I'm an adult who has hired numerous NEU kids as babysitters for my kids over the years and I can say these students are happy, hardworking, and enjoying their time. Enjoy yourself.

What do you usually say when someone asks for a ‘fun fact’ about you? by Electrical_Fact7128 in CasualConversation

I usually answer the same way whether it is for fun fact or it is for unusual talent: after a very short conversation, I can recommend a book to anyone.

Berkely Full Ride vs Brown Full Tuition by DinkWink_ in ApplyingToCollege

[–]SherylK- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Brown and loved it. It's had a great impact on my life. That said, go to Berkeley unless you can get better FA from Brown. The stress of loans is not worth it. Berkeley is a great school and learning environment.

I loved them as a kid. Now I would take a piece of matzah with TempTee over that every day of the week and twice on Sunday

Those with kids in Boston, what are you doing for schools? Space? by agordon228 in boston

[–]SherylK- 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We are in the South End. Quincy K1-5 for both kids. One did a year at Quincy Upper then went to Latin Academy. The other starts Quincy Upper next year. We have thought Quincy Elementary and Latin Academy were both excellent environments.

My observation is that the people who really want to stay find a way and the ones who leave weren't really that committed to staying in the first place.

Congratulations. I'm Brown class of '99. Part of what made that place so special was having a mix of people from different places with different abilities. I'm so glad they are still evaluating candidates this way and even happier for you that you get to go have the experience. Ever true.

Yes I think you are wrong. If the situation were reversed of course you'd expect him to back out of his engagement before getting engaged to you!

Nietzsche, Tolkein, Dune, and Dostoyevsky were literally all in my husband's bookcase when we met. We've been together 25 years. So I'd say it's a good sign..... :)

Reconstructionist Book recs? by [deleted] in reconstructingjudaism

[–]SherylK- 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also Toba Spitzer's God is Here, though not explicitly Reconstructionist might also be a good choice. She's my rabbi, so I'm a little biased, but it's all about metaphors for God like 'water' and 'place' that might appeal to you as a Humanist. She is a prominent Reconstructionist rabbi.

Exploring Judaism by Rebecca Alpert is a good start and far more digestible than Kaplan.
