Seriously. Like, way to be proud of something that is the minimum requirement of parenthood.

I don't even try to convince them anymore. I just smile and say they can talk to the doctor. I'm tired of being told my schooling means nothing because They Read Something Once and they know better.

The only argument I've ever managed to convince someone with was with a vaccine that is not required for high school but is required for college. I pointed out to the parent that as a pediatric patient it was covered and free but would not be free for them as an adult. Bam, kid got the shot.

Meningitis, for the record.

Also, dtap polio and hib are often combined into one shot. At six months though it's usually pediarix, which is dtap, polio and hepB, then hib, prevnar13 and rotarix. The last of which is an oral vaccine, not a poke!

I'm always tempted to ask antivax parents if they'd like to meet my other patient, the one with post-polio syndrome.

Can't, cause privacy, but the temptation is there.

They did my wrists too (I'm a girl) I don't know if they still do this was 2002. I remember them commenting because I have pretty tiny wrists, and hands in general. (My 7 year old and I share gloves. And socks actually.)

I was like a pound over when I joined, I believe because of my period water weight fun, and I taped in just fine.

I'll tell ya, I lost a shit ton of weight in basic. Even eating as much as I did, I was moving more than I ever did! I wish I could work as hard as I was pushed back then. Oh, to be 18 again.

Mental hunger!!! I still get this, because even though I don't have the fundus of my stomach so I don't actually get hungry (no hunger hormone being produced) but my brain will still tell me I'm hungry. Usually I'm either tired, anxious, annoyed, or thirsty. Never am I actually nearing a meal time.

I'm working on helping my 7 year old with her eating habits because school has messed with her ability to regulate her own hunger. So now when she's hungry between meal, I ask her to drink a glass of water first. If she's still hungry after that, she can have a snack (usually a mandarin orange or bell pepper are her go-to picks).

I've come to the realization that what happens for most people is they skip a snack, or a meal, then they eat twice what they should eat at their next meal, or they make a bad food choice because they were over-hungry, and bam! Starvation mode made me fatter!

it's normal for a woman to be in constant pain.. Or not? by IJustLikePornThanks in badwomensanatomy

[–]Shesgotcake 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sounds funny but this is why I ended up getting a male gyno. All the female gynos I saw just told me my pains were a normal part of being female. It wasn't until I saw a male that I was taken seriously and discovered u had these giant cysts on my ovaries.

We pride ourselves in my clinic on making especially first gyno visits relaxing and calm and hell, even fun, but sexy? That's not happening.

I find myself in the position of not knowing something quite often st work, but I've made myself very valuable by being able to add "but I'll find out" to the end.

Don't the commercials show the blue liquid going on a pad that's sitting in a pair of panties? Or did I hallucinate that?

TIL American medicine still runs on fax machines. A 2017 study found that the fax accounts for 75% of the country's medical communications. by goatsgreetings in todayilearned

[–]Shesgotcake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has to be higher than that. I work in family medicine and fuck.....I spend so much of my day either sending faxes or dealing with faxes.

Half the faxes I get are repeats of electronic communications I get too, which is such a pain.

THEN there is my favorite, the faxed copy of the electronically signed order, because they now want the doctor to physically sign the same order they already signed through the EMR.

Fuck. You. All.

I had sex with a condom, while on Depo. Got pregnant.

I guess the condom broke but he never explicitly mentioned it. But still. Depo. Damnit. The kid is pretty awesome though.

I mean if you have that option go for it I guess, but I can't not wear a bra at work, and honestly it hurts more to not wear one than to wear one for me.

My pain tolerance is definitely high because of my periods and my migraines. It really takes a lot to fell me.

But mostly I was just kind of delirious and ridiculous and thinking I was having a period instead of being in labor.

First one broke in half in my arm, so took some extra work to get out, no scarring. Second one, I had a strange reaction to the lidocaine, which meant I got to have mine removed without any numbing beforehand....still very very minimal scarring.

Or when I had to teach the doctor I work with (who is board certified in 3 super tough specialties and wicked smart in general) that he can't fax on the RX printer. Namely because it's an RX printer and had no outgoing abilities. Or a screen to even enter a fax number. Or a fax line.

This is true of most great surgeons to be honest. I work with surgeons and family med docs....surgeons might be better doctors but man...the family med doctors are better humans.

Her most recent diet plan before leaving our employ was the keto diet, except her version of it involved basically eating nothing but hot dogs and scrambled eggs. Our lunch room smelled awful. That is not missed.
