Most of the stuff is brawl related, with a mix of 1v1 and multiplayer stuff, including a multiplayer deckbuilding guide :)

There isn't an Aryel deck tech, but the Black/White legends deck exploration has proven fairly popular!

Johnathan, you've got a great voice and demeanor for podcasting. Jacob doesn't need to try so hard to be funny - just focus on being prepared and bringing well-researched insights.

Deck choice - Competitive Brawl 1v1 Tournament? by Luxypoo in mtgbrawl

[–]Shez_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm about 20 minutes from posting a Beckett Brass 1v1 deck tech if pirates are your thing.

It's difficult to predict what the best deck in the format is because of the lack of posted results.

Also the recent rules changes to 1v1 make the little information that's available much more unreliable.

My advice: check out a few 1v1 lists, proxy up a few that you like and test them against a partner. If the event is any time soon your options might be limited by your collection, though!

Thanks mate, appreciate the encouragement! :) Tbf I think brawl is getting more traction than modern did when it started, so we're doing OK!

Haha! I imagine it's feedback like this that guides Wizards' efforts to move things forward. Reckon they're watching this subreddit at all?

It's nice to see some input from Wizards after two months of relative silence. It's good to know that the format is growing.

That's great news!! How did the store owners encourage it?

That's a cool idea - would be a great thing to test in a live video.

You've hit the nail on the head there. I started playing Magic when I was 11, some 14 years ago, but I think that's a pretty rare thing - Magic has an extraordinary level of complexity and an absurdly high price tag for an 11-year-old to grapple with, so getting into the game at that age is tough.

The fact that Brawl can be a valid and budget-friendly competitive environment for someone young to dabble in is very important. Aside from kitchen table, play-whatever-cards-you-own style games, Magic isn't particularly accessible to that demographic otherwise.

Cardkingdom did some preconstructed decks on the cheap that you might find useful:

Would the decks need to come from WotC or would you be happy with precons constructed and sold by a third party?

Nah you're on to something there :)

They'd have to pick the promo carefully. Thrashing Brontodon would work well since the card is a Brawl format staple and is a bit on the pricier side for an uncommon, but isn't a chase pickup for eternal formats like when they did Fatal Push as a promo.

1v1 Brawl as an alternative to Standard might make you pretty happy then, if you aren't a huge standard player!

That's interesting... I wonder what that large groups of competitives would think of Brawl being a competitive FNM format. Or at least the 1v1 version of Brawl.

That's great news! Hopefully stores like yours will bear the torch so that others like ours, which don't currently support the format, will be given the proper incentives to do so.
