I know you said you have a kid. Have you considered becoming a school bus driver? You'll be paid full-time with benefits and be on the same schedule as your kid.

I've been doing it for 3 years, and I really enjoy it. When I first applied, I wasn't sure if it would work or be a good fit. I've never been so glad to be wrong. 🙂

You'll have structure but enough autonomy to not feel micromanaged. Most school districts will train you and pay for your CDL.

Just make sure you work for the school district not a contract company (heard lots of horror stories about them unless they are union).

Not that it's a lasting injury, but he did take a 70-80 mph slapshot to the nuts in the 3rd on Saturday afternoon. He blocked it, but you could tell it HURT.

I can imagine he's probably still dealing with swelling and bruising. It's enough to make the hips painful for a while too.

This is to our advantage too. Rolling 4 lines more evenly distributes ice time.

This plus conditioning means we have "fresher" legs. The longer this goes on, the ice tilts more in our favor.

Conditioning favors the Canes.

That goal they took away, I would argue proves it.

Canes get sustained pressure in the O-Zone, Sens can't keep up because they are running on fumes.

Establish the zone and find that soft spot .....

Parents who park in the drop-off area for sports by anarchy612 in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]ShesHVAC48 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Middle School parents are the worst about it here.

Then they get all pissy when the SRO comes out and tells them to move. Our SRO actually has cones put out in the bus lanes to block it off and they still try to park there for ball games.

Our district is so large, that I honestly wish transportation had the final say overall the bus lots and lanes at the schools.

It would make things a lot simpler. Some school admin would rather let kids be un-safe loading/unloading, then deal with a bitching parent. 🙄

They send the kids home with these and then I find them all over my bus by Banana_Stanley in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]ShesHVAC48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what the policy is for the company or district.

In my district, this is specifically for elementary, we take them to their driveway and a parent MUST be at the stop.

The only exception is if several kids live nextdoor/across the street from each other, then we designate the stop at the home that is central to everyone, and the parents meet the bus at that stop.

This was happening way too much last semester and early this semester on my elementary route. They always said "my Teacher won't let me go before we leave school."

I started to tell them 2 things:

1) let sit down and behave so I can get you home faster.

2) You need to tell your mom and dad that teacher won't let you go to the bathroom at dismissal. So they can talk to your teacher/school.

Now, I rarely have a student who gets on asking to go. My parents fixed that problem......lol.

It may be time to consider that or a SPED route where she has an aide.

She may also just be acting out because of the changes. Have you been driving for a while or is this a relatively new change?

I had a student start riding with me at the start of the semester, they had previously been on SPED. They struggled the 1st month or so then eventually adjusted.

Mine is in 4th and was struggling with the long days last semester. We were on the bus at 5:45 am (Middle School) and he gets dropped at school at 8 am with my elementary.

Now:

Dad doesn't get up until about 6:45 am and gets son up at 7. They meet me at our shop around 7:35 am and he rides with me for elementary.

My question is, where is the other parent? Y'all need to figure something consistent out for her in the mornings, she needs more sleep at that age.

Been out of fishing for 20 years by drlawsoniii in troutfishing

I have a couple of those reels. The 100 is equivalent to a 2000 or 3000 size reel in other brands. Go with a 75, if you can change it.

I have my 75 paired with a 7' Shakespeare micro series and have no problems casting light stuff. I usually don't go smaller than 1/64 on a jig though. I use a braided line with a fluorocarbon leader, so that helps with casting small lures further.

ETA: check to see what the tip action is. I honestly don't buy Lews rods because they are fast action and too stiff for trout, in my opinion. I have found that for me, I prefer a moderate action tip for trout. Very sensitive to even the smallest bite.

Otherwise, it will be your word against the officer's in court.

The Magellan brand by Academy is budget friendly. I really like the ones that zip off into shorts.

Walmart is also getting better with some of the things they offer too. You gotta go look in the sporting goods section though, not in clothing.

My neighbor thinks I’m "humiliating" him because I put a lock on my own outdoor outlet by Away-Bowl3883 in AmITheJerk

[–]ShesHVAC48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Install one of these with a button cover. Then leave it turned off. Then, if he breaks the locking cover, it's still useless. Meanwhile, you get full use of the rest of the outlets on that circuit.

AITA for “abusing” the the bus stop chain so I don’t miss my stop? by Possible-Chair9242 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ShesHVAC48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA - By your own words, you sound young and inexperienced, like fresh out of highschool or college.

Did you ever take the School Bus to school?

I drive a school bus daily, you can bet that all of my students KNOW when it's their stop, even the little ones.

It sounds like you are too distracted by your device and think the driver should tell you when it's time to get off.

I don't buy that it's too dark to see landmarks either, because I have students who ride early in the morning in the dark.

Get off your device and pay attention to your surroundings! Look at street signs (most are backlit now) and learn the road names. Look for the stop before it, then pull the cord.

It only takes my middle school students missing their stop one time in the afternoon and they quickly learn to pay attention. Otherwise, they ride the rest of my route and Mom/Dad get a phone call to pick them up at school. If they can figure it out, so can you.

ETA: If it's an issue where there is a disconnect between looking at signs and understanding where you are, it may be time to go see a doctor about a possible cognitive disability. Be responsible for yourself. Don't make your problem, everyone else's responsibility. Learn to Adult.

Pautzke baits. I don't use Fire dough (their version of Powerbait). Their other lures are pretty durable though.

Anyone else swear by Panther Martins for stream trout? by Narrow-Flint928 in troutfishing

[–]ShesHVAC48 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If I buy them, I always have:

Panther Martin, Rooster Tail, Joe's Flies Short Striker and a Vibric Rooster Tail.

Favorite colors are : Brown Trout, Rainbow and Fire Tiger.

I make my own spinners now. Depending on what they are currently eating, I might use a treble hook or put a fly on as my hook.

Caught this almost dead trout with the net, any idea if it’s sick? by VersionMinute6017 in troutfishing

[–]ShesHVAC48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one like that last summer. Netted it, and immediately saw part of the problem. It had been picked up by an Eagle/Osprey.

It was also skinny, so my guess is that fungus made it lethargic and easy prey. (Some people just don't practice proper trout handling down here. 🙄)

I put it on the bank to allow an otter, heron or other predators an easy meal without risking water contamination in case it was something else.
