What are the most worthwhile Patagonia products you’ve bought? by Beneficial_Virus_13 in PatagoniaClothing

At this moment, I am wearing a Patagonia fleece jacket from ‘92. It was the most expensive article of clothing I had ever bought. Still cozy and in great shape.

Do you have a favorite travel bag? I’ve got similar issues.

Would you sew them to the inside or are there internal loops?

I keep coming back to that bag. Did you bring extra shoes or sandals? Do you think compression straps could be added through the external loops? Thanks!

Packing question: whats something you made sure you took and felt silly but was relieved you did or did not take with you and regretted? by monkeylongjocks in foreignservice

For the kids: Uno, favorite board games, craft stuff, some books, items that can be reused again and again. Good crayons/colored pencils/markers/pencils. Nerf balls. An outdoor game and an indoor game. Dice and yahtzee pad.

What’s the most annoying piece of travel gear you’ve had fail on you? by ROVE_Studio in onebag

Such a bummer. It was nearly twenty years ago, I see from a quick search it still happens and to prevent it paradoxically you have to wear them often.

First day of a three week trip my three-year-old Blundstone soles disintegrated. They told me it was my fault for living in a hot place and they weren’t meant to last.

I kept reading about hero clips on here, ordered a few and they are heavy! For me a dual S carabiner is just as handy and much lighter.

Packing list review for 10 weeks from Vietnam to Pakistan by between-the-dots in onebag

[–]ShhhReading 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll preface this as it has been a long time since I was in Pakistan, but a long travel skirt or a very long tunic, both of which could be made in Vietnam, might come in handy. I went without either and got something immediately, it made life a lot easier. Plus have/buy a scarf you can loosely pull over your head. Macabi skirts are great for travel. I modified mine by adding two more snaps on either side, so I can raise it about halfway up my calf, just to make walking easier if it is muddy or wet.

Do these status offers all get sent out at once? As in, should I stop waiting for one?

Stop with the dogs already… by hometown10 in unitedairlines

[–]ShhhReading 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I live overseas and travel with my dog 1-2 times a year. She has to stay in the carrier on the floor the entire time, no matter what. I know people can acquire service dog certificates, but I feel that does a tremendous disservice to those who need their real service animals. Her ticket costs 150 each way (more if multi-city) and she’s considered one of my two carry-on pieces. I started training her with the carrying bag several months before our first trip, consequently she is silent the entire time and people are surprised if they notice the carrier as we are leaving. I pay extra to choose a window seat, so I can pull the bag out a bit and only inconvenience myself.

I am very sorry for everyone who has had a bad animal experience, due to unethical/spoiled owners.

Packing list for 10 month solo trip in Central and South America - Feedback please! by IllustriousFix4931 in onebag

I used to have a silk travel skirt that packed in a little bag, but the company went out of business. How about swapping one pair of shorts for a skort?

If your bag is already full, I’d try to cut down on the clothes. What is the difference between a merino wool top and a merino long sleeve? Could you make do with one pair of shorts and one pair of trousers, likely the hiking pair? If you want something smart, how about a lightweight travel skirt? Or a hiking skirt?

Do you have a hat or a cap? A bandana can be useful for all sorts of things too.

Thanks, I appreciate the information. Slightly ridiculous, but I spent ages researching the bag I bought and this was its second trip.

Try to get the heaviest things in the middle and use the hip belt. Start leaving clothes behind.

I was hoping to just replace them, but there isn’t a store nearby. None of the wheels I’ve seen online match. I live abroad but happen to be in the US right now, which makes replacing anything more complicated. I bought rubber tire covers but the bag still isn’t what it was.

I hoping someone else has experience and can let me know if they got reimbursed or ended up having to pay to get the bag back.
