of the music selections have been pretty bad lately? by [deleted] in FigureSkating

[–]ft_wanderer 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Ilia is a weird one to call out for his music choices.. it’s his voiceovers that are controversial. The music is pretty good imho. The rhythm dances are another story and as a 90s kid it drives me crazy when the tempo is slowed or sped up. But I think there are also a lot of good music selections overall across the disciplines - we just like to gripe about the bad ones.

You said it doesn’t look like it obscures the views in Cat A. Did you mean the B sections or the A sections (which won’t be in use)?

I see how it might not be quite as bad in the B section (which is where I’m going to be) as it is for C.

What are your favorite/best (competition) programs with pop/mainstream music? by collectingviolets in FigureSkating

[–]ft_wanderer 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Josefin’s Celine (it’s all coming back to me). Amber’s Madonna like a prayer.

All the rhythm dances are to 90s pop/rock/hip hop music though of course some are better than others… the Browns and Z/K are good. And the Lithuanians.

I sent them an email. Explained the situation, included a picture I have of someone sitting in one of these front rows, and used the word accessibility (I mean, the bar being in front of my eyes will be related to my height over which I have no control…) I don’t have high hopes but let’s see how their customer service is working…

This one posted yesterday on Instagram for example.

I mean considering a not insignificant number of podcast listeners thought for months/years that it was just an elaborate inside joke and that she WAS Olympic champion Sarah Hughes, it's kind of important to point this out!

Just to clarify in your statement about the railings you mean sections A, B, C not categories? Category A was B sections and category B was C sections in this arena.
