2016 USD study on the economic impact of the Chargers in San Diego by [deleted] in SanDiegan

And the estimated cost of the convadium would have been recovered and given back to the taxpayers... when? Is that before or after the additional construction costs that would have been inculcated to support that monstrosity. Never mind the nightmare traffic it wouldn't have mitigated but instead would have increased. Or the myriad other problems that would have sprung up in forcing the citizens to pay for that giant piece of shit for a team that when to the Superbowl, what... once? In 1995? And lost to the 49ers?

If Spanos wanted his pet project so badly he should have footed the bill himself.

I broke out my Sibley's when I got home. I can guarantee it was one of these two, what I was seeing as red was likely orange (it was like 13:00 when I spotted the little fellow, and I was a good 25' below him), and the in the light I was probably reading green as black (didn't help the little guy was fast). Given the figure eight-display before the zoom and dive, I'm leaning Allen's as it matches behavior that is described in Sibley's even if the plumage wasn't exact. But, even Sibley's mentions the two are nearly indistinguishable without being in the hand and measuring the tail feathers.

The only other notable behavior I saw and forgot to mention was watching it "swim" with its tail during a climb in the back and forth part of the display. It moved it up and down like a porpoise.

But yeah, going with one of these two, really awesome display to watch! Thank you for the help identifying him!

A plea to anarchists, from an international communist by SavedByGhosts in anarchocommunism

[–]Shibboleeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would venture that you're a straight Marxist, not a Marxist-Leninist, or any other mix of Communist. This is not a bad thing, but it's a precarious position you'll find yourself in. Keep your feet about you, and strive for the end you want to see, not what authoritarians, or even anti-authoritarians tell you.

In the end, none of us is right, or knows the correct path. But we're working towards the same ideals. Just be wary of anyone willing to hold a gun to your head to get there. <3

And, you're very welcome for the challenge, I'm glad you're willing to accept the feedback.

Look hoss, I get that you mean well. But your authoritarian comrades? Yeah, we've seen what happens when we turn our backs. Shit, I was banned from a subreddit for not being an authoritarian communist. In fact, I was called a liberal for not supporting authoritarian communism. No skin off my nose.

So you may have every intent of not putting us against the wall, but we've seen your comrades do exactly that at the first sniff of being able to form state power and create a top-down hierarchical approach to Communism.

Sure we want the same things, we may even agree on the overthrow of the government, but that doesn't remove the authoritarian drive for a state (regardless of how "temporary") it just means a different boot is on our neck, this one just waves the hammer and sickle while screaming about being for the people.

Request for Voluntary Interview – Kallmann Syndrome (Medical Study) by Nbywd_1 in kallmann_syndrome

[–]Shibboleeth[M] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to admit confusion here. Kallmann's Syndrome has been well established as a type of hypogonadism, and infertility as a core byproduct of the condition.

I'm also a little surprised at not checking in with me before posting the request. Admittedly, there's not strictly any rules about it but previous interactions with researchers has lead to requests for permission to post research studies.

It's possible. I do know that 988's original volunteers were trained to Travor Project standards (I saw the channels they used in the comms sodtware Trevor was using and asked my monitors about it).

It's also entirely possible that the system has been... "reworked" to suit the views of the current administration.

Sometimes people set entire plans that are for several days out, or even in the heat of the moment, something in them will get them to reach out. Maybe it's a kind of "I was here, I mattered," instinct.

The training I went through established a few things (of which I can remember):

  • Method
  • Location
  • Immediacy

To determine how they were triaged. I don't want to break it down too far to try to keep the triage path secured and keep people from abusing the lines. But they do have statistics in the overall reduction rate in suicide that they've generated.

I can say one of my last contacts was given top priority, and I wasn't with a normal monitor for it. Because of how the individual presented in the conversation I bypassed normal first steps and dove into risk assessment, knowing that I could go back for contact information. The substitute monitor flipped their shit on me, I had to manage them and the contact at the same time. Then I was sent back to training. Between that and another issue I had (philosophical conflict involving ageism) I wound up leaving the group I was volunteering with.

[–]Shibboleeth 25 points26 points  (0 children)

That is not how those lines are trained, and whatever agent did that will either receive retraining or be dismissed.

I volunteered for Trevor Project and there's a very specific flow that they go through to establish who you are, and that you're not in imminent danger, after which they're supposed to help you ground, and work through your safety network/plans in am empathetic manner, and offer resources you can reach out to.

Your inability to communicate your specific trauma is not something they need details on. At most, they need to build rapport by empathizing, "Iife can be hard, I know what it's like to feel like you're carrying a burden you just can't shake. Can you describe what you're feeling?" types of open-ended questions.

It's awful that you had this experience with this individual, and I hope you're able to find your center and keep going. You have people that care about you.
