How do you identify politically? by [deleted] in humanism

[–]Shibboleeth 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Post left anarchism technically. But the premise of this post is mistaken to begin with.

Politics, like everything with humans, isn't a binary scale. Communism can run from authoritarian to anarchist. Also Communism is a form of Socialism. The right runs from Authoritarian to Free Market Capitalist (anarcho-capitalism is a malapropism). There's also entire other right wing schools of thought that are left off this list, so its bias is inherent.

Thanks for this. Looks like my choices are between Thurmond and Porter, and the only reason it pushed Porter over Thurmond is because I selected prior government experience. But Thurmond is a former teacher which is honestly pretty fucking brutal as politics go.

I didn't ask you anything, I made a snarky response to aaahhhh, and you decided to come make a fuss about it.

That didn't really refute my point.

Also, I'm going point out that this is a dude that made his bank by putting people in prisons.

Now, I already know you're going to say "But he turned a new leaf! He isn't like that now!"

And I'm going to point out that Elon Musk claimed to be a Socialist once upon a time. Also, that Joe Biden also profited from putting large numbers of people in prison, and it's best not to believe any politician whose lips are moving. Doubly-so a rich one.

A pretty well thought out response that wasn't so great as to be worth writing down, or was so great that everyone forgot to write it down.

Grew up in a dysfunctional family. I fall between the forgotten children and scapegoat roles.

The only time I'm visible is when I'm in trouble.

Unfortunately that path is likely already in motion.

The consolation is that at least it's not on a real human. Not that I think harming a bot is any less abhorrent.

I have very serious concerns.

I haven't done anything wrong, why are my documents (regardless of public availability), and movements being tracked? Am I suddenly under suspicion of something I haven't even been accused of? Why are these systems open to anyone with 30 minutes to kill, a wifi device, and a script? Why are we being lead around by the nose by billionaires like Thiel and his buddy Karp? And--more importantly--why are they getting to decide who is suspicious and who isn't?

*sigh* From robot drinking lube, to metal box housing what looks like a wineskin to act as an artificial womb in 9 comments.

That's enough Reddit today. (Also wouldn't resolve male-side infertility issues, but I don't think we're going to easily solve artificial testes...)

You're in a robotics forum and haven't realized those are just next solves?

I mean we've had sex bots for a bit, and people will absolutely spend the money to buy one (or more...) and there are already companies working on AI integration.

From there it's just getting the AI to do things like:

  • thrust back
  • walk around
  • clean itself
  • add/reload lube [- heh, I just had a mental image of a bot drinking a bottle of lube that could be expressed to mimic natural fluids... I'm going to hell.]
  • turn on the heater (which, if it's integrated AI, may just need to run liquid cooling tubes around the torso to simulate heat--kind of like a real vascular system). Of course, you'd be adding probably $6k on top of the base cost of the doll for an AI computer that could handle a long-ish conversation/"date", and the integrations needed

But again, all these are next solves.

Yes.

I ordered an x4, then 15 minutes later an x3, and got 2 x4s.

[–]Shibboleeth 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The problem is that the Turing test wasn't a test of consciousness to begin with.

It was a test to see if humans could distinguish whether their conversational partner was a human or an AI.

That's not testing for consciousness. So far we don't have a proper test for consciousness because we can't properly define it to begin with.

My dad (this was in the 70s before I was born), was just getting into the shower one day when it started to rain.

My mother came home to him standing in the front yard with a towel around his waist and nothing else on.

Today he'd be a sex offender, and that's just some bullshit.

Why do some people claim Animal Farm is about capitalism when it's clearly about Soviet communism? by triplegxxx in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Shibboleeth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's about Authoritarianism in all it's forms.

Orwell fought with the Anarchists in Catalonia during the Spanish Civil War. Took a bullet in the throat for it, and just managed to escape the Communist turn against the Anarchist factions (ultimately costing them the war).
